Banks should be held accountable for these instances. They need to periodically check those machines to curve the tampering of their equipment.
not required. Transistion to chip and it will be impossible to skim as a chip card will generate a new one-time code each transacton so a skimmed code will be totally useless for the criminals.
I think EU will delete the magstripe on future cards, like starting with 2025 or 2026 when the SCA cards have been fully implemented.

Those aren't run by banks. It's by Euronet, the EU's largest scamming exchange company. I have no idea why it's still allowed to operate business as usual and not banned or something.
They don't need too in their eyes rather the theft occur and identify the issue as it's reported and settle damages that way rather than pay someone to do this as a job in the bank.
This should be done multiple times a day, if they're machine on their property is comprised it is their responsibility to ensure safe transactions.

Yea AliExpress and Alibaba sell these all day for fairly cheap. Anything more special you’ll have to buy one and modify it yourself. Being in cybersecurity myself I do cash only at gas stations and tug on everything anytime I insert my card and I’ve still had my card info stolen so it’s gonna happen but I’m not gonna just Give it away
Who uses magnetic strips these days anyhow? Everything is tap, and before that chip everywhere.

There are card readers that will make you wish your card didn't just tap and work. Pretty easy to walk by and scan your pocket while you're not paying attention. lol like who believes digital money is actually 100% safe from theft@@bayerbear6770

or use chip card/nfc. Also to prevent magstripe from being skimmed while using chip, wipe the magstripe on your bank card with a strong neodymium magnet.
ALWAYS use ATMs directly attached to a bank, not a random privately owned ATM which comes often with an extra fee on top

No idea if possible, but maybe you could carefully remove these in the future, and u could try to find incriminating fingerprints on the *BACK* of these? Because people need to be arrested for this bigtime.

You see that little grey cover beneatht the screen in the middle above the blue sign and the keypad? Thats where the camera is in that films you entering your pin to to the card...
It's only on the right machine where the card reader was.
The card reader and the camera send the info to a nearby storage device that will be retrieved by the scammers later, or to a device sending it to the net somewhere directly. That is what you have to find and follow up on...
That's also why you inform the authorities, who know what they're doing, and will do something about it, instead of taking it with you to "reverse engineer" a simple card reader..!

@@paulh2981 play the video, and pause when it shows the "this is actually a skimmer" message. Now look at the orange rectangle that says Bankomat on it. If you repeat the video and look at the other machine, there is a raised piece of grey trim that appears directly above that orange box on the atm that had the skimmer on it. I believe that is what this dude was talking about. very clever.

I'm talking about that blue and orange sticker/sign in the middle right above the keypad.
On the right machine where the skimmer was there is also a thin cover glued over the entire thing with the same sticker on it, but a little smaller to leave room for that additional grey plastic bar along its upper side, protruding just slightly. In that little plastic bar, there is a super miniature "keyhole" camera directed downwards just to see which keys are pressed. You don't see any of the camera or hole from this angle, but I can guarantee you it's there.
When the camera is on the left machine you can see that that blue and yellow sticker goes all the way up, no little grey bar between the sticker and the border of the screen there...
Not even our hero here pulling off the skimmer noticed it...😅
You forgot the camera they use to catch your pin being entered.
Looks like a magnet strip reader. You don't need a pin with magnet strip, only chip cards.

@@H3cJP The skimmer is just a reader and a short-ranged transmitter. The "owner" of the device is nearby and probably watched as their skimmer was removed. Having the skimmer being discovered would encourage the owner to take off at that point, rather than risk discovery.
I’ve developed displays for those ATM, Gas pumps etc. the crooks are clever. They rented gas stations and turned every pump into a skimmer, they will roll in one of those portable ATM’s into mall. They’re very official looking etc. and plug it in. There is no connection to the banking system. You walk up, insert your card and it responds sorry the network is down. You think oh well and off you go meanwhile it stored the card information. At the end of the day they retrieve it and move to another location.
Don’t ever use a ATM that is in a sketchy locations. If it’s bolted down to the floor or wall then it’s probably legitimate. But be carefully of these cling on devices like the one in this video.

Nothing to "reverse-engineer". The device is just a magnetic strip reader, mini-power source and short-ranged transmitter, no memory storage capacity. The laptop or smart-phone that the device was transmitting to is most likely within eyesight of the device, and the owner was walking away at that point with the data they'd stolen already.

They should make ATMs that have reccessed slots that go behind the front plate. Also magnetic strips shouldn't be made.
That's why I do the shake and prod thing, I shake the reader really hard and prod at the pad just as hard. If any of the two move, I leave immediately.

There are new versions out there: distance scanners the size of a fingernail that scan the card. Only one needs an extra camera to register the pin. Installed in 60 seconds and invisible as it can be placed underneath nearby plastics. It’s crazy! Be safe out there.
The first ATM was a walk-up on my college campus. After I graduated I also used them. But by around 1985 I realized ATMs cause you to not budget so you just fetch and waste your money. Also you waste gas driving out of your way to go to the bank. So I quit using ATMs 40 years ago and have never missed them.

Go inside to a teller, pretty easy to do a one on one transaction, a bit old school but it works better.

Those were two different devices. The second one, the one that showed the back could not have fit over the original card reader of the atm. You never see him turn it over, there is a jump cut in the video.

That’s why I always put two Skimmers on.
The first one I put on with superglue and clean it up to look professional.
The second skimmer I put on with elmers glue.
So someone will rip that off, think they’ve got the skimmer off, but that’s when I skim them with the original one underneath 😎
There is an app (I'm not naming it on purpose) that you can buy the stolen cards for penny's on the dollar. Like an 8000 dollar limit for $800.
This is why I pull every cash machine card reader and keypad before using it

If the cops actually would do their jobs, you should call them. They can do a sting operation and wait for the person to retrieve the skimmer and then arrest or track the person to find where the main operation is.
Make that ATM part from clear plastic so customers can see double layers wires and chips.

In these days with Bank-ID it's pointless to skim card - can not use inforrmation or get money out without accepting any paymeny with Bank-ID app...
