Interesting fact, the book "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" by Stieg Larsson was named "Män som hatar kvinnor" in its original Swedish. Which translates to "Men Who Hate Women"
Seeing the book by Laura Bates of the same name instantly recalled that for me, since GWDT is one of my all time favorite fiction books. Now I'm interested in Bates' book, too 😅

Bro, I barely read and I'm trying to really get back into it, no really successfully yet--but getting back into learning Japanese is helping with it. I still got a lot of school reading trauma, thanks to ableism, to sort through, but I am hoping to get that part of my life back.

Eugh, im in an audhd burnout and i hate school. Why am i as a disabled person have to always give my 150% for it to look like im giving only 70% to everyone else? I have no idea how I’m going to survive, esp because I wanna leave my toxic household in a couple of years.

IDC if it's seen as repetitive, I'm going to keep recommending Erin Morgenstern's 2 books, Night Circus and The Starless Sea.
Night Circus is about a magician duel with the backdrop of a magical travelling circus, where they end up in love but one of them has to die for the duel to end!
The Starless Sea is a love letter to anyone who felt like they missed their door to Narnia as a kid, and there's queer romance!

    questions for the alg0rithm:
    1. what's your favourite book?
    2. do you prefer fiction or non-fiction books?
    3. what's a book with good queer/poc/disability representation?
    slay safe y'all!

1 - heavenly tyrant by xiran jay zhao !!
      2 - fiction 100%
3 - iron widow and heavenly tyrant by xiran jay zhao, less on the disability representation but im hoping we get more of that in their next two books :3

      1. AHHH I have so many favs. "Imogen, Obviously" by Becky Albertalli is one of my tops, I'm rereading it right now (it felt like a very good February/Valentine's Day read). Another one I love is "The Spirit Bares its Teeth" by Andrew Joseph White, I recommend all his books tbh but definitely read trigger warnings beforehand!!! I'm also a sucker for Casey McQuiston's books, I carry the "One Last Stop" fandom on Ao3.
      2. FICTION 100%!!! I want to get into more nonfiction but for so long I absolutely could not read nonfiction unless it's written in a literary way, like memoirs usually are.
      3. Melissa See writes WONDERFUL books with disability rep!!! "Love Letters For Joy" features both queer rep AND disability rep (the main character is asexual and has cerebral palsy). "Slay" by Brittney Morris is so cool for BIPOC rep, it's a primarily Black cast and discusses racism, safe spaces meant solely for the Black community, and some other topics!!! Definitely check out trigger warnings, though. Andrew Joseph White's books are also great again lol all three of the ones that are currently out include transmasc rep and autistic rep. I've read his first two!!! "Hell Followed With Us" features a lot of religious trauma and trans rage; the main character is a gay transman and his love interest is a gay, autistic cis man. "The Spirit Bares its Teeth" is a historical fantasy novel, you got magical realism and the supernatural and also the medical malpractice of the Victorian age. The main character is an autistic transman and his love interest is a transwoman (T4T relationships let's absolutely go!!!). It's more tame with body horror than Hell Followed (that one is HEAVY with body horror) but still has a lot of trigger warnings to be aware of. I haven't read "Compound Fractures" yet but I believe that one features an aroace transman and a QPR??? It's VEEERY high on my TBR!!! Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé also writes AMAAAZING books, "Ace of Spades" centers around institutional racism (PLEASE. READ. TRIGGER WARNINGS. I BEG OF YOU.) and "Where Sleeping Girls Lie" centers around SA (SAME FOR THIS ONE please read the trigger warnings!!! I didn't realize just how big of a plot point SA is and while it was handled well, it was still triggering).
VERY sorry for such a long comment, books are kind of a special interest of mine??? Idk if it's strong enough to be considered a special interest but they make me happier than I can put into words!!!

      1. I don't believe i have a favorite standalone book, but my favorite book series is the Animorphs series by K.A. Applegate! I think it does a phenomenal job at displaying the horrors and tragedies of war without feeling hard to relate to for younger (kids/teens/young adults) readers and does so while also being fun and interesting.
      2. I definitely prefer fiction, but i really want to start reading non-fiction once I'm done reading a. the Mistborn series for fun and b. To Kill a Mockingbird for school. I really dislike reading multiple books or book series at once, and avoid it whenever i can. I much prefer the focus i can have while reading one book or series.
      3. I admittedly haven't read many books with particularly good queer/POC/disabled rep, but A Snake Falls to Earth is an exception! It follows the story of a cottonmouth snake child that has to leave his land of spirits and join forces with a Lipan Apache girl named Nina to save his friend, who fell ill due to his species becoming endangered on Earth. It's been a while since I read it, but I found it original, fun, and immersive!

      1. Recontructing amelia by Kimberly mccreight (though it should be noted this is not light reading. It deals with topics of homophobia and suicide and shame) 2. My favorite genre is historical fiction, which really bridges the gap between fiction and non-fiction, so neither? Both? Though i do tend to read pure fiction more often than pure history. 3. The personal librarian by marie benedict victoria

      1. My fav book would have to be six of crows/crooked kingdom by Leigh Bardugo. It’s about a gang of six people who come together and do crime and they all grow as people and it’s really great. Also it’s a fantasy which I normally don’t really like but 🤷‍♀️
      2. I prefer fiction, but if I find an interesting nonfiction book I’ll read it
      3. Trying to think of some… Six of crows has a disabled character with ptsd as one of the main characters, two of the main characters are queer, 2 are poc, one is plus sized.. I love this book so much guys all the characters are so fun too. Compound fracture (disability, trans & gay main character, RIGHTEOUS MURDER) and last night at the telegraph club (poc main character who’s lesbian in like the 1900’s) were good reads too.
