ABOUT UPROXX INDIE MIXTAPE:
Indie Mixtape is the go-to for all things indie music. We serve as a funnel to make sure that only the best music -- new and old -- is delivered directly to the people who care the most.
Indie is more than a music genre. It's a sensibility. The indie fan may be overlooked in our current cultural climate, but they're alive and well -- going to see live music, visiting art galleries, and prioritizing substance over facade. This is for you. - Видеоклипы
My dad always played this when it rained. Its raining on fathers day and im still playing this for you.
And his influence and wisdom shal be with you for this entire life. It will rain every single day.
and in a most beautiful way 💫
Your old man had great taste in music.
I was 19 when this came out (87).
Now I'm a father too. The 80's wow best memories far
@@borisalanarana2590 So true. I'm in my 60s now but the 80s will always be my decade!
@@crawford1083 totally with you bro there are millions of us
There are a few bands that change your life forever, this is one of them.
Yes, absolutely!! :)
Haha....took me off the straight and narrow
+BillyPilgrim "...but your lips spoke gold..."
+BillyPilgrim Yeah its been tough getting off the gear
+BillyPilgrim This band till the day I die. So it goes.
This was my tune of choice throughout the many dark years of my life. I’m 61 now and loving life and very happy that I’m still here to listen to and enjoy it.
Glad to hear that Matt, enjoy your life, and your music!
The most underrated band of all time. This is one of the greatest love songs ever written.
There's a lot of competition for most underrated bands of all time.
Underrated ? this band is worthsiped , too much actually, is an amazing band and some albuns are among my favorite of all time, but people over react whem it is abot loving it.
I'm torn, J &M Chain or Dinosaur Jr. I'll never decide :)
yeah for sure because they fucking Sucked - ! That is a fact man No woman or man on earth gave two fucks about this shit
Certainly one of the most underrated songs of all time....wasn't it used in a French car commercial? It deserves so much more.
Classic Hit from the 80's ...in 2099 most of us will not be here,,,but the song will.
The music surely stands the test of time. What hurts is how young we all were... and now we aren't.
We were on top of the world!!! Then...
Ouch. 😂
At least we dodged the social media influence on our teenage selves. F all of that.
Lol. Speak for yourself… I’m 15 every time I hear this song🤪
We are immortal spiritual beings. We will always be young
They played this song on the radio a minute ago and what to say, it caught me again. Thought I grew to old for it but h.s. it still gets me and it most probably always will. What a gift.
Forever reminding me of my best friend who was killed at 18 in 1990. I was left with this cassette of hers. I miss her so much all these decades later.
this song will forever be one of the best from the 80's. It gives me such a warm feeling and a smile on my face....there are only a handful of people that feel the same.
I know that feeling
I'm one of them - running round with the long black coats out of the Army & Navy stores - (only place you could get them!)
sweet and sad sound!
Probably the best song ever from definitely the best band ever.
Yeah. This song takes me to San Francisco stomping around south of Market when it was rough and dirty , listening to the Quake and KALX and dancing at the Trocadero Transfer. Sorry that I missed this band at the Greek in Berkeley, backlit for the entire show. Good times.
Step back and watch the sweet thing
Breaking everything she sees
She can take my darkest feeling
Tear it up, till I'm on me knees
Plug into her electric cool
Where things bend and break and shake to the rule
Talking fast couldn't tell me something
I would shed my skin for you
Talking fast on the edge of nothing
I would break my back for you
Don't know why, don't know why
Things vaporise and rise to the sky
And we tried so hard
And we looked so good
And we lived our lives in black
But something about you felt like pain
You were my sunny day rain
You were the clouds in the sky
You were the darkest sky
But your lips spoke gold and honey
That's why I'm happy when it rains
I'm happy when it pours
Looking at me enjoying something
That feels like, feels like pain to my brain
And if I tell you something
You take me back to nothing
I'm on the edge of something
You take me back
And I'm happy when it rains
And I'm happy when it rains
And I'm happy now
Oh I'm happy when it rains
Oh I'm happy when it rains
Darklands is one of the 10 greatests 80 LP's.
Happy when it rains, too. Bring on the rain. 🌧
This is like chicken noodle soup for the soul when you've been dumped. It makes you cry, but it's a good cry. I'm happy this song is here for me when I need it.
One of the coolest voices EVER, and a great band too
I am so happy Jesus and Mary chain remained an indie band in the 80s and not in the main stream. Big thank you to Reid brothers - great music .
This is one of the most romantic songs ever made. Can’t believe I’m only just being introduced to it. Beautiful.
I cried every single time I saw them perform it live, which I’ve never done before, so it was weird, but joyful! 💜
Só que não. Têm canções bem mais lindas.
There music doesn't age. loved it then and love it more now.
The coolest band of the 80’s, I had their hair and wardrobe back then
Sorry to disagree, Echo & the bunnymen were the coolest.
They were bringing back the bad boy look of the 60s 🖤
Loved April skies for years but not properly listened to jmc until lockdown. What a band, Scotland produces the best 🏴
JAMC, Bunnymen, Smiths, Furs, Pil, Alarm, Banshees, JD, Cure, Church, Southern Death Cult, Bolshoi, Lorries, Theatre of Hate, Skeletal Family, Rose of Avalanche, Sisters, Nephilim, Mission the list is endless and the soundtrack to my life. :)
You have good taste in music!!!
Have you ever listen Nick Cave and the bad seeds, The birthday party, Television, Wire, Gang of four, The feelies, The buzzcocks?
If I may add a few missing Cocteau twins, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Bauhaus, Joy Division, Stone Roses, Ramones, Lush, Siouxie, Clan of Ximox, This Mortal coil, Sonic Youth, Front 242, Soda Stereo (I hope the last one makes more than one curious) Cheers!
Husker du also!
The Chameleons
This is a perfect pop song.
The line “Look at me enjoying something..” gets me every time, like a negative person who’s finally experiencing pure joy for the first time in their life! 🖤
This song and band will always be timeless.
is "always be timeless" redundant? Love it though!
I’ve been playing this tune for the past 35 years & I love it as much now as when I first heard it. I’m always sent into a complete happy haze by the lines: “Talking fast on the edge of nothing - I would break my back for you…..” Makes me think of all the times you just talk & talk into the night & beyond about everything & nothing with that special someone…
Best Scottish Band Ever!! Too Good To Be Best UK Band Ever!!
What a classic. I bought this 1987 / 88. 10 inch single :) It still sounds fresh, LOVE IT!!!!
I'm in love with this band.
so am i
Yes my boi!
Same, omfg. Jim Reid, marry me!
Saw them 86 in LA my first night there.Took a bus for 4 days.Best show I've ever seen.
No words to describe the way I feel when it's pumping up on the speakers. Brilliant!
As much as I love Psychocandy...Darklands is their seminal album. Class, vibe and style. Can actually hear everything sans reverb feedback dissonance. Gimme that pure Reid wall of sound...
J B totally agree
Vrdd
Well, they were never going to make another Psychocandy, but yeah, take your point
Psychocandy is 100 times better
Nah, but we all choose our choices. Just Like Honey is one of my all time fave tracks, but most of the other stuff is so washed out in distortion and feedback, it can grate. Let’s not wax romantic coz it’s their debut.
What a flood of emotions, just returned to me - Now, I'm in tear's as I write. In the 80's this was my motto, "I'm happy when it rains" and I still use it, today. This song not only reminds me of hanging out with my Goth friends, but I'm deeply reminded of my father. He use to love the rain so much, it was no surprise to watch him dancing in the rain.
I was born to be Goth and I still am... !!! Stupid people, still ask about the black clothes, but I just say "Wearing black in the rain, makes me feel the happiest". That's the advantage of getting older, is that, I can afford to buy kick-ass clothes, boots, shoes, and I have pounds of silver rings. I still even have my first pair of original Doc Martens, 28 hole, lace-ups, with exposed brass eyelets' - remember those? The kids at the university, where I teach, they take notice of me almost instantly, so, I will play some obscure Goth song, during the midterms and finals; if, they can identify the band and title, they get extra credit. I've fostered Gothliness down to new generations, so, I'm called the "Goth-father".
The Jesus and Mary Chain, were still just baby's when they made this video. I don't think they even needed to shave, yet... !!! This song is a glorious thing... !!! I love you, Dad... !!!
cut the crap
@@jankolo8278 You don't have ANY authority to comment, about my life, Jan...??? Your probably a sad little "normie" who probably lives vicariously through RUclips. This was a repugnant and simple-minded thing to do. How sad and lonely you must be to want any attention this badly.... !!!
The good thing is that other's can see what you wrote, just so you can get all the negative attention your narcissistic fat ass yearns for.
One of the best bands ever. Glad I was 17 in the 80s!!! YAH
What A Song!!!! What A Band!!!!
Amazing stuff, optimistic yet confrontational at the same time! 🖤
This song gets goose bumps. Scottish pride, Great band, forever.
This song always makes me happy🥰 rain or shine.
I have 2 albums of Jesus on cd for about 30 years. Akways when I do painting in the house I listen to them and the housework goes so nice.....
This song is just absolutely fantastic!
Loved listening to this song on the radio back then. Bought the album and still have it, still play it now and again.
I love them , they changed my world !! The 80's was the best ,if I had one wish ,I would want to go back there in time & not come back !
This song bring me back memories and puts a smile on my face. Thanks.
I think of the most amazing human being I’ve ever met in my life when I hear this song. Miss them.
Wonder if they ever saw this comment.
I loved watching this today! I used to listen to them often over many years of my younger life. For me, they will forever capture the wistful optimism of that time in my life. Thank you to the OP.
One of my favorite songs from this amazing band
Lovin that these tracks are still listened to.. Makes my sense of humanity more real!
one of the best love songs ever written
this is great sound remembering high school days.....love it
One of my favourite bands.
Von dieser Band kann man jeden titel hören, absolut spitzenband !!!!!!
Timeless song. Heard it for the first time on a TV commercial for General Motors in Brazil many years ago. Thank God for J&MC and MBV.
When i was in 7th grade in the 80s I was listening to this band. I always thought they were really underrated
underrated band of all time
One of the best songs ever, love it.
Reminiscent of a time and place that can't be replicated! If your not singing along with it.. you might be missing something? Love it!
Brilliant. I Loved Them So Much.
This song got my attention back in 1987. Great stuff even now! Stands easy out with the guitar riff and the fast paced rhythm. Brilliant! Timeless, indeed...
Hey
What a life im listening to it in 2022
I remember listening to Darklands for the first time and being disappointed that it wasn't Psychocandy II. Years later, I re-listened and found myself loving these melodies...this song, April Skies, Down on Me....all great, and all unmistakably JAMC.
they were awesome live and still make me cry !!! gawd bless you xxx
This is one of the most sane and heart warming comment ive seen in youtube comment boxes in a very long time. thanks for ending my day with a little chicken soup, greeting from the UK and goodnight.
Anyone else in quarentine? Lol, gotta find the silver lining, guess that's what brought me here :-)
Me. Every time indeed...
I love you
AlwaysSkipTheAd can never go wrong with JMC
Garbage
David Earnest garbage like trash or the band garbage? Opinions mate.
This song brings peace to me on a rainy day in some very turbulent times.
this song and dont ever change are my favorite songs!!!
今日初めて彼らの曲を知った。何で今まで知らなかったんだろう? ってぐらいすごく好きです。
いい音楽に時代なんて関係ないんだなあ
My song from the 80s ❤
something about the jesus and mary chain is so different to most band. The booming drums and fuzzy guitars make their music so amazing on the ears. Being 15 i am lucky enough to have a parent that loves them. This song is one of my favourites i hope that there will be another indie movement the scene is dead.
Good!! Its so nice to see that someone as young as ur age is so in love with this kind of music..:) keep listening the good music, kid!! :)
ed eason I wish my parents liked this. They think I'm clinically insane for it.
My fv
I was fifteen when I bought 'darklands' the album this track was taken from😁👍
If you like fuzzy guitar and booming drums you may want to check out shoegazing you may like it :)
This is a beautiful song by a beautiful band.
I can't get enough of this. This is great stuff
beautiful song.
simply good to the core
Still so fresh and relevant to me
What I always liked about these guys is the way they incorporated stuff from what they did before. All those shots on the monitors in this video were from their first record.
LOVE THIS SONG!
I’m a bad dad. I hooked up an antique iPod to my TV’s sound bar and tested it with this unquestionably fabulous song, when out of my 11-year-old son’s room came a request to turn it down. Where did I go wrong!?
How can someone not like this song
your not the only one , myself and the wife always get told to turn it down by our girls (17 & 13 ) , so we just turn it up more .
I’m having a paternity test done on that kid for that crack.
I played Psychocandy today when I picked up my kid from school,he said the same thing
some understand and some just don't... you did nothing wrong... it's just that good music is not appreciated anymore, music is like Mc Donalds nowadays, fast consume and throw away... not that healthy but it fills you for the moment, i got to this video because my brother introduced me to jesus and mary chain.. and today it's 2 months since cancer took him away from this world, sitting here on youtube remembering better days listening to good music on his yamaha hifi... :-(
One of the best songs ever written by a band of the same definition.
fabulous tune

Now, this is an amazing song.!!! I only recently got into Jesus and Mary Chain, what a fricken great band!
i feel so nostalgic listening to this track. takes me right back to being a kid
Love this song. Brings me way back! 😊
this takes me to my happy place ♥♥♥
aż się łza w oku kręci .. dlaczego dzisiaj tak się nie da ?
freaking awesome quality and sound...finally some record company puts something good that's worth my time...
Dude this band is so awesome I'm so glad I found them there songs are great they should of been way bigger
Happy Melancholy..... These played a big part in my life which revolved around live music back in the late 1980s. I followed The Marychain round for several years and bought everything they released and sadly lost interest after Automatic. Still got all my vinyl tucked away - albums, singles, 10s, 12s, picture discs, gatefolds and so on which I'd love to play again. Discovered my Upside Down teeshirt recently. Listening to this today has stirred my emotions and I really wish I could revisit those days. Happy happy times...... It's embarrassing to think I tried to look like William Reid at the time and I probably looked more like Beryl Reid. What a dick I must have looked. Very tempted to go and see them tour again just for old time sake as I've heard they're out and about.
This is the best pop song ever made. Period.
It is amazing! But I can't escape the opening 4 seconds of "Head On" as the best intro into any song I have ever heard.
fakeaorta Abs-f***-ing-lutely.
Amazing song but idk about best ever, I disagree
How about the opening lyric to Snakedriver?
It's a pop song? Wow. I had no idea all my life.
I just adore this band !!!!
I truly am happy when it rains, and this just makes it better.
Wonderful!
"I would shed my skin for you"......love it love it love it
I must admit The Jesus And Mary Chain are the best name i have ever heard in my life for a band Rock on The Jesus And Mary Chain. And God bless you all live long and prosper.
Perfection. Perfect album
Damn I love this song.

Love My Daughter 4Ever ‼️
Happy When It Shines 🕶️🚴🏻♂️🎸🦸🏼♂️💀
It's as though this band has written the soundtrack to my life, before I was even born.
Listening to this song makes me feel awesome!
Such a good song, it immediately raises my spirit. Love it so much!
My spirt flows like rain wets the dry soil
My fav song ever
I LOVE THIS TOO
Great song and great band. It was probably during the nineties that I first heard them, especially remembering hearing sometimes always. Then getting more into them. If only RUclips was around during the nineties I would have been in music bliss. They're so cute. Love them.
Only recently discovered this amazing song and I love it.
I know this may sound silly but this is something I have been wanting to say for a while. I have loved the 80's ever since I was a teenager. In fact, I have loved the oldies. They are much more meaningful and inspiring. However, since my knowledge in music isn't as broad, I got quickly tired of listening to the same old love songs ( in specific the 80's ballads).
However, as I grew older I found myself interested in other types of 80's music. But I did not know what "genre" it was,the only thing I knew I was always drawn towards the electric and acoustic guitar sounds. Whenever something like this played I would get happy and excited. It took me a while to find out I love UK's alternative rock, post punk, indie rock, and Britpop, dream pop all related to them. But it really wasn't until I watched the movie "Lost in Translation" that lit my bulb!! It led me to find out more about this band and look for more of this type." Now it's probably my favorite band!!! I listen to them almost daily. I also love the 60's sounds, such as "the clientele' and Jarvis Cocker's " Magic works"
Anyway, some suggestion on music bands or songs would be very much appreciated. I want to listen to what finally makes me happy!
The smiths, the cure, Siouxse and the banshees and sisters of mercy are good
The damned 80-85 albums:), if you like JAMC then maybe my bloody valentine. They're also amazing! Ah btw Jarvis Cocker is the coolest .
Just check out punk and new wave and post punk stuff
Ride, Swervedriver, Happy Mondays, Stone Roses, Suede, Primal Scream.
too much beauty for me to handle
I miss this band so much!!
lucky enough to see them live on this tour. Incredible!!!
