That's the advantage of getting older, is that, I can afford to buy kick-ass clothes, boots, shoes, and I have pounds of silver rings. I still even have my first pair of original Doc Martens, 28 hole, lace-ups, with exposed brass eyelets' - remember those? The kids at the university, where I teach, they take notice of me almost instantly, so, I will play some obscure Goth song, during the midterms and finals; if, they can identify the band and title, they get extra credit. I've fostered Gothliness down to new generations, so, I'm called the "Goth-father". The Jesus and Mary Chain, were still just baby's when they made this video. I don't think they even needed to shave, yet... !!! This song is a glorious thing... !!! I love you, Dad... !!!

Happy Melancholy..... These played a big part in my life which revolved around live music back in the late 1980s. I followed The Marychain round for several years and bought everything they released and sadly lost interest after Automatic. Still got all my vinyl tucked away - albums, singles, 10s, 12s, picture discs, gatefolds and so on which I'd love to play again. Discovered my Upside Down teeshirt recently. Listening to this today has stirred my emotions and I really wish I could revisit those days. Happy happy times...... It's embarrassing to think I tried to look like William Reid at the time and I probably looked more like Beryl Reid. What a dick I must have looked. Very tempted to go and see them tour again just for old time sake as I've heard they're out and about.
I must admit The Jesus And Mary Chain are the best name i have ever heard in my life for a band Rock on The Jesus And Mary Chain. And God bless you all live long and prosper.
LOVE this band! Never got to see them in their heyday. A friend from uni went to see them, without telling me! What were they like I asked. They were really, really loud!! Love the album Automatic too.
This song got my attention back in 1987. Great stuff even now! Stands easy out with the guitar riff and the fast paced rhythm. Brilliant! Timeless, indeed...
I loved watching this today! I used to listen to them often over many years of my younger life. For me, they will forever capture the wistful optimism of that time in my life. Thank you to the OP.
I was 27 in 1985 and when my brother asked me to get him "PychoCandy" for Christmas I listened to it in the shop and bought two copies, one on tape for me because I'd just bought a walkman, followed them ever since. After 1998's "Munki" it was 19 years till they brought another new album out but the boys featured on their sister's album in 2007 so that was a sort of Mary Chain album , "Little Pop Rock" by Sister Vanilla, broke that long wait.
I remember listening to Darklands for the first time and being disappointed that it wasn't Psychocandy II. Years later, I re-listened and found myself loving these melodies...this song, April Skies, Down on Me....all great, and all unmistakably JAMC.
something about the jesus and mary chain is so different to most band. The booming drums and fuzzy guitars make their music so amazing on the ears. Being 15 i am lucky enough to have a parent that loves them. This song is one of my favourites i hope that there will be another indie movement the scene is dead.
Great song and great band. It was probably during the nineties that I first heard them, especially remembering hearing sometimes always. Then getting more into them. If only RUclips was around during the nineties I would have been in music bliss. They're so cute. Love them.
I know this may sound silly but this is something I have been wanting to say for a while. I have loved the 80's ever since I was a teenager. In fact, I have loved the oldies. They are much more meaningful and inspiring. However, since my knowledge in music isn't as broad, I got quickly tired of listening to the same old love songs ( in specific the 80's ballads). However, as I grew older I found myself interested in other types of 80's music. But I did not know what "genre" it was,the only thing I knew I was always drawn towards the electric and acoustic guitar sounds. Whenever something like this played I would get happy and excited. It took me a while to find out I love UK's alternative rock, post punk, indie rock, and Britpop, dream pop all related to them. But it really wasn't until I watched the movie "Lost in Translation" that lit my bulb!! It led me to find out more about this band and look for more of this type." Now it's probably my favorite band!!! I listen to them almost daily. I also love the 60's sounds, such as "the clientele' and Jarvis Cocker's " Magic works" Anyway, some suggestion on music bands or songs would be very much appreciated. I want to listen to what finally makes me happy!
Meus 14 anos foram escutando isso, só punk... E mais Depeche Mode, Eco The Bunnymam, The Clash, Morrissey,e outros mais... Chego choro, quando me pego na nostalgia. 😘
I’m a bad dad. I hooked up an antique iPod to my TV’s sound bar and tested it with this unquestionably fabulous song, when out of my 11-year-old son’s room came a request to turn it down. Where did I go wrong!?
some understand and some just don't... you did nothing wrong... it's just that good music is not appreciated anymore, music is like Mc Donalds nowadays, fast consume and throw away... not that healthy but it fills you for the moment, i got to this video because my brother introduced me to jesus and mary chain.. and today it's 2 months since cancer took him away from this world, sitting here on youtube remembering better days listening to good music on his yamaha hifi... :-(
This magnificent and amazing Scottish band took the feeling and the image of British Post-Punk and took it to a new land, your own land. How? Mixing Rock guitar noise, (noisewall) with caramelized melodies of sentimental pop. Impossible mix of Velvet Underground, The Ramones, Rolling Stones circa 68-69, The Stooges, Beach Boys, Joy Division, Siouxsie & The Banshees, T.Rex, Love and Motown melodies. Unique, charismatic, wonderful

What I always liked about these guys is the way they incorporated stuff from what they did before. All those shots on the monitors in this video were from their first record.
Yeah, I can be happy when it's raining... but I have to be in love at the same time. Love really helps with dealing with things that would otherwise be pretty boring. ♥🌧☂🌈🎸

The music surely stands the test of time. What hurts is how young we all were... and now we aren't.

I am so happy Jesus and Mary chain remained an indie band in the 80s and not in the main stream. Big thank you to Reid brothers - great music .
This is one of the most romantic songs ever made. Can’t believe I’m only just being introduced to it. Beautiful.
I cried every single time I saw them perform it live, which I’ve never done before, so it was weird, but joyful! 💜
Só que não. Têm canções bem mais lindas.
One of the coolest voices EVER, and a great band too
Step back and watch the sweet thing
breaking everything she sees
she can take my darkest feeling
tear it up till i'm on me knees
plug into her electric cool
where things bend and break
and shake to the rule
talking fast couldn't tell me something
i would shed my skin for you
talking fast on the edge of nothing
i would break my back for you
don't know why, don't know why
things vaporise and rise to the sky
and we tried so hard
and we looked so good
and we lived our lives in black
but something about you felt like pain
you were my sunny day rain
you were the clouds in the sky
you were the darkest sky
but your lips spoke gold and honey
that's why i'm happy when it rains
i'm happy when it pours
looking at me enjoying something
that feels like feels like pain
to my brain
and if i tell you something
you take me back to nothing
i'm on the edge of something
you take me back
and i'm happy when it rains

It is amazing! But I can't escape the opening 4 seconds of "Head On" as the best intro into any song I have ever heard.
fakeaorta Abs-f***-ing-lutely.
Amazing song but idk about best ever, I disagree
How about the opening lyric to Snakedriver?
It's a pop song? Wow. I had no idea all my life.
Lovin that these tracks are still listened to.. Makes my sense of humanity more real!
Meus 14 anos foram escutando isso, só punk... E mais Depeche Mode, Eco The Bunnymam, The Clash, Morrissey,e outros mais... Chego choro, quando me pego na nostalgia. 😘
E cure? Kkkk
Loved listening to this song on the radio back then. Bought the album and still have it, still play it now and again.
I’m a bad dad. I hooked up an antique iPod to my TV’s sound bar and tested it with this unquestionably fabulous song, when out of my 11-year-old son’s room came a request to turn it down. Where did I go wrong!?
How can someone not like this song
your not the only one , myself and the wife always get told to turn it down by our girls (17 & 13 ) , so we just turn it up more .
I’m having a paternity test done on that kid for that crack.
I played Psychocandy today when I picked up my kid from school,he said the same thing
some understand and some just don't... you did nothing wrong... it's just that good music is not appreciated anymore, music is like Mc Donalds nowadays, fast consume and throw away... not that healthy but it fills you for the moment, i got to this video because my brother introduced me to jesus and mary chain.. and today it's 2 months since cancer took him away from this world, sitting here on youtube remembering better days listening to good music on his yamaha hifi... :-(
Brilliant. I Loved Them So Much.
one of the best love songs ever written
Everyone should have a copy of Darklands, one of the finest albums ever written, i still listen to it now, Great Band,
Damn I love this song.

Love My Daughter 4Ever ‼️
Happy When It Shines 🕶️🚴🏻♂️🎸🦸🏼♂️💀
This magnificent and amazing Scottish band took the feeling and the image of British Post-Punk and took it to a new land, your own land. How? Mixing Rock guitar noise, (noisewall) with caramelized melodies of sentimental pop. Impossible mix of Velvet Underground, The Ramones, Rolling Stones circa 68-69, The Stooges, Beach Boys, Joy Division, Siouxsie & The Banshees, T.Rex, Love and Motown melodies. Unique, charismatic, wonderful
Thanks for
Thanks for doing the reading for us
Anyone else in quarentine? Lol, gotta find the silver lining, guess that's what brought me here :-)
Me. Every time indeed...
I love you
AlwaysSkipTheAd can never go wrong with JMC
Garbage
David Earnest garbage like trash or the band garbage? Opinions mate.
fabulous tune
One of my favorite songs from this amazing band
Step back and watch the sweet thing
Breaking everything she sees
She can take my darkest feeling
Tear it up till I'm on me knees
Plug into her electric cool
Where things bend and break
And shake to the rule
Talking fast couldn't tell me something
I would shed my skin for you
Talking fast on the edge of nothing
I would break my back for you
Don't know why, don't know why
Things vaporize and rise to the sky
And we tried so hard
And we looked so good
And we lived our lives in black
But something about you felt like pain
You were my sunny day rain
You were the clouds in the sky
You were the darkest sky
But your lips spoke gold and honey
That's why I'm happy when it rains
I'm happy when it pours
Looking at me enjoying something
That feels like feels like pain
To my brain
And if I tell you something
You take me back to nothing
I'm on the edge of something
You take me back
And I'm happy when it rains
Now, this is an amazing song.!!! I only recently got into Jesus and Mary Chain, what a fricken great band!
What I always liked about these guys is the way they incorporated stuff from what they did before. All those shots on the monitors in this video were from their first record.
"I would shed my skin for you"......love it love it love it
without doubt the coolest band of all time, effortlessly rock n roll!

beautiful song.
Yeah, I can be happy when it's raining... but I have to be in love at the same time. Love really helps with dealing with things that would otherwise be pretty boring. ♥🌧☂🌈🎸
This song brings peace to me on a rainy day in some very turbulent times.
This song makes me drive on the road slowly, relaxed, with the sunroof open and a beer in hand.....jajajajajaja cheers.....take care.
One of the best songs ever, love it.
SO GLAD J&M CHAIN ARE BACK; CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THEM FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 20+ YEARS IN BRROKLYN, NY ON MAY 14, 2017
aż się łza w oku kręci .. dlaczego dzisiaj tak się nie da ?
This is one of the most sane and heart warming comment ive seen in youtube comment boxes in a very long time. thanks for ending my day with a little chicken soup, greeting from the UK and goodnight.
this takes me to my happy place ♥♥♥
Coolest band in the world and I'm honoured to say I have met William. Top bloke and happy to chat.
It's as though this band has written the soundtrack to my life, before I was even born.
Dude this band is so awesome I'm so glad I found them there songs are great they should of been way bigger
this is great sound remembering high school days.....love it
These guys stopped in our local coffee shop yesterday and when I realized it was them, my head nearly came off from the surprise!
But something about you felt like pain. You were my sunny day rain.
Damn
Great band
simply good to the core
Back in the day, I saw these guys live when they opened for Iggy Pop. That was one Hell of an awesome show!
Soundtrack of the 80s. Thank you for putting this here. Bit more polished than them in the raw at Reading!
