  • This is how to can fresh tuna or other fish in jars at home using a Presto pressure canner. (scroll down for equipment needed) Pressure canning fish is easy and is great for long term storage of fish that doesn't freeze well. This is a complete guide to how to can fish in jars and any fish can be used. This is also great for canned catfish, salmon, flounder, trout and other species and WAY better than store bought tuna! Canned yellowfin tuna is amazing!

    Thank you for this video! I canned my first tuna last year and needed a refresher how to do it. The only thing I did extra was a cold smoke beforehand. Its amazing!

      @maleahiaboreen3721 That's great to hear! We love canning it. When you get a Tuna there is always more than you can eat fresh and it doesn't freeze well for very long. Caning is a great way to enjoy it for months or even years! Thank you for the nice comment!

    Thanks for simplifying this process for me. I take it there will be instructions with the pressure pot I buy on times and pressure at 2,500’ elevation?

      @davidnorcutt2479 yes sir. Mine came with a great manual that has all of that. You can get one here: amzn.to/3T8JizN

    Thank you! But why are you removing the rings? I thought they reinforce the lid.

    • @scottnra
      @scottnra  26 дней назад

      @kaihill3608 They are not needed once the jar is sealed. This way you don't have a lot of rings just sitting in storage. Those lids are not going anywhere unitl you pop them loose, usually with a can opener or spoon! haha

    Salt? Or only tuna?

    • @scottnra
      @scottnra  Год назад

      Rose just what you see in the video. nothing else is needed although you can add some things if you like like herbs and spices. I prefer to not do that for flexibility later.

    What is better, raw tuna, or precooked tuna?

    • @scottnra
      @scottnra  9 месяцев назад

      @luxs_en That's very subjective, haha. I prefer seared "Ahi" style with a thin sear on the outside, raw on the inside. However, You have to eat all your tuna up in a month or two or its gets very fishy in the freezer. Canning it makes it last for years and those are entirely different dishes you make with it.

      @@scottnra I mean cooking before canning. Just to reduce the amount of liquid in the fish.
      I only can sprats, but I do bake them before canning.

    • @scottnra
      @scottnra  Год назад

      @candacec3950. No. I added nothing. Just stuffed in in and them processed it. That way you can do whatever later to it. It has kept incredibly well too!

      @HamHata Nope. Just fish. Just like you see. Then you can add whatever later. Pretty simple.
