THANK YOU doctor for mentioning that neck lines are not necessarily from old age. I've had my necklines since I was a kid! Noticed them at about 9 years old!!
I am 45 and recently started using straight up castor oil (organic, hexane-free, glass bottle) on my neck and face (along with a good moisturizer). OMG - Try castor oil for a few weeks before throwing money at expensive products. It also has many other health benefits. I've seen the biggest benefits on my neck. Lines are disappearing, and my skin looks smoother and more plump.
@@Samantha-xr4mx Though I'm sure there is a limitation on how much can be accomplished, I have seen great improvement to my jaw and neck by doing neck firming exercises. You can search youtube for different ones, but I have a favorite and it's simple. Lift the chin (like you are looking up to the sky), smile, stick your tongue out and move it left to right, back and forth over your upper lip, like you are seductively licking your upper lip. Do this for one minute, and you will feel the tightness in your neck.
A few weeks really? What has the glass bottle have to do with neck lines? What if castor oil triggers an allergic reaction which is very common with plant oils? Most of these product recommendations are already being used on the face so it's not really an added expense versus purchasing an expensive organic castor oil just for the neck that could go rancid in a few weeks after opening unless you use if for cooking too. 🤷🏻♂️
@@mdml0The glass bottle is important as castor oil has strong permeability (and could pull out toxins from plastics), which is why it is said to reach deeper layers of the skin, and even the bloodstream. I'm not calling myself an expert, but there are many videos out on the wonderful benefits of castor oil (many more uses than the neck). I'm just sharing that I've been really impressed with using it so far. It is easily becoming one of my favorite beauty and wellness product. Yes, it has to be good one to get the benefits which come from an extensive nutritive content. And Yes, always wise to test a small area for allergic reaction.

I learned how to sleep on my back when I brought my dog home 3.5 years ago. From day 1, he refused to sleep anywhere else but on top of me. I never had the heart to move him and he has the best cuddles anyway, so I just learned to sleep on my back so that he could sleep with me, laid across my lap. 😊
I've always been a side sleeper. It is hard for me to sleep on my back. What I have done in the past when I had some surgeries done I placed a pillow under my knees and I learned through doing my own research that having support under the knees can help keep the spine naturally straight and help release some of the pressure it can undergo during sleeping.
My physical therapist says it takes about 3-4 weeks before a habit starts ie sleeping in your back which he says is the best position. Putting pillows underneath your knees can make this more comfortable
I just got filler in my biggest tech neck line and I’m so happy with it! It didn’t erase the problem, but for $700 it’s at least a stop gap while I use my Tret regularly and maybe save up for a laser!
Tip for back sleeping: put small claw clips in your hair at the temples. They will dig in and force you to flip over. This helped me back sleep consistently so my fresh helix piercings could heal.
I tried micro needling for the first time last month, and I’m pleased with the result. I’m going to continue this. Ihave used skincare on my neck along with sun protection, and omnilux red light. I have also used the NIRA laser consistently for the past year, and have seen less crepey skin.
I sleep with a very small pillow under my neck to keep the natural curve in my neck. It’s comfortable & doesn’t push my chin forward like a regular bed pillow. It can be helpful to put a pillow under the back of your knees also (as far as comfort)
The way I converted from side-sleeping to back-sleeping was cocooning myself in a sleeping bag instead of using covers. Not only did the greatly decreased mobility force me to stay on my back, I also saved on the heating bill.
Another derm said that there is a difference between “techneck” and the lines that many of us have since childhood. But to my knowledge they never explained how you tell the difference. But of all the things that might bother me, these don’t phase me at all. As I have had them all my life, it’s just part of me. What bothers me though is the wrinkly (crepey)skin under my chin due to weight loss. Nice to know botox might help.
It’s NOT the horizontal lines that are a big deal ❗️🤷♀️ ITS THOSE VERTICAL LINES ❗️ the part that looks like “ old lady” neck in those photos are the wrinkles/ loose skin that’s running vertically
I've used both the Revision Skincare and the Neostrata creams and out of the 2, I preferred the Neostrata. It left my neck and decolletage feeling hydrated and smooth. The smoothness lasted for several days (forgot to re-order prior to running out). I have tried a TON of neck and dec creams and by far, the Neostrata did the best job at minimizing these lines. I personally didn't notice any change with the Revision cream.
Losing weight (92lbs) made a difference to mine. The neck lines are much more shallow & I was also getting creasing on my upper chest (décolletage) which are now gone. Support with lots of moisturisers, oils, retinoids, exfoliating, etc. The Ordinary also has a 0.2% retinal which is much cheaper than Medi8. Alternate nightly with a 2% retinol without issues.
I have a heavy weighted blanket .I noticed when I use it I'm unable to move but it is very comfortable .I wake up in the same position as I went to sleep.
Never mind about the "tech neck"... I am often in the kitchen and continuously looking down while prepping, cooking, and cleaning up is a given and for the most part inevitable. Nonetheless, I'll keep trying to remediate a bit with the tretinoin. Thank you for all the tips!
Kybella is very expensive and very painful. Instead of paying that hudge price, it's better to have a little surgery in the neck. Love to see your post. You present in a very objective manner the possible alternatives and options. I truly appreciate that. Thank you.
Adapalene gel is so effective on my neck lines. No irritation at all compared to tretinoin. Just make sure to moisturize after as it can be too drying.
I couldn't sleep on my back either. Always been a side or tummy sleeper. Then we got adjustable beds and OMGee what a game changer! I can slightly adjust the head and foot and now I can sleep all night long on my back and i wake up way more refreshed than ever before.
Tech neck or text neck is also a chiropractic term that refers to the "Granny Hump" on the top of the back, or what is called "Dowager's Hump". It is preventable and reversible. I have the opposite issue- I can put retinaldehyde on my neck ten times a day if I want and it doesn’t get irritated, but my face can only handle it once a week.
I’m one of those ppl that has had those horizontal neck lines since I was a kid. I’m 36 now. So really none of this would help me. I still bring down my retinal serum to the neck but it’s a lost cause. Lol.
A major problem I have is getting a pillow that helps with neck lines. I tried so many pillows that I honestly don’t know what to purchase anymore. Do you recommend one that is silk pillow that helps not make neck lines worst and also when I put serums etc in face at night to not rub in the pillow when I turn to my side at night. Please help ❤. Thank you ☺️.
apply sun protection to my neck every day. However, it also means that my hair often looks stringy when I wear it down. Is there any advice on how to avoid this?
I’d been a front-sleeper my whole life until I broke my leg and I had to sleep on my back because of my brace. The one thing that has helped was… an airplane neck pillow flipped upside down like a “U” 😅 no fancy temprapedic or memory foam block, just a microbead neck pillow I bought in the airport lol I place the base of the “U” at the base of my head, where my neck naturally gaps my pillow, and then the sides of the “U” sit up by my ears to help me feel secure and keep my face from rolling too far to either side! You can try something similar by rolling up a towel to place behind your neck in the same “U” position, with the sides going up towards the top of your head. Sometimes I’ll also build “armrests” with pillows tucked under each shoulder to feel more secure and prevent the urge to roll over 😂 Learned the trick from someone who struggles with hypermobile joints!
I’ve been using my airport purchased neck pillow for a few years now!! 😊 I started using it when I was reading in bed (but turned the other way with the U turned down) then I discovered that it was also a comfortable way to sleep when it was turned the other way!
I use expensive products but I recently just bought Tallow! Wow! My skin is so glowy. I only use it at night though. It’s definitely hydrating and helps with my eczema.
Hello Dr Ellis. Great video-thanks so much for helping us learn. I tried the advanced neck cream from DRMTLGY for my neck lines, but not too long after I started using it, I noticed a few skin tags had started to form on my neck, which I had never had prior to using the cream so I quit using it. Does it sound right to you that there could be an ingredient in the cream that caused that reaction? If so, would one of the other creams that you recommended in this video be a better choice for me? Thanks!
I used a retinol serum on my lower neck a couple of times and I ended up with a reaction that took weeks to shift. My neck skin there is now quite sensitive, more than before 😢
I will say, the only thing that ever worked for me was silicone patches, but like you said, ONLY if you're diligent with wearing them. Edit: RUclips keeps deleting my replies but for those who have asked, I get the cheap ones from places like eBay or the Chinese sites, I've never paid more than $5 for one. You can get a month+ out of each one if you're willing to tie something like a small scarf or long sock around them to keep them in place overnight.
@@padmajavempaty7848 To be honest, I get the cheap ones from Al*Expr*ss (RUclips censors this word), usually $2 - $3 each. They're sticky for a few days but I just put a stretchy headband or tie something (loosely) like a small scarf or long sock around it to keep it in place throughout the night/day and then I rinse it in cold water when I take it off. I can get about a month out of each one before I decide to switch to a new one, purely because they start to discolor after a few weeks.

First would be to have the right mattress for you. Second, stretch out your whole body before you sleep. Then you can release your body sleeping feeling best with your body AND organs in a natural position instead of lop-sided, etc., such as when you are on your side.
I dealt with this during Covid because wearing a mask was causing my lips to get really flaky. There are a variety of reasons that could cause it, but I know that what worked for me, after consulting a dermatologist, was using an antifungal. For my instance, the moisture that was trapped around my lips due to the mask was causing cracking and peeling.
Please give an advice for a road trip or flight, and if I want to wear makeup which products are okay? With air conditioning my skin gets itchy and blotchy.
I wish I could fine a dermatologist like you. I had bad experiences with dermatologist; they were grumpy and made rude comments!! Also, they just care about how much they could charge!$$
Hi Dr. Ellis! I have been using the Skin Ceuticals retinol .3 for about two months now, and my skin is still getting a little dry and flakey after using it. I only use it once a week, and I put it on top of my moisturizer. I do have sensitive skin, but is it normal that I'm still experience dry/flakiness? That is the only symptom I'm experiencing, I just want to make sure I am not harming my skin. I'm great about sunscreen!
Doc I am 7 days out from co2 fractional laser on face, neck and chest and apparently it has exasperated a festoon i apparently had Its a white line that runs from my inner eye and across my cheek area where a small lump has formed. I have tied lymp draining, icing, pressure, jade rolling, you name it, I’m doing it 🤦♀️. Any ideas to get the lump out? The skin after co2 is really amazing ❤
My biggest concern about some of these tutorials is that the products that are suggested are outrageously expensive! Just the red light therapy mask alone is almost $400! And that retinol cream that you were talking about? That alone is 115$ -118.00$! That's entirely too expensive for a couple of lines on my neck! I just think that a lot of these tools are just outrageous! SO I have a few lines on my neck - I'm almost 70 now - big deal! What do I use? Castor oil. I use it every night on my face, neck, and decollete, and I think I spent all of about 15.00 for it. It's moisturizing and extremely nourishing for the skin. I refuse to open up a bankroll just to get a tool to look younger! I think it's ridiculous, and it's Highway- Robbery.
My dermatologist said it does; and when I first started she said to “sandwhich” the products. Light layer or moisturizer, Retin A, then another layer of moisturizer as needed. This helped with the irradiation side effect when I first started. I can now use Retin A, no problem, but still use moisturizer over it (thick one - Vani Cream, Cream) so I have nice supple skin in the morning.
Hi Dr Ellis , I have some neck wrinkles I want to purchase a red light therapy face and neck mask but Omnilux is tooo expensive! Have you ever heard of the Nutriskin face and neck mask ? It’s a cheaper option and it has 5 star reviews! But then again most do and they rarely work!
Dr Sam. I cannot sleep on my back either. I have tried but love the side. I have an amazing pillow Inside that doesn't smoosh your face. Not so sure about the neck. Can my gyn prescribe an estrogen cream for my face? How do you know what strength or percentage to use? Thank you
What do you think about the Alastin Neck cream Dr. Sam? I am not sure if it is really different from the regular Alastin serum, if it is supposed to be used jn addiction to it or instead of it...
My problem is loose, saggy neck skin following weight loss :(. I lost my double chin, but I think that actually looked better than what I have now! I feel like no matter how much my skin improves via skincare, I will always look terrible as long as I have the sagging neck skin. I'm thinking about purchasing a microcurrent device like the nuface mini to try to fix it. Although I've read I have to be careful to only use it where my double chin was, right underneath my jaw. Since apparently going over the thyroid in the center/lower part of the neck could be dangerous... Do you know if ultrasound therapy works? I'm wondering if Kybella might work for me, too. Surgery on the neck sounds too scary; I don't want to risk someone hitting something vital in the neck just for my vanity. I just don't know what to do and I'm disappointed because I was previously happy with my skincare results and now I feel like whenever I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror, all I see is old lady neck skin. I know it's not something I should worry about or care about that much and it's a little vain, but it's still disappointing lol.
I’m 25 with brown skin and a long neck and a stressful finance job which has resulted in several horizontal lines on my neck. My lines aren’t deep but there are many of them and I think they are quite visible due to my skin color and long neck. I started with the inkey list retinol last year since I’m new to retinols and didn’t want to use something strong. I’ve since switched to using something stronger. The lines have def become less noticeable in the front, only the one at the bottom continues to be nicely visible. The lines are still pretty visible from the sides unfortunately. I’m trying to be more conscious of my posture and will try to incorporate the sleeping suggestion as well as I def sleep like a ball lol
Hi Dr Ellis, I am 54 and have vertical lines on my thin neck, do you think using a derma roller at home is an effective way to remove the lines? Anything I have to pay attention when using the derma roller? Btw, I have been using red light for about six months but there’s nothing happened to my neck lines😢
Although I’m 59 years old, I had no issue with neck sagging until this past year when I lost 65 lbs. Now it is quite noticeable and I have consulted a plastic surgeon who said the only option is surgery, but I cannot afford a neck lift at this point. I know looking down at the phone for hours is an issue, but I was wondering if any of these treatments are worth trying? I understand that they can’t fix the laxity problem, but would they be beneficial in stopping further sagging?
Can you please do a video about senile petichae? I don’t get the large bruises, but I get these crazy purple ed spots- very dark on my pale skin and really bother me. Only on my forearms and left FAR worse than right (commuting in the SF Bay Area anyone?). I have been using retinoid body creams fairly regularly, but they don’t seem to help much. Would red light therapy help? Please, any advice you have would be helpful- these really bother me…
I have the Ziip Halo, and it can be used on the sides of the neck, but never the middle. You have to avoid the trachea area. So, it may not be as beneficial as you'd like since the lines run over the trachea/middle of the neck.
Hi Dr.Ellis, I have a question about using retinol with red light therapy. I currently have the omnilux mask for the face but according to their website it advises against using red light with retinol for at least five days. Why is this? And how can I use both? Also to help not looking down at your phone (atleast at night) there are these things that will hold your phone or tablet up in the air for you so your looking upwards not downwards. It wraps around the shoulder and holds it upwards for you. Their like 5$ on eBay too
Honestly, this is such an incredible video. I can see the effort put into it ❤️ thank you so much
What is your eyeshadow brand and color in this video? Stunning!
I have the opposite issue- I can put retinaldehyde on my neck ten times a day if I want and it doesn’t get irritated, but my face can only handle it once a week.
Hello doctor! Lots of love from India! Would be really helpful if you could talk about bond repair treatments like olaplex, k18, etc. 😭
I would love this too. ❤
Check her hair care videos as she's talked about those products. So has Dr. Jenny Liu.
Check out Abbey Yung.
I’m one of those ppl that has had those horizontal neck lines since I was a kid. I’m 36 now. So really none of this would help me. I still bring down my retinal serum to the neck but it’s a lost cause. Lol.
How about Olay’s products? 🤷♀️
I’ve found Empelle and tretinoin a great neck combo.
Empelle? I use tretinoin already
Thank you for your videos! Have you ever tried any Biossance products? I am curious what you think of them for sensitive skin and anti aging.
apply sun protection to my neck every day. However, it also means that my hair often looks stringy when I wear it down. Is there any advice on how to avoid this?
You can try applying a translucent setting powder (like how you would set your makeup) over your sunscreen to avoid any transfer onto your hair!
I’ve been hearing red light therapy can melt facial fat long term. Any thoughts on this?
first time i see her in such a color! looks great!
6 to 9 hours a night creasing those horizontal bands, whoa!
I’d been a front-sleeper my whole life until I broke my leg and I had to sleep on my back because of my brace. The one thing that has helped was… an airplane neck pillow flipped upside down like a “U” 😅 no fancy temprapedic or memory foam block, just a microbead neck pillow I bought in the airport lol
I place the base of the “U” at the base of my head, where my neck naturally gaps my pillow, and then the sides of the “U” sit up by my ears to help me feel secure and keep my face from rolling too far to either side! You can try something similar by rolling up a towel to place behind your neck in the same “U” position, with the sides going up towards the top of your head. Sometimes I’ll also build “armrests” with pillows tucked under each shoulder to feel more secure and prevent the urge to roll over 😂
Learned the trick from someone who struggles with hypermobile joints!
I never would have thought of an airplane neck pillow. I’m going to give this a try.
will give it a try! thanks!
We Hypermobile joint folks are always uncomfortable 🫠
I’ve been using my airport purchased neck pillow for a few years now!! 😊 I started using it when I was reading in bed (but turned the other way with the U turned down) then I discovered that it was also a comfortable way to sleep when it was turned the other way!
FYI the way you use the airplane pillow to sleep is actually the correct way to use people on planes use it wrong.
I had read my loose crepey skin may be a result of my hypothyroidism…Have you done a video about this? Thank you I am post menopausal also.
I use expensive products but I recently just bought Tallow! Wow! My skin is so glowy. I only use it at night though. It’s definitely hydrating and helps with my eczema.
may i ask what brand you bought?
Like beef tallow? Is it a cream or straight beef tallow? I’m so interested!
@@gena_unknown yes!
@@lauradorian9444is it in a cosmetic cream form, or grocery store used for cooking tallow?
My neck skin there is now quite sensitive, more than before 😢
Hello Dr sam ellis absolutely beautiful skincare routine ❤ xx
Is red light neck mask safe for the thyroid?
it is.
Can you share a reliable source to buy these?

Please please do a video on exfoliative cheilitis & what to do about it !
Waiting for Prequel to come to our country. Also, congratulations for winning the award, doctor❤
Please give an advice for a road trip or flight, and if I want to wear makeup which products are okay? With air conditioning my skin gets itchy and blotchy.
no make up. just use thick balm
This is great info! What about PRP? Would that also be an option for treating neck lines?
What about including more collagen/protein in the diet to support more collagen production. Especially as we age.. ??
Doe my neck, the vertical lines appear more prominent than the horizontal lines…. Perhaps they are caused by the skin losing elasticity?
Doc I am 7 days out from co2 fractional laser on face, neck and chest and apparently it has exasperated a festoon i apparently had Its a white line that runs from my inner eye and across my cheek area where a small lump has formed. I have tied lymp draining, icing, pressure, jade rolling, you name it, I’m doing it 🤦♀️. Any ideas to get the lump out? The skin after co2 is really amazing ❤
Excellent video!!!! Does HIFU work for this?
Good input.wish to knw whr u are situated so people can come to u for treatment.
I use 0.025%😅 tretonoin on my neck, while applying 0.05 on my face
Hi Does putting a moisturizer over retinal maintain the efficacy of the retinal
My dermatologist said it does; and when I first started she said to “sandwhich” the products. Light layer or moisturizer, Retin A, then another layer of moisturizer as needed. This helped with the irradiation side effect when I first started. I can now use Retin A, no problem, but still use moisturizer over it (thick one - Vani Cream, Cream) so I have nice supple skin in the morning.
The chemist Alex Padgett recommended Niod Neck Catalyst. And I love it, It works.
It didn’t work for me, it even changed the skin texture, not in a good way
Is there a treatment for horizontal dents on the neck with a creme?
Tech Neck, so true for me, I’m a Nail Tech. My head is down all day, every working day. There’s literally no way around it that I’m aware of.
Different subject, but are you familiar with the ultra clear laser or with tixel?
Hi Dr Ellis , I have some neck wrinkles I want to purchase a red light therapy face and neck mask but Omnilux is tooo expensive! Have you ever heard of the Nutriskin face and neck mask ? It’s a cheaper option and it has 5 star reviews! But then again most do and they rarely work!
Dr Sam, my checks are smooth, but when I smile, the skin under my eyes look thin and deflated…..any mild irritants that could plump this skin out?
I’m trying to be more conscious of my posture and will try to incorporate the sleeping suggestion as well as I def sleep like a ball lol
oh im not alone when i say those lines on a long neck is something that guys actually find attractive
I've used organic castor oil in a dark bottle to preserve its potency but don't see any improvement.
Do you offer Ellacore in your office?
How do you feel about that protocal?
Hi Dr Ellis, I am 54 and have vertical lines on my thin neck, do you think using a derma roller at home is an effective way to remove the lines? Anything I have to pay attention when using the derma roller? Btw, I have been using red light for about six months but there’s nothing happened to my neck lines😢
Yes
Sleeping on back is not recommended by other doctors - don't have the links but have seen in on youtube
The filler won’t stretch out the skin over time? Seems like it would cause issues over time.
Ty so much! This has been so informative...I have neck lines and it's making me depressed....thank you fir this information!
I understand that they can’t fix the laxity problem, but would they be beneficial in stopping further sagging?
retinal 0.1%
Is there a silicone patch you would recommend?
Can you please do a video about senile petichae? I don’t get the large bruises, but I get these crazy purple
ed spots- very dark on my pale skin and really bother me. Only on my forearms and left FAR worse than right (commuting in the SF Bay Area anyone?). I have been using retinoid body creams fairly regularly, but they don’t seem to help much. Would red light therapy help? Please, any advice you have would be helpful- these really bother me…
What’s your opinion on gua sha?
How would a micro current be on the neck? I do my face and have wondered if it would be safe on my neck.
I have the Ziip Halo, and it can be used on the sides of the neck, but never the middle. You have to avoid the trachea area. So, it may not be as beneficial as you'd like since the lines run over the trachea/middle of the neck.
MC is safe on the neck but they all suggest to not use on the throat area
What are your thoughts on ULTHERAPY? That is what my dermatologist suggested for me. I am 58
I spent a lot of money on it with zero results. I was bummed.
Oh no! that is discouraging. I wish Dr. Ellis practiced near me! @@kerryallen4665
Same, no results
Same here…, expensive, extremely painful, for very little result.
Same
I sleep on my back and wake up with neck wrinkles idk how to sleep different???!!! I use all my skincare (tretnoin) and sunscreen everywhere 🤍🤍🤍🤍
Where do you stand on bioremodelling injections like Profhilo for the neck to reduce horizontal lines?
Hi Dr.Ellis,
I have a question about using retinol with red light therapy. I currently have the omnilux mask for the face but according to their website it advises against using red light with retinol for at least five days. Why is this? And how can I use both? I currently have a prescription for tretinoin.
I use tretinoin at night red light in morning.
I do the same. Tretinoin is best used at night anyway and use omnibus after my coffee in the morning
