Billy "Boom Boom" Sheehan, the greatest bass player on Earth! I love this guy, best concert I have ever seen was "Eat 'Em and Smile" Tour , the pinnacle of musicianship and showmanship. All the guitar wizards in my city of Winnipeg were all slack jawed with eyes bugging out. Bill taught us a bass can be a legit solo instrument.
Indeed he was. He showed a whole generation of players that so many techniques associated with 6 string guitar could be done an octave lower as well as in the same range with equal proficiency to any guitar player ..And not just with 2 handed techniques but harmonics, right hand capo and all kind of things. He had a massive impact on other players…Billy was so great he was STARTLING. (Paul)
I met Billy, in 1992, Pembroke Pines Florida. When our, then-band, opened up for Mr. Big. I was the Bassist in our band. We both, joked about: "I'm just the Bass Player"
Man, that must have been an incredible experience! I'm just a guy who plays around on guitar, but if I could have met EVH in that same scenario, I would've probably just frozen. Lol 😂 My hat's off to you for keeping it together brother.
5150 and EEAS were superhuman hard rock. Fans were treated to the best of both worlds so the speak. Then there was Mr Big, the last great hard rock band…. What an interview !
Marty that spot where your sitting is THE spot for future interviews in that nice music store. Wow Billy Sheehan. He's the man. That music store is going to take off. It will be the spot to run into players and friends. Thank you.
Hilarious to watch Billy noodling on the guitar when he’s talking to you Marty. He may not even realize he’s doing it, but it reveals one of many reasons I’m sure why he is the master on a bass. I saw an interview recently with someone who knew Hendrix and he said the same thing, specifically Jimi always had a guitar with him and was always playing it, and was oftentimes not even aware he was noodling around.
I used to be obsessive when I was young. I'd walk into a house, or room. And if there was a guitar. The 1st words out of my mouth was "who's guitar is that?" and the 2nd, "can I play it?"... I would often talk to friends, while holding a guitar and be playing while fully engaged in the conversation. And, I'm Far, far from a Legend... Well, in my own mind maybe...
@tonymilam206 I was working at the venue they played at, Steve signed my Jem, met the Vai band, and had a brief chat with Satch. Steve had a really bad cold at the time, but when he was on stage, you would never know. It was a great experience, to be sure.
What a cool video .... I live in East Tennessee, so that's "my" side of Nashville..... I am stopping by next time I'm in town! Thanks, Marty! Rock On, Guitar Friends!!! 🎸🤟🍺🍹🍻🥃🧑🌾🇺🇲🏴☠️🌽🍅
I've met Billy a couple times thru a mutual friend - such a great guy and of course a monster player! Saw him play some cover tu es for a midday gig in Nashville at a small venue several years ago and it was so cool how reserved he laid down a solid groove and played to serve the music. I wondered how many in the small crowd even knew who he was.
From Jeremy: what a great video!! My only complaint was it was too short lol! I’m sure you had loads of other questions too! Thanks for the awesome content Marty!!
Good Job Marty (I assume that's your name). Billy comes across as genuine and awesome. Have you tried out the budget Monoprice indio guitars? I've bought a couple of them and I was impressed. The gold top lp with p90's is my fav so far. I look forward to your videos. I plan to get started this year making videos. Peace
‘Wicked Fester Band’ ? ….Don’t you mean wicked lester which was the name of KISS before they were signed to Casablanca in 1973 ? Some of these inaccurate profile titles should be ‘banned’ (Paul)
@@walterevans2118 Nope. Play on words with Fester Addams from the Addams family. Long story but has to do with our late drummers chronic hand infection if you must know.
6:50 Lovely to hear Billy talk about Edward with such affection and about how kind he was to Billy before he became a big name himself during the Talas days in the early 1980s when supporting VH…. I don’t think the Roth band and Van Halen were competitive really. That was all stirred up by DLR in the press. Edward in interviews really respected Billy and Steve Vai calling them ‘the hottest guns in town’ and called them brilliant players after they went on to do their own solo things and Mr. Big after departing from DLR…Nice comments about Mikey too….I think that although people could learn stuff about the business from Roth I think in other ways he was an exemplar of what NOT to do. Particularly in the way he treated other people…He always loved to stir the pot to create conflicts to shine the light on himself when it was the skill of his musicians who were doing all the heavy lifting…According to ALEX in 2021 DLR wouldn’t even give posthumous due tribute to his Brother which deeply upset Alex who was suffering enough from losing him. He may have been an extraordinary physical frontman and personality who wrote some good lyrics but it was Edward and Alex who were the musical creative Atomic Nucleus of Van Halen who made it fly…. (Paul)

You have the best smile on the interview, its like your thinking, i'm sitting next to Billy F'n Sheehan+++++++
Some people might see Billy doodling on the Bass while the interview was going on, and think Billy was either bored or rude. And the fact is, he was neither. All musio's watching, be it home player or pro, know if you have your guitar, 4, 6, 12 string, you can listen, talk and be fully engaged, And doodle on the guitar. This conversation takes me back to my early “adulthood” in the post-1984 era. Billy smoked the bass part on “Tobacco Road” 🤟🏼
Thanks Marty! Billy's a true great. Very interesting.
Side note, I decided to go with the Weber Mass 100 for an attenuator. We'll see how it goes.
Cool! I hope that it works out nicely! 😎
Awesome interview! Great questions Marty. Thanks for sharing!
Great interview Marty! And what a cool guy Billy is. One of my all-time fav's.

Yes - nice one , great interview !! Love Billy ., Its hard to imagine Eat Em & Smile without Billy on there.
Billy Sheehan is a class act and an inspiration to us all
Great interview! I'm feeling really old now! Bill is about 5 years older than me! 😮😊 Thanks Marty 🤘
Great alternative step to the channel, along with your lessons there is a lot of potential in your channel, thanks.

You are my favorite VH to get EVH songs broke down today you brought it up so many more levels Billy the best bass player IMO and great human.
Thanks man! I really appreciate it. Very glad to help out. 🖤🎸

That was bloody great....Billy is aging but he's lived 5 lives!!!
Loved Billy with DLR - ( I learned how to play JUMP on Keyboards with solo / the sheet music helped-)
Billy is such a great guy 😎🤘🏆
Great interview Marty... love Billy, seems like such a humble and personable guy. And oh yeah, one of the greatest musicians who ever lived.
Very cool. I think that guy is the most amazing bass player I have ever heard!

In the 80’s he was known as “Bad” Billy Sheehan
