I love blouses! My favorite is the Olya Shirt from Paper Theory. So far I have sewn a solid color linen, printed cotton, and a striped linen; there will be more!

Great selection....thank you. I'm about to make my third Vikisews Cynthia oversized shirt. I have received compliments each time I have worn it from people who don't know I sewed it. The pattern is oversized where it should be but still shows your figure where it should so it doesn't feel as though you are wearing excess fabric. And Vikisews patterns are priced right and she has frequent sales.
Some really interesting shirts there. Love that upcycle one. I think tower placket is the term you're looking for. I've recently made the Friday Pattern Company Butano Button-up, short sleeve version. Very nice make and comfortable to wear in a nice cotton poplin.

I love button up shirts, especially ones that have a different detail. I have made the Assembly Line one and I love it. Here is a few of my favorites: Momos Atelier Boxy Shirt, it has 3 different styles and two different sleeves and collars. I have made 3 of these elongated shirts and I get compliments from strangers every time I wear them. The Sewing Workshop offers several patterns for button up shirts with a twist, The Cottage, Riviera, and The Florence to name a few. Atelier Brunette LA has the Chemise Boyfriend Shirt with a great yoke detail. Merchant and Mills has the new Scout Shirt and Dress with a matching Necktie, and finally the one I am swooning over is the Maker’s Atelier The Atelier Shirt. It has 3 different back options including a completely pleated back option and 2 different cuff placket styles. So many shirts to sew. 🙂

Now I‘ve decided on the Modern Makers Co. classic shirt- I will get started soon and just hope, it has been the right choice. Hi Rachel Great topic for autumn. I am also exploring shirt making and have recently made a few. One success was the Tessuti Ines overshirt and it turned out fabulous with a cotton/linen blend. I'm also cutting out The Assembly Line Cap sleeve shirt as I'm watching this and was thrilled you mentioned it. I have had this pattern for several years and have finally overcome my fear of buttons. :) After having a quick read through of their instructions they look really good for a beginner. Thank you so much again for the videos, inspiring and encouraging.

I love a button down shirt, Greyfriars are a new to me company and their shirt is very stylish,it’s going on my must buy list. I’ve made the Assembly line oversize shirt several times, and think it looks good on everybody. The only problem is if you have to shorten it, (like I did ) the pockets don’t really work, I thought they’d be too high. Bridget

Oh I love a great shirt pattern. As a small busted lady, I don't want side darts, maybe fisheye darts if I want a little bit of a fitted shirt. I started sewing my own shirts when I was 14 or 15 in the early 70's. My mom's old singer didn't have a buttonhole attachment, so I always used snaps instead. I love a sleeve placket and a 2 button wider cuff. Shirts are just so versatile! I am definitely checking out that package that gives you options to change your shirt pattern. I also love to use a vintage pattern. Sometimes, they have just interesting design styles. One thing to be careful of is the super long collars on a 70's shirt. Thanks for all the research once again. Oh and buttonholes can be so frustrating. I find quite often, all but that very last buttonhole sew in perfectly. Now that is annoying!
I just made the oversized shirt by Assembly Line last week. It is great overall, but I didn’t like the finish for the cuff opening slit. The instructions would have you simply fold over the seam allowance but I bound it instead. Also shortened it as I am only 5 feet tall and didn’t want a dress!
Presentation of shirts is fascinating, but I appreciate you were talking for a while about buttonholes and how difficult it is to make them on the domestic machine. This is my horrible nightmare when I dream of sewing a jacket or a coat. I usually resign from it because of buttonholes. It sucks. Would you reveal what kind of machine one should have to make beautiful buttonholes???
Hi Joanna, my preference is always getting my button holes done by a near by repair shop that has an industrial button hole machine, I won't be buying one anytime soon as they are rather expensive! I'm sure some domestic machines are good for button holes but I haven't found one yet, I'll put the question out in a future video!
@@gemimalondon that´s a good idea to ask the community. I haven´t found so far a repair shop which would make my buttonholes. I asked in a few. They always refuse to help. I don´t live in the UK :(
