I went from no editing experience straight into Davinci Resolve. I don’t know if anyone else has mentioned this but Blackmagic’s own instructional videos are great. Downloadable footage to learn along with as well. It’s a great start and really gets you over the hump.
I ended up getting the speed editor with the legit key for studio version. I watched a few of their tutorials and I was glad I did. They explained some functionality of the device way better than many of the other RUclipsr’s. Rare that a company can actually represent their product as well as they do.
I edited for 3/4 of a year on premiere and got kinda good at it. I started with davinci a couple of weeks ago and I can do even more stuff in less time learning the program.
So good to finally see the bigger RUclipsrs making the switch over! I've been on Resolve Studio for the past 4 years and love it! It literally gets exponentially better with every new release too!
Just switched over myself a few weeks ago. Matti, just a heads up you can install a GYROFLOW plugin directly into resolve to stabilize your FPV footage. Works great! Can drop the plug-in effect right onto your clip. Did a video on it if you want to check it out. Think you’ll use this one for your FPV shots. 👍👍👍
Hey Matti, not to hate but this video feels like a big ad. Exactly the same video as sam kolder or peter m. I get that davinci is paying for this videos but it feels that youtubers are only making this videos for the $ not because they truly love the software
I’ve been using Davinci for the last 4 years. Found it to be an all-in-one tool with no monthly membership, developed by a company specialized in video filming and editing. That is the main reason to use it. Also, there are tons of content in RUclips dedicated to coloring, effects and sound
Super excited you are helping bring awareness about DaVinci Resolve to more people! The more people that get to use this awesome software and join the community the better! Rock on Matti!
@@paulkfilms I’m sure more and more people will switch over to Resolve Black Magic Design just keeps making it more awesome with more features that everybody wants. It’s just a matter of time and I think it’s gonna take over😜😁👍
I’ve been using Resolve for a few years and really like it. It was my move into “real” editing after outgrowing iMovie. Having never used Premiere or Final Cut I can’t speak to a comparison. My biggest struggle is audio because of hearing issues. The visuals help clarify different tracks that sound the same to my ears.
DVR for the win. Being free made it a no brainer for someone getting into editing for the first time, because I figured that if I didn't like it or found something better, then it wasn't going to cost me anything to switch - plus I could learn a lot of the principles that you can take to any software later. Spoiler: I'm still using DVR and have now upgraded to the paid-for Studio version as it offers so many amazing tools such as the magic mask.
Also , don't forget about the power of davinci resolve fusion and fusion templates. I literally got a fusion macro template that let you animate anything however you want , without even needing a single keyframe. Davinci templates are super powerful. Let me know if you need any help with davinci resolve.
I always wonder what actual work some of these RUclipsrs do besides RUclips videos promoting their channel with expert opinions. No offense but I truly wonder about this. They do not even have a website where you can their actual "professional" work with all their newest cameras, lights, computers and editing skills...? Or is it just me? Did you buy the Arri to film your RUclips videos?
I've edited almost exclusively on Resolve Studio (the paid version is absolutely where it's at) for the last couple years and never once regretted it. They've turned the whole industry subscription model on it's head. Better than Premier and FCP in every way.
Been hearing mixed reviews on 10bit and Davinci. I’m shooting on a Sony A7sIII, h.264 and shows up as offline on the Resolve free version. Been hearing to 1) buy the studio version to have the codec to work or 2) to convert to ProRes to use it in the free version. Any tips?
@@AnthonyPham I shoot in 10-bit 422 H.264 on a GH5 and found (as reported) that the video doesn’t display in the free version of resolve. I would batch convert my camera files to DNxHR with a script that uses the free ffmpeg utility, and this works quite well, but adds time and a lot of storage requirements to the workflow. I eventually bought a Black Magic camera and got the included Resolve Studio version which solved the problem. I also bought Final Cut Pro with an education discount, but haven’t used it as much as Resolve, although I would like to learn both tools to a good standard.
I made the switch in 2020 during the pandemic. It was something I definitely do not regret. I feel like I learn something new with it everyday, and even with the few crashes I have had, doesn't even come close to what I experienced on premiere pro.
Great video. Please don't sleep on the Fusion page. To avoid Gamma shift on exporting (if using a Mac) it's literally two clicks on the deliver page. Color Space Tag = P3-DCI and Gamma Tag = sRGB. Done. Don't bother going into any other settings. There are many RUclips videos out there that WAY overcomplicate it.
Using the free version of Davinci currently. New to video editing, and pretty happy with my progress so far. But I find the colour grading process to be the hardest thing to learn. Could be that there are just so many capabilities in the program and I'm searching for just the basics at this point.

Hey guys. Every tool is good in the right hands. Don't be a fool carried by every wind that blows. Learn the fundamentals of your craft and you will realize that its not the software but your knowledge.
As someone who knows how to use Premiere Pro like the back of their hand and has been using it for almost a decade now, is it actually worth switching over to DVR and starting from scratch? What's the learning curve and how long will it take to become at least productive using it. I have a lot of short film projects I'm doing and I can't have too much downtime. I am still exporting to fcpx to use your voice modulation on which I bought. Would be great if you could deliver one to resolve or show the process of how you work with audio in DR
Make the switch. It'll be weird for a while (especially if you're used to the magnetic timeline), but the amount of tools and control you have is incredible.
@@djepodjepo It's mainly a bunch of small things. The magic mask is incredible, the voice isolation tool is a life saver for audio, denoise for video is great, fusion (this really could be an entire essay, but it's really powerful). Not to mention all the things Matti listed like CSP. You can of course get these things in Final Cut Pro, but only through plugins. Having everything you could possibly need right there all in one software is just awesome. A lot of the features I mentioned are only in the studio version, but it's well worth the money.
What a beautiful program, or set of programs. Stuff like this makes me wish I had more reason to use it. I had a client tell me that he had basic but ongoing video work for me if I could do it. I took that as a reason to learn the program. My background is in 2D graphics and audio so this was a quick study for me. I got myself to the point where I was confident and asked for the work, but he never sent it. Then another client asked me if I could do some video work and I said, yes, yes, please send the work! But he never sent it. So my skills withered away from lack of use. But I love this software. I could have learned on Adobe software because I have Adobe CC, but I didn't like the workflow of Adobe Premiere. DaVinci Resolve made so much more sense to me. It's crazy that it can be had for free. Almost nothing of this level of quality can be had for free.
Hey, first of all thanks for valuable content. Congrats on your purchase. Arri is the best toy for any visual content creator) As far as color grading, specifically on this video skin color doesn’t look good. Your face is over saturated with reds. Practice makes you perfect. Best of luck!
The free version is not playing 10bit videos. Why not anyone is mentioning that??? Why every RUclipsr is soooo much into changing the workflow? Ps I love u Matti!! You are one of my favourites!!!!
I just ordered my first cinema first cam (fx30) coming from photo first (a7r4). Super excited to see where I can take it and have an amazing mentor that shoots for all sorts of professional applications. Does anyone know a good RUclips channel or good ways to fully learn Davinchi from the start? I know nothing about it. Also I use my iPad Pro for everything so will be editing on that as well! Thank you!!
So for your Sony footage, are you still using your custom camera settings (S Log 3 Gamma and S cinetone colors with +15 saturation) and your LUTs. Or have you now tweaked your camera settings back to normal and just using the color space transform? Just wondering if the new tools in Davinci has made you tweak any camera settings.
I’ve used DR a few times and it is so laggy and my system is setup for editing 8K. The colour page has always been the best as far as colour grading goes but the rest of it isn’t sufficient for even editing 4K 8bit footage.
I don't think I've ever seen someone use or need so many nodes! lol I'm gonna take a guess that much of that was part of a purchased powergrade pack maybe?
Oi m8. You can shoot in the new colour space and gamma on the mini LF. I'm like 90% sure it's out for everyone Don't sleep on it. Arris new reveal colour science is great, especially for coloured lights and bright saturated highlights
I know Matti is not the standard example of an editing software user but on how he expresses his excitement and satisfaction with Da Vinci, I know Adobe is shaking right now... hehe

Cool! Thanks for sharing it. ✌️
Would love to see you revisit Nikon with the recently announced Z8.
A lot of pretty crazy video specs!
Hey, first of all thanks for valuable content. Congrats on your purchase. Arri is the best toy for any visual content creator)
As far as color grading, specifically on this video skin color doesn’t look good.
I'll try this,, As soon as i get home 👌
Did you find out how to solve the problem with colors washed out when you use DaVinci on a Mac? I’m still confuse with Rec709, Rec709-A… 😩
I just ordered my first cinema first cam (fx30) coming from photo first (a7r4). Thank you!!
LOOOOOOL!!! THE NODES!!!!
I also plan to shift to Davinci soon, but for now I am happy with Premeir Pro free assets that people arround the world shared. 😉
I switched back to Premiere from Resolve 😅 … anyone else?
You’re not alone brother!! ✌️
Many creators going full steam into promoting DaVinci Resolve, there might be a huge paid DaVinci Resolve campaign in progress.
Welcome!
Oi m8. You can shoot in the new colour space and gamma on the mini LF. I'm like 90% sure it's out for everyone
Don't sleep on it. Arris new reveal colour science is great, especially for coloured lights and bright saturated highlights
Any tips for rendering settings in DaVinci? Dont know what is the problem but premiere pro renders better quality even when settings should be equal.
I bought the Speed Editor because is was only a little more than the license and came with the license. I was expecting gimmicky and I was so wrong.
I know Matti is not the standard example of an editing software user but on how he expresses his excitement and satisfaction with Da Vinci, I know Adobe is shaking right now... hehe
Cineprint 16 FTW! :)
I switched to Davinci from Premier 2 years ago coz it's free and I'm still using the version 17 for free and it's still work fine for me all until now 😁
yay finally more people on DaVinci Resolve let the creative things flow
Can you do a Davinci Color Grade tutorial like back in the days with Premiere ?
I'm still working on moving to Davinci myself after using Premier Pro for 10+yrs.
I want to go to Davinci, but I get every Adobe software for free including Premiere Pro from my school should I still switch? 🤔
