This could not have come at a better time. I have needed to buy a laptop recently for college and I was talking to people about mac or windows and settled for mac. Have been holding off because I was not certain and did not want to regret my decision and now I get this. I have watched you for a few years and enjoy your content. This has helped alot thank you.
Thanks for the tips, Valentina ~ I’ve had my Mac Pro for about a year (since they put in the M1). I’ve had glitches in Logic but found that freezing tracks helped a lot.
With the newer macs I’ve been getting beach balls in logic and final cut. It has happened multiple times and I’ve returned 2 systems because of it. I just stopped using final cut and use davinci and premiere. Apple can’t seem to pinpoint it either so I kept one system from them and built a monster PC and couldn’t be more happy. I use both systems but my Pc is my workhorse. I just use them both just as much. The PC is the better bang for your buck but if you just want to be on the go then the max It’s worth it. Not really for price but good to travel with
What laptop would you recommend other then this one, if you want opt for a different brand? Perhaps a little less expensive without too much of a compromise …
Thank you, yes I'm been up in the air with getting the 14 or 16 but yeah 14" is the way for me too because of traveling. Thanks again for your great content.. God bless you...
Now I’m in market for a new MacBook m1 max and I’m still wondering whether to get the 14 or 16. I would save some money on 14 and on the other hand my concern is, is there a performance, fan noise difference between the two. Any idea? I’m running fairly large sessions (almost every session is around 100+ tracks). In my current MacBook I have to try so many times to get the session played properly. (Even after freezing some tracks) so I would really like someone’s opinion on this.
HEY, I really enjoy your videos and watching and gaining all these new tips. I'm taking music production in highschool, but I'm wondering what tools, midi keyboard, equipment you recommend!
nice video right to the point, that mi chip is a dream it seams for producers and video editors I have the m 1 in my iPad, and I have a 2017 mbp for logic fcp photoshop etc I'm not very data extensive in my art flow so the 2017 is still a keeper for me ,
Logic can run outside of Rosetta, it’s some third party plugins that are still incompatible, so in order to use them in logic, you have to enable Rosetta. Thanks for watching!
Never had the Sand Ball on a 2023 M2 PRO make sure you don’t have any background tabs open on your top task bar as Logic Pro X is my main daw with a UA Apollo X6 Heritage edition UI.😎
The higher the specs, the more you future proof yourself obviously. That being said, for people who want a decent option for music making, at a lower price: any of the first M1 machines (Mac mini, MB Air MB Pro) will get you a long way. I have a 2021 MBP 13" with 16gb of ram and I can say it works great. In general I have about 10 to 15 tracks max, audio, VST's and then a bunch of effects on top, no problem at all.Just try to get as much ram as possible or as much as you can afford. If you are not making and editing video's, or doing other graphic heavy tasks, anything above an M1 Pro is overkill for most music production (with the exception maybe for massive orchestral templates). If I would be buying a new MacBook now, I'd probably go for a 14" M1 Pro because you have the option to go higher with the ram, and have the extra ports. Also, thank you for the clear review Valentina!!
If you like logic and final cut the apple computer is the best of the best. But if you use other software I'd say go for PC as M1 causes issues with anything that's not Apple/ external plugs currently and it's been that way for years. I think they are worth the money but it's 400+ for 500gb of SSD space, that's a big setback which really puts me off. Problem with apple is its old tech the day you buy it and you have to buy a complete new computer 4 years later so your always paying them off forever no escaping it. Aside that the macbook pro m1max or ultra is amazing for Logic, the best of the best
I have a full time career outside of music. But thankfully, I’ve been able to build a solid income through my music as well. Save money, get stuff and gear that actually makes an impact to your creativity/workflow :)
Great vid! I noticed very quickly with my maxed out i9 laptop from 2019 that while you might be able to futureproof your gear for a few years, you can’t futureproof the resale value. That computer was almost 3k new and today I couldn’t get anyone to even look at it for $900. Obviously things depreciate and maybe it’s just me but imo Apple products just plunge.
their 2019 intel macbook lineup was really shitty. constant fan noise, poor heat management, wrong side of headphone jack (wtf), shitty touchbar everyone hated it.. i have the 2019 i7 fully spec'd for work and everyday I want to throw it out the window. I expect the new M1/M2 to hold up their value for much longer.
So chances are your 2017 IMAC did not have a SSD drive in it. I recently upgraded my 2017 with a SSD Drive and the 64 gigs of ram that you have and the performance is night and day different. I think by doing that I can get another few years of life out of my IMAC, and not have to deal with Rosetta, and compaility issues.
Good video. Personally, I have no intentions of getting one of those as I need Mojave to use 32 bit plugins, and that can’t even be installed. You can’t run 32 bit plugins through Rosetta right? Apple are so restrictive.
This is unrelated to this video, but I have a question about recording vocals. In one tutorial u say that u record with your effect stack so u can tailor the performance to the track more accurately, but wouldn’t that create a bunch of latency? Is there a way to hear the effects as you perform without the latency? I know about low latency mode, but I want to hear the effects as I record, so I’m not sure that will help.
6 months later, here are my thoughts! Lmk if you have any specific questions :)
Literally tracking shipping of mine now,
Curious do the fans ever come on?
I'm getting the 32GB Ram, 10 Core/ 32 GPU core model..
Thank you - there are very few producers on RUclips covering this. Appreciate it

That last bit about the size and the issues in planes is super helpful. Haven't heard anyone else mention that before. Thank you!!
Glad I could help :)

Congrats! You’re gonna love it
loving my m1 mini. waiting for the m2! thanks.

Freezing tracks is for computers without sufficient power. For this money apple could have made way better product and os
Love my 16" M1 Macbook Pro. Enjoyed video.☀

I Cant Wait For The M2 Mac Pro Thanks For The video

What does happen when you try to record with plugins across the mixer? Nasty delay?

I pretty much have this exact model. I upgraded from a 2012 MacBook Pro. Definitely worth the price.
💯

Thanks! How far tech has come is pretty crazy.
Thank you! Someone told me that this machine gets very hot when it is on a heavy duty. How true is it?
I haven’t experienced that at all and in fact the only time I’ve heard the fans turn on has been twice while exporting a long video.
I was surprised to learn that Logic has to run on Rosetta since it's an Apple product. Great video!

Do you still you use Apple MacBook M1 max?
How long will this machine lastbfor music production?

Good point, I just got a M1 studio and it was $900 off RRP
Do you use a specific hub thunderbolt 4?

@@zeus1117 Logic Pro, Reason and GarageBand, but you have to be on Mojave or an older operating system. I think there’s others that do as well.

I ordered the maxed out 16”. So excited for it to get here! Dope review!
I tried it & it choked. I had to return for studio.
