I've been a Mets fan since 1971. Trade Alonso, Marte, Bader, McNeil(someone will take him if you eat enough of his contract), and the pitchers. Do you remember 1986, when Jessie Orosco helped get the Mets to only their second WS title? Do you know how they obtained him when they traded 35-year-old lefty Jerry Koosman to the Twins? Orosco was in A ball when they got him.
@@fr2ncm9 from the sounds of it, the Mets need to blow up and start over. You can say a 35 year old is the reason the won the World Series, I could say an error from bill Buckner is why they won the WS
I agree with Don. It's not about getting a wildcard spot. Every true Met fan who's been following this team, and watches the games, knows even if they get in the playoffs, they will choke and lose. JD Martinez will have to have a season like he did with the Diamondbacks, and literally carry this team on his back in order to get there, and can you imagine what would happen if he gets injured? The entire offense would stop hitting, and you'll get the same team you saw this May, and last June. The team is rotten to the core, and you have to start over. Do it ASAP.

The statement about only 10-11 teams are over .500 are what baseball wants isn't it? I mean you have five teams that are already out of it, Oakland, the Angels, Marlins, Rockies and of course the White Sox are hideous then you have a bunch that are a few games under that seem to get close and then fall back but do they all suck? I mean baseball in the days of NO WILDCARD you were out of it sometimes in May and here and there you would have a battle of two teams going for that spot while the rest of the teams phoned it in, now that time of Baseball is over, most feel they can hang around and make that call come mid July, I disagree with dealing Alonso now in June thats crazy to think any team is parting with top notch prospects for a guy who is a rental because his agent has said he will not sign, similar to what SOTO has. I think come mid July see where you are, the reason the Mets have 1 yr deals is if they have to shed them they will if they can ride them into a little run they will and lose them in Free Agency or who knows they keep one or two of them. But you just have to wait it out, unless someone knocks you down with an offer but WHO warrants that? Harrison Bader? Jeff McNiel? Marte? Who is trading you anything for that? I mean teams like the Dodgers, Yankees, Orioles and other front runners don't need that on their team, so the reality is if you are close in the WC then teams that might ask, are teams you are running with which makes no sense that you'd deal to them.
The only way they will get something good in return for Alonso is if they include him in a larger deal. Teams like the Mariners have virtually no offense. I'd gladly send them there if we could get Matt Brash and a prospect like Logan Evens, Tyler Gough or Johnny Farmelo.
I wanted to trade Alonso at the end of 2021 because I felt they needed young pitching to return to being a contender. I was told that I was nuts. Alonso was never able to carry this team. If they had traded him in 2021, they could have gotten a Juan Soto type of package in return.
