- Former Army Captain Larry Taylor was awarded the Medal of Honor last week by President Biden at the White House. Ahead of the ceremony, he spoke to NBC News’ Courtney Kube about his decision to defy an order from his commander in order to save lives in Vietnam.

Thank you for this broadcast. Felt privileged to watch last weeks ceremony and award metal 🥇 distinction. So many hero’s have never been recognized, especially from the Vietnam War. Better late thank never! Thanking all of the service men and women for their service to our nation.,

So, I served in the Army in the early-80s in Germany. Tensions at the time were **very** high between the US and the Warsaw Pact.
I served as a tank crewman on the very first generation of M1 Abrams tanks and patrolled the Trace [the Iron Curtain] with an Armored Cavalry Regiment. My regiment's mission if the balloon went up to delay Pact forces for as long as possible in order to give NATO units time to deploy. It was understood that there was a very good likelihood that we would be given a 'die in place' order if that's what it took.
And every single grunt, treadhead and gun-bunny [infantryman, tanker, and artilleryman] knew that it was gonna be the Cobras, Loaches, and Warthogs that were gonna save us, if any of us were to be saved at all. We might talk smack about each other [we called chopper crews 'blender-heads'] but we were all very aware that if War Three jumped off, we were all in the same boat. We had a lot of respect for one another.
If he hadn't have picked them up...he'd live with the fact of wondering what happened to those men and how he may have helped. Anyone with any kind of conscience would have trouble living with it. Other people wouldn't care.

It was shameful and disrespectful in my opinion on how Biden wandered out of the room immediately, before the benediction. Biden should have gave this man the full honors he deserves.

Too bad this mans courageousness and honorable heart got kind of lost and mixed up in the vitriol of today's politics. Anyways, alot of men owe this man a debt that can never be repaid it sounded like. Hes an angel to some and glad society recognized this soldier. Unfortunate that this moment was used politically just before Biden had that conference in Vietnam.

One thing that was not forgotten and by other cobra pilots and later Apache pilot that it can be done and even made a harness for someone to ride outside look on RUclips there is a video clip from a US AirForce B1B that shot video of two British marines riding outside of a Apache helicopter Afghanistan trying to go back to rescue somebody left behind in a fire fight the B1B what the crew was saying was caught on the video they where absolutely stunning what they were watching
