- Hey Yall! In this video I am trying the new Olaplex product! Olaplex number 8! I used it in place of my TGIN deep conditioner and my reaction is...interestingly funny LOL. Just so you know, I used Olaplex no. 8 after I used Olaplex no. 0, Olaplex no. 3, Olaplex no. 4 and Olaplex no. 5. So youre results may vary.
I was almost sold until I realized that No. 5 has a higher concentration of the active ingredient compared to No. 8??? Also if you go the Sephora website between No. 5 and No 8, only No. 5 says that it's suitable for TIGHTLY coiled hair. It also has silicones which can be divisive in the curly/coily community. Tbh Id rather throw some No. 0 in my TGIN mask and call it a day 😂
OH WOW!! This information is a GAME CHANGER. That is probably why my hair got really frizzy after I washed it out. Thank you for sharing!!! I'm with you on mixing Olaplex with another product. I'm about todo that as well HAHAH. Great minds!
Ooooo, thanks for this! I was trying to figure out which one to go with. I'm going with the regular conditioner. I heard it had more slip anyway.
Really appreciate your honesty!!! Thanks
Got to be! Thank you for the comment!
I used olaplex 0,3,4,5,6 and 7 strictly for 16 months because of postpartum shedding - IT WORKED but when my child turned 18 mos, I noticed my hair felt weird to the touch. I'm guessing there is a thing called "olaplex overload"? I don't know🤷🏽♀️ but I corrected it using the detox kit from curlsmith. I now only use the 0 and 3 and alternate it with curlsmith bond salve every other wash day. Like you said, less is more!
I agree totally! I only use OLAPLEX once a month because I only wash my hair once a month, but after doing the whole OLAPLEX line on my hair this passed wash day, my hair was feeling weird just like you were saying. Maybe I will do a video on that. But yeah after this passed wash day I only see myself doing 0,3,4,5. I should look into curlsmith! Thank you for your comment! ❤️
Great video! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Honestly I am on my second go of number 8 and I am not impressed. I will say that using a deep conditioning electric heat cap did help the second time. Once this is gone I will probably go back to using number 5 as a deep conditioner
You can use your regular deep conditioner this system is solely for repairing the bond’s in the hair even though it says you can use it every wash day that is only if you have a lot of damage. A mask is like a deep conditioner but it works more intensely than the deep conditioners.
I love olaplex but now I’m only going to be replacing 3,4,5,6. I tried no8 a few times but yeah I was feeling like it’s no better than the no 5
AGREED! I think 0,3,4,5 are my only staples. I tried 6 once, but I’m still skeptical. Do you use it as a leave in?
I tend to use the no6 on damp hair as a leave in. I tried it with the no7 mixed it was alright and I tried
It on dry hair but didn’t like it as much
😅 hilarious video
I returned no 8. To Sephora....It made my hair dry and frizzy. No 3, shampoo, conditioner, oil, and the styling cream is all I use. No 8 also smells like miracle whip and I can’t get past it and my hair looked awful. Plus I have long hair and one pump didn’t do anything on my hair...🤦🏻♀️ my opinion is to just use no 3 if you want a hair mask.
Girl! I agree! I have to make a follow up video because the more I think about it, the more I realize it really was a fail 😂😂😂 LOL thank you for your comment!
Also no3 has the bond treatment as the first ingredient where no 8 it is not. I am using olaplex for that main reason of the bond testament. so I can just mix no3 with a regular hair mask for cheaper and better results. 😊
@@CSondie wow! Very smart! I was thinking the same thing! But was worried if I’d just mess up my hair LOL! Have you tried that before or not yet?!
@@AnnaBelise yes I have put no 3 on my hair with another hair mask and it was really good! I coated my hair in olaplex 3 first then went in with the other conditioner and left it in overnight! Hair was ultra soft and silky. I was so disappointed in the no 8!!! Left my hair dry, frizzy and an odd texture...
@@CSondie okay I’m going to try that too! Thank you so much 😊
Wait what did it do to your hair at the beginning of the video?
Hey sis! If you are referring to me showing my hair in the beginning of the video, I was showing the aftermath of Olaplex 0,3,4,5. It defines my curls so much! If you are referring to my initial thoughts of Olaplex no. 8 while in my hair, I was saying how my hair felt super soft after having it in for 20 min. BUT after I washed it out, it was ehhh to me. I hope this helps!
@@AnnaBelise thanks for elaborating lol I bought the 0, 3, & 5 because of you, I didn’t really see a difference but I’ll use it again next month to see if anything changes! I really appreciate your videos 😄
@@lifewithakunna Really?! What's your hair characteristics if you don't mind me asking. I'm 4C, low porosity and have very fine strands. So for me, Olaplex just makes my hair really soft and it defines my curls..but It also feels stronger after I use it.
@@AnnaBelise I’m definitely 4c I haven’t investigated if I’m low porosity or not (but I assume so because my hair stays white for a while after putting in product) and I haven’t looked into my hair strand thickness 😅 but I’ll figure that out soon lol. I guess my hair felt soft but it usually does (unless I have a protective style in for a minute) and my curls had the same definition (maybe a little tighter but my hair was still shrunken). I was filming the process but it was a fail 😂
@@lifewithakunna LOL!!!! I so related to the filming being a fail. I filmed me using no. 6 and 7 and it was a fail! But back to hair. Yeah I don't have like extremely damaged hair so I only see subtle changes not major. Olaplex actually said that too. Like if you have damaged hair you will see the most results. But I just use it for maintenance and I definitely saw changes in my curl definition.
