- In this week's video we're talking all about our move from Canada to the Dominican Republic for the winter. It's our first ever Christmas away from Canada and we're going to be like "Snowbirds" this year and entirely escape the Canadian winter while making Cabarete, Dominican Republic our new home.

In the video we give you a first glimpse of Cabarete, including the beach, the town and our apartment. We walk around and discuss how we got to the position of being able to slow travel. We go back into our story of quitting our jobs and setting ourselves up to work remotely and travel more.
We make a couple of stops along the way for Mojitos at a bar called Voy Voy and also delicious ice cream at Bon.
We also discuss upcoming videos which will include a lot more of Cabarete, the North Coast of the Dominican Republic, cost of living in the Dominican Republic and so much more.

It was so interesting to watch your reaction to the Bon ice cream, I am Dominican and grew up eating this ice cream, the ice cream shop was founded in 1972 here in DR, since then it expanded all over the country. I am glad you guys loved it🤲

I'm Dominican and let me tell you tourists get protected very well in that part of DR. That's near Puerto Plata... Enjoy.
My girlfriend and I are from and Canada and went to DR in early November 2021 and have already booked our trip back in March. I absolutely love Republica Dominicana beautiful country and people. We both could wish we could live there. Hope you both enoy your warm winter!

@@PSRB-b covid has not been around for 2 years. maybe 1 year and 6 months when they started lock downs. But they were off and on. Thought you were in china or another planet.

Hello delightful travelers I love the DR. We visited Punta Cana 🖤💚💛love guys. Look forward to exploring with you.
If you want to try something amazing in Cabarete area, drive east only a few KM past Cabarete. Look for a sign at a bridge that says "Wilsons Jungle Cruise" or something like that. It's right at the first yellow bridge on your way out of town. You will get on a boat for 500 peco's and they take you to Wilson's restaurant. It was one of the most fun experiences we had in the north coast . Well worth it!

@@DelightfulTravellers - my husband is Filipino, I'm American. We arrived in Manila this past August. Filipinos and their spouse are allowed in the Philippines. It has not opened to other travelers yet, but they are promising it will open "soon".

Re: Christmas away from home..... that has always been my dream, to celebrate Christmas on a beach. Well, this year we are escaping our Northern NB winter and are heading to Playa del Carmen, Mexico for Christmas! So excited to finally check this off my bucket list.

Cabarete has a really great vibe, tough to capture in a video but maybe you know how. Our favorite thing after the beach is the restaurants, amazing and the variety is a bit surprising.
You are living our slow travel dreamzzz! We have spent a few Christmases away from family, but our fav was exploring Paris and going to Disneyland (Paris).

Hello fellow NSer! We'll have a 'Cost of Living' video coming out in the next few weeks. But it all comes down to what you define as 'best'. For us, 'Altice' has a 30 day plan (15gb) which works great. About 1/3 the cost of a Nova Scotia Plan. There are less expensive plans but you have to top them up physically in store every 5 days or so. We didn't want to go that route. That's what we know so far 😀- Trevor

Amazing way to live. Hey Trevor, you're learning more Spanish. That's awesome. Ana can practice, too. I don't remember If I said before, but you should definitely visit "Bahía de las Aguilas". It's a 5 hours trip to get there from Santo Domingo. I think it's a National Park, so you don't have buildings, and you get to the beach only on a boat. I really enjoy your travelling experiences. Keep on going and have the best time in DR. A big hug from Argentina!

This is awesome...this is our plan as well we'll be there in about 2 months...we love Cabarete...check out Casita de Papi for a tasty beachfront dinner with lobster and shrimp (garlic, coconut cream and curry🤤😋) check out Vagamundo for breakfast/brunch and The Honey Company... so many great things to do there...all the best on your journey...maybe we'll run into you guys when we are there...

Make sure to go white water rafting in Jarabacoa. It's the only place in the Caribbean where that's possible. If you have time Constansa is one of my favorite places to visit. I'm Dominican and my honeymoon was in both these places.
One of my best friends, a 27 year old American who was a resident of the Dominican Republic drowned in Cabarete last Thursday. I highly recommend you take extra precautions while swimming in or around Cabarete's beaches.
We're so sorry to hear that. There was a huge storm here last Thursday and the ocean was absolutely insane. The beaches are normally not like that here
Great video ! I’m from New Brunswick . Ive been to DR many times but have been thinking about spending a few months a year there ( the cold ones) Ive looked at Las terrenas and Sousa. I like the idea of beach front with a town or small city with good restaurants, shopping and an easy link to other areas. Keep up the great informative videos, eh …
