  • Recently, after shopping, my car failed to start, stranding me in a parking lot. I asked a fellow customer if they could help with a jump using my jumper cables. Instead he pulled out a tiny jump starter that he kept in his car. It easily started my car. I was so impressed by the power generated by this device that I bought one, and in this video I will put it to the test and check out other features. The jump starter/ power bank is an Imazing model 27, available on Amazon.

    A very useful review as it pointed out some of the problems you can have when using a jump starter.

    I have the larger one of these and I wish it had an override function like other units, such as the Gooloo, Hulkman, etc. Had I known this I never would have purchased the Imazing. I am happy to see it will start a car at 6V though. I though the limit was 8V.

      I know, but under most circumstances a battery will not be discharged all the way to below 6 volts. I did it by deliberately overloading the battery.

      @@TheOriginalMechanic I heard that this may work from 4-6 volts. I have a newer Subaru and while loading up for camping the day before I clicked on the rear compartment light. I didn't have this then so I couldn't test it. Also, some cars like Toyotas will not run if the computer finds the battery low. Even if you jump it. It happened to me on 3 different models.

    Thats exactly the problem with that unit. The green light can be difficult to come on even with a good connection. You have to jiggle it around. It would have jumped on that 1st attempt. It is very difficult to get that green light to stay on, but if you can get that green light to come on the unit works very well

    Nice review. The first test with the battery at 1.4V and then at 6V was a good test. I suspect the cutoff is at 3V where it won't jump start. I don't know why they didn't just add the boost function for when the battery is really dead.. You could simulate a no battery start by tricking the jump starter. Loosen the positive battery wire so it can be lifted off the terminal but leave it in on the terminal. Connect the jump-starter to the battery wires and when the light turns green, life the positive wire (leaving jump starter connected) from the battery . The light should stay green and start the vehicle. This way the jump starter doesn't get any assistance from the battery.

      That trick is something I had not heard of and now I want to try it. Thanks for watching and sharing the tip!

      @@TheOriginalMechanic It did had good reviews not on Amazon anymore. BTW by chance i used it yesterday on a stranded motorist couldnt get her car to start. I had used it on my car two weeks ago after changing the starter and leaving the car in the ignition and it worked. I wonder why i couldnt get her car started? Her bro came and gave her a jump started right away.

    is jump starting a car bad for the car battery or alternator? i'm having to jump start mine every month since i don't drive alot, and it seems to have some trouble starting sometimes.

    • @TheOriginalMechanic
      @TheOriginalMechanic  Год назад +1

      I'm not aware of that kind of risk in using a jump starter. But letting a battery sit in a discharged condition too much will cause sulfites to build up and shorten the battery life. An option is to use a battery charger that has a maintenance function and keep it hooked up to your battery during those down times. You don't need to disconnect the battery, just clamp on the terminals.

    • @thelog86
      @thelog86 7 месяцев назад +1

      Im in the same situation. What you need to do is get a trickle charger. You leave it connected to your car and it automatically keeps your battery charged, it operates by going on and off when it detects your battery has gone down to a certain level and it will automatically charge it up to the proper charger

      I would think so. That's what I'm doing. I'll check the charge every now and then but I want it right there when I need it.

    I just tried jump starting a car in a parking lot at 68% ( i had never used it) and it never got the green light. The starter was ticking but it wasnt enough to start the car.😢 Then i used my cables and the car started right away. Im quite dissappointed by this thing.

    • @TheOriginalMechanic
      @TheOriginalMechanic  9 месяцев назад +1

      As long as you had good contact, 68% certainly should have been enough to start, even a truck. Either the display was inaccurate and it wasn't really at 68% or maybe the battery was below 3 or 4 volts. This unit will not get the green light on a battery that is too far discharged. That is one issue I discovered with this unit.

      @@TheOriginalMechanic it kinds of defeats the whole purpose of having peace of mind by carrying the thing.

    • @thelog86

      Its enough to start it. These units have a defect getting that green light to come on is an issue. Just like you said you will get a clicking noise. And that clicking is that green light going off and on. I believevthey have faulty internal wiring and it shorts out. Just my opinion. It will work if you fiddle around with it long enough

      Strange, maybe you have a bad unit. I’ve used it to on my Subaru and my work van with completely dead battery without issue. The work van had a bad cell and it still started right up without issue 2 times on the same charge before I could get to the auto parts store. First time it was at full charge and the second time it was at 70% due to using it to charge my laptop.

    Junk. Stopped working after couple uses.
    No customer service at all. Purchased mine on Amazon and even they can't help me contact seller. After two months, multiple emails no answer.
    People would give it 5 stars review even though they state that they haven't try it yet, I will never understand that.
    Save yourself a headache and get different brand.
