Nice hammer Dan. If you want to stop that hammer head from loosening apply some loctite type wicking grade of thread locker. It penetrates deep swells the wood fills small gaps then sets hard. I have been using it for years but I don't work a hammer as hard as you do.😉
Looking good! Liking the series so far! Would love to see a snippet on how youd adjust the technique for different hammer styles. (Cross pein, diagonal pein, ball pien....and of course the shoe turning hammer)
I've wondered if drifting a round hole would then go oval when you flatten the cheeks. Thanks for confirming that! Another super informative video, Dan!
Awesome video! Very helpful! The only thing I think might be good is maybe getting a microphone? I found it a little hard to understand you as you are forgeing but could guess the word from the rest of the sentence so not a huge deal. Any way looking forward to the next video!
Broken by_distiny your quite right it would be quicker but there are some issues with drill it. The eye needs to be ovel for the pole of the hammer handle and as there is no swelling round the hole you wouldn't be able to make it ovel. Also forging a hole like this improves the grain around the eye qualitys that a hammer must have. This is why most hammers you buy from The shops are forged with a punched eye that is longer in one direction that the other. So no drilling isn't better just leaves you with the an inferia hole that is the wrong shape.
Daniel Moss thank you for for telling me that keep up the good work you are amazing blacksmith and I see each one of your videos its so much fun watching you work with iron and fire
A punch slug is also called a biscuit. Great video
I like the white board demo. It helps to see what is going on, or at least how its supposed to go.
Nice job, Dan the step by step videos are the best, Thanks for doing this.
Hi Dan. Been busy working so I'm just getting around to watching. Great job at making a hard job look easy. :-)
What about demonstrating a diagonal pein hammer?
Very nice Dan! Look forward to the rest of the videos.
Great video Dan, thanks!

That never gets old, thanks for the video Dan.that was awesome. Can't wait to see the whole process and how you do it.👍👍 🔨 on!!
what steel is that ? Mild steel is ok , or something special for hammer ? thanks for the lesson !
Most excellent.
Excellent video. My next project is going to be to try to forge a hammer. Do you anneal the fork truck tine before you start?
I don't have a traditional anvil with a hardy or a swage block. How would you drift the hole without a hardy?
Thanks
I like this a lot Dan. You make it look easy! 😊
I've seen some online that say forklift tines are mild steel. Is that accurate? I would have expect them to be a fairly high quality steel.
Perfect timing. My next project was to forge a hammer. Very well done step by step video.
Do you anneal the fork truck truck tine before forging?
How do you make the eye tool
Looking good Dan
Hi mate great vid 👍
Dan whats the matetial you use for the hammer drift and the eye drift (the long one) is it h13 or something different, thanks

Nice looking little hammer sir.
Hey Dan how big is your power hammer.
sally whitwell she is a 3cwt which is 152k or 304lbs ish! Her total weight with anvil is just under 5 tones. Hope that helps?
What size should the eye be on a hammer
S&S Smithing about 1 1/4in to 1 1/2in across the faces by 3/4in to 1in in the width for a hammer from 2lbs to 4lbs ish.
Daniel Moss ok thanks Dan been trying to figure out everything for doing hammers sizes for eyes punches and drifts I've been having problems finding
Hammering hammers how awesome
how about you you drill the eye off the hammer by drill press its much eseyer dont you thank save you lots of time
