Tis good advice short tipped rods generally fish just fine, very hard to sell them though.

Hi, I have a 3 piece bamboo rod with two extra tips(they all match perfectly in construction and color). I purchased on ebay years ago it was advertized as never being used and by the looks of it I would say that is true. The fly rod is a Montague Lake Pleasant and It was a cheap rod in it's day, it has a horrible quailty grip and reel seat and the female ferrule on the butt section was rapped completely in thread hiding a crack, my guess is the manufacturer did this knowing the weakness of the cheap ferrules. I would like to replace the grip, reel seat and butt section ferrule so any advice would be appreciated.

What about if the blank has a ferrule into the handle and reel seat? Like the handle and reel seat are a separate section is there anything that can be done there? Maybe cutting off the ferrule and seating it like a regular rod?

That’s how it happens. Have seen multiple 2-5 thousand dollar rods at garage sales around trout rivers or anywhere really

@@ToniBoordane Considering Garrison only made about 620 rods in his life time. and the last one i saw being sold on the internet went for a little over 21 thousand. I doubt Grand Pa had one stuck in his garage.
That's like finding a Faberge' Egg in your attic.

@@patrickhill2258 more than just Garrison’s go for absurd prices. I’m in bidding wars right now for a few bamboo fly rods of very modest manufacturers and they don’t stop. All you need is two people.

@@ToniBoordane I fish the Catskills, that's where most of high end rod builders were way back when. I go to garage sales, flea markets. I would Love to see a Leanord or a Payne in pretty good shape even an Orvis or an Edwards. All i find are busted up Montague, HI or South Bend occasionaly I've found a Heddon in fair condition with a 500-700 price tag like it's a #50 President but in reality a BB.
I would LOVE to know where you go garage selling😂 And when they have a high end like a Winston or FE Thomas, do they know what it is?
