- This isn't everything you'll ever need to know about caring for fading kittens but it should get you off to a good start. If you have any questions you are welcome to contact me for more help. Please remember that my advice as an experienced foster mom is not a replacement for the advice of a veterinarian.
EDIT: You can use this diy electrolytes recipe to replace the Pedialyte if you don't have any: 1/4 teaspoon of table/sea salt with 8 oz of water.

🔸️PLEASE READ BEFORE COMMENTING🔸️
▪️If you have a Fading Kitten, follow the instructions as closely as you can.
▪️It's okay to make substitutions like honey or maple syrup instead of the Karo I use. It okay if you don't have all of the things I mentioned. The most important things are keeping them warm and raising their blood sugar.
▪️If you don't have access to things like sub-q fluids, that's okay. Just focus on keeping them warm and raising their sugar levels. These are the two most important things.
▪️You can make your own electrolytes solution by mixing 1/4 teaspoon of table/sea salt with 8 oz of water.
▪️If you don't have access to kitten formula you can use goats milk. Please only use cows milk in an absolute pinch and make the switch to kitten formula or goats milk asap (eg: if you find a tiny stray and the stores are closed, get the right milk asap).

I read you have to be careful with to much zinc for a cat. To much can be fatal although it’s a vital nutrient. Zinc is also added to pedialyte. So how much is recommended for a kitten?
:/ mine just passed in my arms while looking this up... It's important to accept that some fading kittens are beyond saving. all you can do in these situations is comfort the little guys and make the passing as easy as possible for them. even a dying kitten deserves loving pets. he fought hard, and I'm proud of him.

I knew when we got our babies that their chances were not good. I have bottle fed kittens before with success, but these were literally "days" old when we got them. They were doing good (eating, energetic, and purring) for a full week. But then started spiralling one by one. The hardest part is hearing them purr and you think you are doing good, and then they turn on a dime. Thank you for your words of encouragement at the end of this video. Although it made me cry, it was good to hear/read the purring for someone for a little while part. It's heartbreaking even if only for a week.

I followed your instructions in addition to force feeding a combination of KMR and wet food in a syringe. When I picked her up from a foster I thought she was dead. Then I felt a slight pulse. I spent the night with her on my chest with a blanket and heating pad. She is not out of the woods yet but she is walking around now. I am crying tears of joy. Thank you for addressing this topic ❤️🙏

Had this happen last night. She just had them and found one away from her and cold. Tried to save but she was taking her last breaths already and I wasn't knowledgeable enough on everything.

I lost my 8week old kitten Adobo just 2 days after we adopted him. Heart wrenching, we all felt like we could have done more. Brought him to ER animal hospital and vet told us he won't last. I wish I could have seen more videos like this. Love and miss him.

It worked! My 1 month old kitten was in excruciating pain for several hours, I was ready to let her go but I couldn't bear to see her in pain so I looked up online and found this video. I tried the first dose with maple syrup and she blinked, I became hopeful so I continued and to my surprised it really worked 😭😭😭😭😭 im so grateful for this video

This is the best and most comprehensive information on FKS that I've ever seen. I was fostering three 2-day old kittens and one by one they passed away but it wasn't for lack of me implementing everything I knew to do. This video confirmed that I did my best and I will definitely be saving this as well as passing it on to other foster parents. Thank you!

I want to thank you SO MUCH for this video. I followed it to a T and little Zara is still here with me today. It felt like it was never going to work and she just laid there lifeless for hours but I stuck with it (and I prayed a lot). I didn't stop the 3 minute intervals until 4am when she finally looked up at me and meowed a tiny mew mew. It was the most incredible feeling. It works! Today my Kitten was going through this, so I quickly searched up this video and started following the steps. Even though I didn’t have anything in the video I had to make do of what I had. No vets wanted to take her in so I hope my baby will be a survivor!!

She has her mom with her and now is drinking plenty of milk . Thank you guys for putting out such important information. We just had two of our three kittens pass from this, we didn’t find this syndrome until today and the last kitten is now unconscious, but luckily still eating when he wakens up. I have him in a burrito now, and am waiting for my wife to get home with Karo, pedelyte, and a syringe. I really hope this works, the last two passing in our arms have destroyed us. 😭
Such an informative video, thanks for making this! Sadly lost one of our fosters this morning. Best way to treat FKS is to prevent it, if possible. Know your kitten’s behaviors and personality well...even minor abnormalities could indicate some serious health issue. Thank you to all foster parents ❤️

I tried to save my 11 days old kitten she has been suffering for 6 hours. I gave her milk before 10 hours ago she was healthy and after she started to get weakened time by time and she stopped feeding due to breathing problem and then she started to get cold and died. I tried everything i could help her but failed and i cried.

Sometimes it's just the process of Nature for one to die. Remember that for every beautiful working innovation that made a cat so perfect, hundreds of thousands at least were born wrong somehow and just couldn't thrive. If you raise animals sometimes one will just die, no matter what you do. Sometimes it'll even be the best one, or the only female, or the biggest sweetie, and it's hard not to just shut down and quit.

I am currently nursing 4 kittens right now. They are a total of 7 kittens but during birth 2 died and this morning 1 of the kitten died due to hypoglycemia. By watching your video I have high hopes to save others.

I’m currently dealing with this, I’m following the instructions and he finally able to pick up his head all by himself!! He has my heating pad at the bottom of his stomach, it not very big though. I gave him sugar, pedialyte, and his heating pad! Everything is going okay but I’m waiting for my vet to open up so I can take him. I hope he makes it!

Thank God for your video. 😭🙏🏻💝 Yesterday, after my kitten ate her normal food and taken medication for her antifungal then after few minutes, she vomited and becamve very weak. When we took her to the vet, the doctor said that shes dying already and no gurantee she will surivive with + coronavirus. She was not moving but breathing. Her eyes are moving dilating. We were so heartbroken. I know she is fighting! Then I came across your video. Followed step by step procedures per minute. I used 240cc water with 1/4 tsp himalayan salt and 3tbs of Honey. This morning she ate her normal food and very much alive. ❤❤❤

If anyone is going through this, try giving the kitten pure maple syrup. Rub it in the roof of their mouths and tongue. Make sure they are warm. If you need to breathe into their fur to keep them warm, do so for 20 mins. Warm some water and sugar and feed it to the kitten with a syringe. After about 30 mins they will start to show vital signs. Keep giving them syrup every 15 mins and through the night, even if they look better. Pray over them and have faith ❤. I was able to save 2 kittens that were on the verge of death this way.

fcukmadss 101, It doesn't have to be organic if you don't have it on hand, although organic is best. The Karo syrup I talk about in the video is just a think corn syrup. You can also use maple syrup or honey if it's all you have on hand. The point is just to raise their blood sugar as hypoglycemia is a common cause for Fading Kitten

I am so thankful I found this video on time. My 6 week kitten was suffering from constipation due to worm. Vet is not easily available in our place yet i manage to find one who gave deworming tablet and laxative to clear her poop. After givinh laxative she suffered dehydration. I had to perform enema twice to get her poop out. She became so weak. I followed your instructions and fed her orally for 3 days continuously. Gave her Subcutaneous fluid once. Didnt have butterfly needle so gave her directly from syringe. Finally she is fine now after 3 weeks of struggle. Thank you so much

Thank you sooo much!! My 6 days old orphaned kitten was unresponsive and completely lifeless for 4 whole hours, I tried CPR and kept pumping his chest to no avail, I kinda started to give up until I saw this video. I mixed some regular water with sugar and administered a few drop in his mouth every three minutes, he started to gradually gain responsiveness, was able to close his mouth (he had his mouth open the whole time), then wiggle his feet then was able to hold up his head and fast forward three hours later he was able to walk and meow and even climb on my clothes 😭😭😭 I then fed him his formula and is now fast asleep ❤️❤️ I am forever grateful to you 🙏🙏🙏

I found 6 kittens, all of them seem fine at first, after less than a week of having them, they started to become less active and will hardly eat or drink water! 2 sadly died and one is dying In my arms as I'm typing this, I'm feeding the little kitten warm sugar water and electrolytes every 3 minutes,. Hopefully, the kitten recovers, he keeps making a gasping sound , while tilting his head back he smells a little like death so I really doubt it um please if anyone could pray for theses 4 kittens

I just came upon your channel. I started fostering this spring. I am on my third family. I lost one of my current family kittens to fading kitten. He would not nurse from th ex start. I tried everything I knew. I knew he wasn't going to make it, so I wrapped him up made him as comfortable as I could and rocked him until he got his wings. The other two kittens are now 4 weeks old and rolly polly snuggly bugs. My little girl is a poldactyl. She has a total of 23 toes. 7, 6, and 5 on each rear paw. She walks like a gecko. The boy looks like a black ewok from star wars return of the jedi.

Dude I found this kitten on my property after I came home from work. The mommy cat that lives on my property didn't want her kittens, so I found them all dead except for one. He has been doing so good this past week, but today he refused to eat and was extremely weak. It honestly made me feel like shit I clean him from fleas everyday and feed him every few hours. I also have a dog who have birth recently accept the kitten and is helping keep his body head. I don't know what went wrong.
Camilo, Thank you for working so hard to save him! These things happen for so many reasons and a lot of the time we will never get to find out why. Its been my experience that outdoor cats get pregnant so often that they are just over it. They have zero shits left to give and their bodies are run down and exhausted. They are literally incapable of growing healthy babies any more and when by some miracle they have live births, they just don't have it in them to be a mom anymore. If it is at all possible, try to get this old girl spayed before she gets knocked up again. It would be the biggest gift you could ever give her. Call you local shelters or rescues and see if someone can help you get her TNR'd. 🙌😘 -Missi

From the bottom of my heart, thank you, thank you, thank you! I rescued a kitten at what I assume was around 4 weeks old and for two weeks he was thriving, just living his best life. Then he took a nosedive. He was glassy eyed, lethargic, no appetite and no interest in playing, he just curled up in a ball and slept. I was so freaked out, even though I'd only had him for two weeks this was NOT like him and it just felt like something was very wrong. Once I googled his symptoms and saw that it was most likely FKS, I searched on here for what to do and your video came up! I fed him sugar water and evaporated goats milk with a dropper and he perked up!! It took a few days until he was fully recovered but he seems to be all better. I pray this won't happen again. My kitten had kitten fading syndrome the other day and thankfully I caught it early enough and was able to treat it with every single thing you got it on this video. Thank you so very much. Oh wow… I wish I found this video a day later, poor Pickle was starting to become very weak at 12AM on a Friday, it was his bedtime so we thought it was tired, as we have never taken care of a kitten that was 5 weeks old. We woke up and it’s whole body just took a toll downwards. He did have watery diarrhea the day we got him, but we suggested it was due to the food because it was new to him.. he just wouldn’t eat or drink, was freezing cold / shaking, and just looked on the edge of death. We went to the vet and we were to late. The only choice was hospitalization which costed up to 18,000 where we live. We didn’t have that money and sadly my mom decided to put poor Pickle down and out of its pain. He was so ill the vet wouldn’t let him home because if he did , he would die a slow death. This was our first time taking care of a 5 week old kitten that was a stray outside, and we never knew about this syndrome. Rest In Peace Pickle, 11-14-21..

I was the only one there for my kitten who was the last born in the litter. The mama cat isn't even doing anything to try to help their baby.
The baby is weak. Wobbly, struggling to breath, dehydrated, cold.
I tried to keep the baby warm. Doing what I can to help. I don't have almost all of the things that was mentioned in the video sadly. Only surger and water which I mixed well and did small finger drops to the baby's mouth.
The baby is still alive and struggling and my own mother wouldn't let me try to save it even more. Just told me to leave it to the mama cat.
All I know is the baby isn't gonna live until the next day. Thanks to my mom. I was crying when I held it for the last time. I did everything I can for him.

We have been trying to save an underweight Sphynx kitten. He has been doing so good and gaining weight for 13 days. Suddenly today he took a turn for the worst. We have done everything you’ve have suggested and sadly some just can’t be saved. He is simply lingering right now and it’s breaking my heart. We took him in weighing .80 ounces and he was at 2.70 ounces yesterday but today he lost weight. Anyone that is reading this please know you’re not a failure if your kitty doesn’t make it. We have saved many neo natal puppies and kittens and only lost two.

12 months ago - late January my litter of four kittens became FKS pros! One was out for four hours but I brought her back. She even had four bouts of it! The last session, was two of them at once. I didnt have a heating pack so I shoved the purritos down my cleavage and put a heat pack on the outisde. I gave them loves of kisses and whispered sweet nothings to them. I learned on the job, googling and reading up on the protocols and luckily had a vet who helped me by teaching me subcut fluid. Thank you for this video! While it wasn't around while I was learning on the go I am sure it will help many others. - Gaby

I've been rescuing/fostering for 8 years and I've dealt with/saved/sometimes lost many kittens and I never really understood the Karo syrup thing. Colleague of mine kept suggesting it and I didn't understand really why. Knew about pedialyte and everything else, just not the Karo (or the awesome cool nipple!)

Sound like an upper respiratory infection. We see those a lot in rescue work; it's probably the most common illness we see. Thank you for trying to save him!

Praise to God that I find this video my kitten is in a bad condition right now and in our area where we live it's not easy at all to find vets as they are less in number but I'm trying, I'm glad I find this video I don't have Maple syrup , corn syrup right now so I just gave my kitten honey mixed in warm water 5 minutes ago and I'm giving her warm air through my mouth on her fur as I don't have heating pad , will keep u updated INSHALLAH.

My brother and his wife took in 2 very young foster kittens, their cat had kittens 2 week prior to this. Both kittens were very ill looking and extremely tiny despite being older than momma cats biological babies. They did fine for 2 weeks until they noticed today the smallest kitten was in obvious pain and with research we found out it was fading kitten syndrome. We then found this video and followed the instructions. We were sure we were too late (poor guy was in awful state, we thought he was past the point of no return.) At one point he stopped breathing and I was able to bring him back with gentle chest compressions. It’s been 3 hours of following this video and he’s made a remarkable turn around, he’s getting his strength back and is even able to walk a little bit again although he is so exhausted and wants to sleep. Not out of the woods yet and we’re really praying this tough guy pulls through! He’s got a fighters spirit. Thank you for the video, if this guy pulls through it’s another tiny life you’ve saved! Fingers crossed!! ❤️🐱

😭, just rescued this little guy outside a hotel here in TX during this nasty weather. He was so skinny, but screaming his little head off. Took him home, bathed him, and he seemed to be doing good. He had his 'milk' teeth, so fed him with a dropper with goats milk I had in the fridge that had defrosted...and he also ate some of the fancy feast infant pate. Even used the litter box. But he started fading last night...gave him water&salt&Karo....went to the store this am for Pedialyte......came back and he was gone. 😢. He was a cutie too....black and white with little "bandit" markings, even a little ❤ on his paw.😭
I love black&whites......my 3 foster fails are gray&tabby. Asked the MOST HIGH 2 welcome him N2 heaven and keep him there 4 me. Along with my dog Rolo, his kitty brother Oreo.....my baby I brought when I moved back from England..."Winston"..Rest N peace little Bandit...😢 I take comfort in knowing rhat at least his last hours here were not trying to stay alive in a storm....that he did have food and cuddles..he even purred a little the night before last.....😢

im only 15. im thinking about fostering when im around 20 so i can have a separate account for money for foster care and im trying to start early in watching these videos. its currently 4 in the morning and the whole night ive been researching kitten foster care and tips for their healthcare because ive seen videos on Dodo and it scares me thinking i could potentially lose a life. i want to start with over 8 week old kittens and once theyve been adopted and im comfortable with basic care, i want to make my way to the younger kitties
That's an amazing plan! You might check with your local rescues and shelters to see what their programs are like. Some of them are able to cover 100% of the food and litter you will need as well as their medical care. If you're on Instagram or Facrbook, you might check out my second account, Foster Kitten Tips. I was too late and lost 2 kittens. After what happened, I was devastated and now, I feel like I can't sleep. When the 2nd one was dying, he wasn't moving. They were motionless, but breathing. After an hour or two, I noticed that he was drooling and put him on his side for him to not choke. After 2 more hours, he finally passed next to me. It makes me very sad that he can no longer see their brothers, sisters, and mother. I miss them both so much already :(

I’m currently taking care of seven kittens all of them are doing great except two of them. Last year I lost one kitten to fading kitten syndrome and I’m not planning on losing these two to it. I’m glad I found this video but not sure how much stuff I’m going to be able to get do to quarantine and supply shortages
Lilly, just follow the protocol as closely as you can. Your creativity will see you through the supply shortage. Keep a recipe for homemade electrolytes and a bag of plain sugar or a bottle of Karo on hand along with a heating pad. Those are the biggest parts. Thank you for all you do!
I just lost my baby cat today. I am so broken right now. The last time I felt this pain was when my mom died. My wife just found this angel inside plastic bag in a canal. We put all our heart to her. I miss her so much. I wish I was able to save her.
