Tay I new this vlog would be good, but it totally knocked me off my feet so to speak. I’ve had the honor and privilege to be there in away to watch as this sculpture was created from a log to the piece you see here today. This Indian Chief tugs at my heart in so many ways. What a magnificent sculpture this turned out to be! It is always AMAZING to me how TayMarie creates her pieces of art with a chainsaw. Add in her artistry with a paint brush and rattle cans and in this case no help from a airbrush is second to none. What a wonderful vlog to celebrate this impressive accomplishment! Can’t wait to see what her chainsaws might be creating next. I know it will be something good. Stay tuned! Bravo to you my sweet talented friend!!! ☺️💛
Your proportions were Spot On. You have found the skill set that God has given you. In the fall, I carved a mountain man skinning a rabbit, and I struggled with symmetry.
That sounds like a complex carving!! Wow! Yes, symmetry is always difficult, make sure you stop carvings every few minutes, take a few steps back, and look at your work. That will help a bit with your symmetry, if you left too much material one side it will be easier to see with a little distance. Also take pictures on your phone and flip them, helps identify things that are off!
Wow. Lucky man today! Watched the Spain girls win the FIFA gold cup. Watched Tay Marie also take home the gold cup in WOMENS Chainsaw custom carvings! Amazing Tay! Thumbs up everyone! 👍👍👍👍👍

Thank you Rick! The head and arm have timber lags with dowel plugs for added support, just didn’t get it on film, but that glue it so strong alone too! Working on another grand project now 😉

Thank you for this comment 😊 Been working on carving deeper with my furring and texture lately, it definitely makes a huge difference and create more shadows!
Yes shadows really make it pop also just as an example when you were doing the native and carving the knife on his hip going deeper and separating part of the blade from the body it just brings out so much more wow factor but again a really nice carving TayMarie . Just a little tip from an old man lol I am enjoying your progression as an artist your gong to get seriously good your young work smart and not hard this is a job that can be hard on the body but very rewarding. Just me, my saw, and some time! Videos are great but getting time with the saw is the most important. The only video I watched before trying it was how to operate a chainsaw safely 😂
@@TayMarie23 I’m glad that you addressed the respirator, and that you always show yourself wearing one. So many woodworkers never wear one. Maybe you can talk to Chainsaw Jenna about the importance of saving one’s lungs.
How does the selection of the right wood species play a critical role in the success of a carving project, and what factors-such as hardness, grain, and durability-do carvers need to consider before beginning?
Wood type is really just a carver preference and avaliable thing. If I was over west I would be carving cedar, but since I'm over east I carve eastern white pine. White pine makes a great canvas- it's soft but still holds detail well, it's not super knotty, and dries in a way that it doesn't check horribly like oak and some other hardwoods can. You always want the grain running the length of the piece or attachment for added strength 💪🏼 sometimes that's why we do attachments, simply for the added strength of having the grain run in a different direction for the add on specially:)
Yet again another awesome power carve. Brilliant 👏 work. Question if I may 🤔 ? All your off cuts? You seem to treat with a bit of respect in my eyes, you don't just toss them aside 😊. So would i be right in guessing that ! you either use them for maybe hand carving for yourself or others or sold on for that type of thing. After all nothing these days seems to come free does it ?? Also guess you have to buy the logs in the first place. Cheers Les.
Thank you for the kind words! I try to waste as little as possible so the larger scraps like the ones made from this project go into a different pile where I carve smalls out of them or use them for glue ups and whatnot!
Let’s just say this customer got a really really good deal 😂 I don’t know what I would charge for something like this again, it took me over a month of work! I think when I broke down how much I made on this carving it was about $6 an hour…not counting supplies 😂 People are so hard, definitely a few 1000s!
I'm in no rush to do another person, unless it's for the right price! 🤣 I think this guy took longer than the 10' grizzly I did, but I charged 1/4 of what I charged for that grizzly....hard lesson learned!
That's absolutely great 👍 you make good use of the majority of the timber you cut away. Some just toss it aside, dump it or it gets split into kindling for wood burners. Using it all or as much as is possible is a real credit to you 😊. Cheers Les.
The larger chunks are put to the side for small carvings and anything that can't be made into a carving gets thrown in the burn pile! Unfortunately since I carve mostly pine, it cant be burnt for heating fuel and most of the wood I carve was destined to be burned as hog fuel anyway, so it's nice I get to save a majority of it from waste! Since I do this full time I have been trying to think of creative ways to make more use out of the scraps. Might invest in a muncher/chipper to make and sell mulch as a side hustle 🤔
The gorilla glue is definitely strong enough alone but I always dowel or timberlok larger attachments, this project I used 5-6” Timberloks, sometimes they are just easier and more discreet then pounding a dowel in! 😊
I do no, but that’s a good idea though! I haven’t posted any educational or tutorial videos since I’m just learning how to do this myself 😂 Timberloks are long structural screws, I believe they even use them for log cabin homes. I show them in my life sized deer carving video, I don’t do much joinery so I think that’s the only video that shows them!
Thank you Taymarie! I've been carving only four years myself. I think this beautiful craft, is constantly evolving, and that's why it's so exciting. I really hope you do a video on joinery. Thank you so much for your response and keep on what your doing!
Some of it gets used for smaller carvings and some of it gets burned! Almost all the logs I use are destined for hog fuel so it's nice to save a lot of it from the burn pile :)
This owl is my wife and mine favorite , you are so talented and your painting is spot on and so is the detail , we Love your videos , would like to know how much if possible . KEEP IT UP
Too long! Probably 2 months of work between other projects and what not! The first log I carved ended up being infested with carpenter ants so after a week of work I had to scrap it and start over! This project was a pain as much as it was a joy haha!

@@TayMarie23 I'm not familiar with timberlocks. Do you have a video on joinery and dowel vs timberlocks?
I do no, but that’s a good idea though! I haven’t posted any educational or tutorial videos since I’m just learning how to do this myself 😂 Timberloks are long structural screws, I believe they even use them for log cabin homes. I show them in my life sized deer carving video, I don’t do much joinery so I think that’s the only video that shows them!
Thank you Taymarie!
I've been carving only four years myself. I think this beautiful craft, is constantly evolving, and that's why it's so exciting. I really hope you do a video on joinery. Thank you so much for your response and keep on what your doing!
what will you do with all the scrap.
Some of it gets used for smaller carvings and some of it gets burned! Almost all the logs I use are destined for hog fuel so it's nice to save a lot of it from the burn pile :)

Dang!
You are trippin me out! WOW
Trippin you out huh? 😂
Do you realize that what you do is just a little bit short of a miracle
I appreciate that! But I think it’s more so just hours of practice and my workaholic attitude 😂 I don’t remember my last day off hahaha!
Wow how long did it take
Too long! Probably 2 months of work between other projects and what not! The first log I carved ended up being infested with carpenter ants so after a week of work I had to scrap it and start over! This project was a pain as much as it was a joy haha!
great job
Sehr schön geworden 😊
Thank you!
