  • This is quick tour around the dials with a late 1980s Roberts R25.
This is fast becoming a classic radio and is often overlooked by collectors so get one while the prices are still low. Even so this set is still nearly 40 years old and is working well.
Lots more on my channel so why not go take a l👀k
    Thanks for watching

I recently bought a Roberts RP26MB and a Roberts R606 both in very good cosmetic condition and so far working well and sound so much better than my DAB radio and more on par with my with my Philips radio from 1976 which cost £25 [ a weeks wages back then]

Hi, sounds like you have had a couple of great buys! The R606 is a solid workhorse and not too big. Totally agree with you in regard to the sound quality of these old sets, a wooden cabinet and decent speaker giving them a good frequency response and presence. Although as you say, they were pricy in their day, now you can pick these up for not much money and enjoy high quality radio performance for many years to come. BTW, I have done a video on using rechargeable AA batteries to replace the PP9 batteries that some of the older Roberts sets use, so you can save a little money and be kinder to the environment at the same time.

@@TheWobblyCameraGuy Thanks, both radios use "C" batteries,[I think, not checked the R606] I use them on mains supply

Ah, OK understand. Most of my Roberts receivers are designed to take a PP9. You must have the R606MB i.e. Mains/Battery which I think also takes ‘C’ cells 🤔.

@@macraghnaill3553 High, sounds a good idea, but just bear in mind that they tend to be approx. 1.2 to 1.3V rather than 1.5V of a standard battery, so overall voltage will be down a tad, but the radio should work just fine.
