I agree the real value of this aerial is the handy self contained reel and the antenna clip. They should have named it the "Air Reel". If they could only make a a 'Tuna Bill Loop" on a reel.

Hi, that’s a good thought ‘air-reel’ lol 😂. It’s a useful little aerial that I was initially sceptical of, but it turned out to be very useful and I’m happy to share my findings with everyone.

Its a handy little antenna I must say. Thanks for the review.
The "noise in the middle of the band is amateur radio transmissions.... morse, FT8, RTTY and voice (SSB) it is located from 14 to 14,350 MHz (wich shows your dial is about 200 kHz of... ) It needs a radio with SSB capability to make really audible.

Hi, many thanks for your kind feedback and the clarification on the transmissions that I queried, excellent! These cheap little Kchibo’s are good receivers but even so, the aerial gave it a good boost. So, if like me, you have a few of these sorts of budget receivers, then this little aerial is worth consideration.

Yep, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at the difference this little wire aerial made.

Too bad the radio didn't have a BFO !
As it sounded like it was picking up strong Single Sideband signals !
I bet they would sale even more radios if they would incorporate a BFO !
As to the test, to be fair, shouldn't you have taken the radio outside ?

Hi, thanks for getting in touch. Yes, these little Kchibo’s are very good in comparison with some of the other similarly priced multi-band radios, but since they are aimed at the budget end of the market, I guess they need to look at costs and adding the necessary oscillator circuit etc. would probably cost too much. As for the test, in theory, yes for a 100% comparison, I could have taken the radio outside for the first part, however, this is fraught with issues of noise from passing cars, deliveries, people working outside etc. as well dogs barking. All the fun stuff that you don’t really want on your audio 🙈 To be fair this was recorded at the back of my garage and the walls are only 1 brick thick, so not too much dampening of signals. Thanks again.

That tuning knob sucks. It needs finer selection option.

Hi, thanks for your feedback. Yes, I agree, like most of the budget multi-band radios at this price point, there will always be compromises that you need to take into consideration. However, to be fare I was rushing a little as I didn’t want the tuning comparison section of the video to be too long, as it can sometimes make things a little ‘dry’ in places. Thanks again - TWCG
