Rachel, these are gorgeous!! I made my first one yesterday, but wrapped strips top to bottom, front and back. It is beautiful, but the doubled pale green print doesn’t cast much light when the lamp is on. Now I know I can carefully remove the outer fabric, which will let more light in. Eager to try another one your way😍

      Good morning, Miss Linda!
I'm thrilled to know you tried one of these lampshades! Isn't it addicting?! I've got several more on my list to make. It's the perfect rainy afternoon task with tea and great interior design podcast...
By the way, I've since made another, updated tutorial on the pleated lampshade that has a more professional result. Here's the link if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/4x9pIPcbzVk/видео.html
      Happy lampshade making!

@@StoneCottageHome hi, Rachel. Yes, I have seen your more updated tutorial. It’s beautiful, and no sew, which I’m interested in right now. My next project is a DIY chinoiserie lamp I saw on Pinterest with a pleated lampshade (similar to yours from this video). I just got a small ginger jar shaped lamp off marketplace last night for $10. I’ve already bought the printed paper napkins from Etsy. I’m starting with a small one, in case I mess it up. I’m getting addicted to lamps and shades to the point I won’t have storage for them all😂, but it’s so fun because all of them thus far have cost me so little. Blessings to you and Matt🥰

Hello! I really enjoyed this video -- in addition to learning many useful tips, I also found your presentation style calming and welcoming. Thank you for bringing us along! However, I will admit I was quite disappointed not to see a tutorial for the method of pleating shown on the final lampshade. This one was the reason I clicked on your video because I spotted it on the thumbnail image and was intrigued to learn how it was done! Perhaps you have posted a video elsewhere on your channel showing how to achieve this look? Please let me know -- thank you! I also really like how the velvet trim looks. I was already considering that, and now I'm even more sure that it's what I want for my own lampshade. Thanks again for sharing, and please let me know how I can pleat my fabric in that loose way like you have on your final lamp. I appreciate it! Take care.

      Good morning, Miss Emily!
I'm glad you enjoyed the pleated lampshade tutorial. When I created this video, my focus was on the popular straight pleat. The pleating style featured on the thumbnail I just made up...
The technique is simple: pull two pleats together at the top, secure those with glue, then pull two pleats together at the bottom and secure those. I hope that helps!
The velvet trim, or any strongly contrasting trim, will look great.
I've been thinking of making another fabric lampshade tutorial using the shirred method, which gives a softer light. Perhaps the loose style method could be added to that video as well. Thanks for reaching out and politely making a request!

    • @emilys3638
      @emilys3638 4 месяца назад

@@StoneCottageHome Ohh yes please, that would be wonderful! I would very much like to see both techniques in your video, if you are indeed willing. That's lovely that you created that pleating technique yourself! It also explains why I couldn't find any other similar pleats online -- haha! It looks almost like each pleat changes direction midway down the shade and reverses itself... Very intriguing! I absolutely love the relaxed simplicity of the final effect. Thank you for your kind reply, and I'll be looking forward to your future video! ✨️💖

I love this tutorial, thank you. One thing I want to add, as I learned the hard way, those clip on lamp shades that go directly on the bulb should only be used with LED light bulbs, not incandescent bulbs. They get too hot and burn a hole right through the fabric!

Thanks for this tutorial! I'd love to know how you did the third pleated lampshade, I noticed the fold probably need a specific technique. Could you please share this? Many thanks

      You're welcome!
Yes, the red lampshade was easy. Simply have two pleats meet/come together at the top, then the next two do the same on the bottom. Continue interchanging this pattern all the way around. Hope this makes sense! Happy lampshade making!

The old oil lamp pattern is called blue willow. That is such a great find.

We used to own a lighting store. If you are making a cloth lampshade you need to use fire resistant material. Hope this helps and does not discourage. Just making people aware

We live in Oklahoma, and you're right, the thrift stores (and a couple quilt shops) are especially good here. Thank you for stopping by!
