This is so impressive that you were able to do it yourself. I had no idea it was so hard to find pleated lampshades in the store. Beautiful DIY project!
I seriously could not wait to watch this video since I saw it on Instagram and all my goodness I am in love! This looks so time-consuming and therapeutic! That is so neat how it drys in that shape! The way that you glued it on the shade really made it look so flawless! I am so impressed!
Awww, thanks Brooklyn 🥰I was so fascinated by the fabric stiffener! There was definitely some down time in between all the drying, but well worth it ❤️❤️
Love no sew DIYs 😍😍 it’s so satisfying to watch the pleats come together at the top, you did Amazing Eunice 💖 can’t wait to see your bedroom come together!!
Your lamp shade is beautiful. My lamp shades are almost 30 years old and the fabric is crumbling. I have been trying to find a replacement shade for 2 years. As you mentioned, it can be costly to replace lamp shades. Replacing the shades for my 2 lamps would cost $75.00 to $100.00 each and they are hard to find with a 21-22" base diameter. I am not crazy about what I have found so far. I don't want to buy new lamps because it would be hard to find something I like that would go with my older furniture. I am going to try your procedure. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks so much! That would be amazing to extend your lamp life with this DIY and save the costs on getting new shades. Wishing you good luck on the project 😊
Thank you! I used 6ft of fabric for my 14" diameter lamp shade. I would suggest measuring the circumference of the widest part of your shade and at least doubling that.
Wow!! Loving it. I was thinking about doing something like this. How did the hot glue hold up through the years? I’m afraid that the heat could damage it
🔔🔔ANNOUNCEMENT 🔔🔔Hey everyone! Since this project, my love for pleated lampshades have not gone away. I've been loving the more "gathered" pleated lampshades lately and created a new DIY that you can check out here: ruclips.net/video/AFr_2k0cK4A/видео.html
Would love to know the mathematics of how you got 2 yards for the length. Just have my own bigger lampshade and trying to figure out how much I need to cut. Your shade looks beautiful!
Hi, I would start with at least 2x longer fabric than the circumference. It really depends on how big you want your pleats - I started with the full length of how much I bought because I wasn’t sure and ended up using all of it! Hope that helps and thanks for watching 😊

Do you think a less thick fabric would be better? Worse? Any other changes or non-changes you feel strongly about after living with the lamp shade for a while? Do you think stitching the lampshade onto the base shade was possible?
The only thing I’d do differently is just ensure that the lines are more evenly spaced as I’m hot gluing the shade on, but besides that - the shade is still in great condition. You could definitely sew if that’s your preference, but because the fabric was pretty thick, hot glue sufficed. Less thick fabric would be easier to stiffen but might show the hot glue through especially if it’s light in color. The thicker, the more generously you’ll need to spray the stiffener (it should feel soaked) Thanks for watching 🥰

Hello, just wondering how you figured out how much fabric you would need for each lamp shade? Is there a formula for example 4” of fabric per 1” top circumference or something like that?
Hi, I would start with at least 2x longer than the circumference. It really depends on how big your pleats are - I started with the full length of how much I bought because I wasn’t sure and ended up using all of it! Hope that helps(:
Thank you! Thicker cloth for sure! When the light is on, things like hot glue marks can show through so a thick clothe will cover that and look more luxurious :)
How do you know much fabric you’re gonna need for the lamp you’re using? Let’s say it’s 10 inches around. How much do you need to make sure it goes all the way around?

Do you mean for the fabric? I got a thick cross stitched linen like fabric. Anything works but I'd recommend something thick if you're using hot glue so that the glue marks don't show through!
@@daniellemartin3509 That could work! oh I just realized you wrote diameter above, I doubled the circumference for mine! i really hope I didn't say diameter in the video 😅

I didn't think it'd be difficult either! I think needing a certain size made it harder too. Thank you!! ❤️

I love this project. It looked difficult at first. But you made it very easy. I agree just having the right materials.

I really love the colour and the pleats, its so beautiful. Can you please tell me what it is that you sprayed on the fabric.
Thanks so much! it is Aleene's fabric stiffening spray so that the pleats stay put
I Love this! Reminds me of the fan Too!
Oooh yeah!! It does :) Thanks so much AllyCat ❤️❤️
I love it.
Thank you!!
Love it. Thank you for the demonstration. I've been wanting to make one for my floor lamp. When you say fabric stiffened, are you meaning starch?
Super super Beautiful!!!!!

I think they are pretty but my home gets too dusty, so they'd probably be gathering dust in a matter of weeks or months.
Yes I think they cute 🤗
@@aalegalfocus I haven't even thought about dust gathering on there 😂

Never thought much of them, but they definitely add to the dynamic of any room. (:

Thank you so much for this vid 😍✨

Great result, BUT, it would have also been useful to provide the calculations used for the amount of fabric required to accommodate the pleats.
Wow 🤩 you did amazing job 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 love it!!

Books as support Yes!
I think some large rubber bands would help hold the fabric in the pleats. Or maybe some clips.
LOVE that idea!! Thank you :)
so clean and soothing to the eyes! also the top feels like your color

Thats beautiful idea, i wondering what kind of fabric is that? I mean the spesific name, i hope i also can do that
Sorry, I can't remember but it was quite thick and had stitching like canvas (not as thick as canvas though!) hope that helps(:

how long is the material that is going around the lamp shade? How did you come up with how much fabric you need to go around with the pleats?

I am totally doing this-thank you for sharing!! Would you have gone with a thinner material, or was the linen a good choice? Thank you again :)
Thanks for watching! The thick material I got required A LOT of fabric stiffener, but I like how it looks high quality :)
OMG it came out soo nice! do you recommend having a thicker cloth? or would a thinner one work as well

Fabric stiffener! amzn.to/3uEwOBc

Hot glue works but I recommend working with a thicker fabric that the glue texture wouldn’t show through!

I just made this, sadly it didn't fit my shade. You need to account for the diameter at the top of the shade too, not just the bottom. Bummer!
