"The first time I ever really listened to Kyle Kulinski’s show was in the back of a cab last summer. The driver had his phone hooked up through the stereo and was pumping out an episode through the car speakers - loudly, as if looking to convert a captive audience.
“Do you like Kyle Kulinski?”
The driver, Ahmed, was a recent immigrant and apparently a die-hard fan of Secular Talk, the political talk show that Kulinski broadcasts on RUclips. I told him, yes, in fact. I do like Kulinski, had come across his show several years ago, and, all things considered, he seemed pretty good.
“He understands what we’re up against,” Ahmed said. “Like Bernie.”
But I was surprised to hear Kulinski’s name mentioned in the same breath as Bernie Sanders, particularly with such adoration. Because what I did remember about Kulinski’s show struck me as mostly capital-P “progressive” takes on the news - the left wing of the Netroots crowd more than the democratic socialism Sanders has popularized.
It’s an impression that wasn’t entirely incorrect.
“I have no time for philosophical, airy bullshit,” Kulinski tells me from his home in Westchester, New York. “I don’t want to hear about Lenin. I don’t want to hear about Marx. I just want a super plainspoken, straightforward agenda with a straightforward way of selling it.”
With over 800,000 subscribers and nearly 670 million total views on RUclips, selling a progressive agenda is clearly something Kulinski knows how to do - even Democracy Now, the long-standing flagship of progressive media, cannot match his reach on the platform. Chapo Trap House can certainly boast a wildly devoted fan base (and a not insignificant degree of media influence), but their audience is roughly half the size of Kulinski’s.
While Secular Talk might be more likely to be looped in with the progressive networks around Air America and Pacifica alums like Sam Seder than the more resolutely socialist world, Kulinski’s fiery rhetoric, razor-sharp class instincts, and knack for withering takedowns sets him apart from his peers. Judging by his rhetoric alone, he’s closer to a Eugene Debs than a Chris Hayes.
But unlike Hayes, Amy Goodman, or his friend Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks - who began airing Secular Talk on his web network seven years ago - the thirty-two-year-old Kulinski is virtually invisible in the mainstream media. Despite his enormous fan base, his show has never once been mentioned in the obligatory trend pieces on “the Millennial Left” pumped out by the prestige media. Nor has Kulinski’s name ever popped up at all in the New York Times, Vox, the New Yorker, New York Magazine, or the Washington Post, despite his leading role in cofounding Justice Democrats, the organization widely credited with sweeping Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of “the Squad” to power.
Just last week, his Wikipedia page was deleted. The reason? “There is very simply no [reliable source] coverage of this person,” according to one moderator. In new media, he’s king - the Sean Hannity of the Berniecrat left. In old media, he’s nobody.
I suspect there are a few reasons for that. There is nothing “cool” about Kulinski’s show. (As a friend put it, “‘Welcome to Secular Talk’ sounds like something you’d hear on Egyptian radio.”) His no-nonsense social-democratic politics won’t get him much cred with the Full Communism crowd. He records his show not in Brooklyn or Los Angeles, but in a studio he built himself in his modest Westchester home. His hair is too groomed and his taste in clothes too preppy to qualify as “Dirtbag Left.” Nor has he ever attended an n+1 release party. “Not only have I not attended one,” he says, “I have no idea what that means.”
And yet he’s astonishingly plugged-in for a young man in the suburbs. Wondering how Sanders ended up on the Joe Rogan Experience? Kulinski, a frequent guest on Rogan’s wildly popular show, introduced them. “You make the most sense to me,” Rogan told Kulinski on a recent episode. “You’re a normal person.”
Much like Sanders himself, Kulinski’s show has a massive audience that just doesn’t compute with our media’s understanding of “what the kids want” or even “what the left-wing kids want.”
It’s probably for the best - the very woke and very WASP-ish decorum haunting much of the media world is nowhere to be found in Secular Talk. “Corporate Democrats over-focus on identity as a trick to divert you from the issues that unite us all - class issues,” he said on a recent episode.

Rogan doesn't actually believe in anything.
He believes in Spotify contracts
He believes in money.
Hes an empty headed grifter
He believes in what ever the last person tells him.
And by the next podcast, he's changed his mind...

Same. In fact, the most staunch supporters of ending the war and the apartheid are fellow Jewish friends. It’s evangelical Christians and warmongering capitalists that make up most of the Zionists.

It would be good if the Palestine protestor's acknowledged how terrible Hamas is though. This right here, is the moment Kyle finally woke up and realised that Joe Rogan isn't really his friend, he's never gonna change his mind, and he knows he isn't getting invited on his podcast again. There's a reason why we compare what is happening to the palestinians as akin to nazis, because what the nazis did to the defenseless jews was so godawful to them, that we would never wish for that to happen to anyone, yet it is happening to the palestinians....
Ironically, the Likud government can't stop comparing Palestinians to the Nazis.
The Jews will never not be the victim no matter what the circumstances are. Once a people are subject to genocide they can do whatever they want. 30 years from now Palestinians will forever be victims and they will be able to do whatever they want.
They said, “Never again”, but they didn’t learn from that slogan.
The part where he says "depending on your social environment, there's a lot of people who just can't step outside of their lines of whatever the ideology of their neighborhood is attached to" and I'm like "hey jackass have you looked in a mirror lately?!"
He's made that observation SO many times and it's wild how he can be so close to realizing he's describing himself, yet never quite get there.
Weird how much he moved to the right when he moved to Texas. I wonder why.
A few things to say about antisemitism. Context of this conversation matters here a whole lot. Based from this clip alone:
1. Does Zionism = Antisemitism? No, of course not.
2. Are student protestors antisemitic? Not as a unified body, per their official message.
3. Is real antisemitism on the rise? Yes.
a. Current turmoil allow real antisemites to gain momentum and start muddying the water.
b. People look at the actions of Israeli government is lump them with other Jewish people because they are daft.
c. There are factions online that continue working on radicalizing people.
4. Is the Israeli government and Netanyahu responsible for the global rise in antisemitism? Yes, absolutely.
There is a level of complexity to this conversation that we must not lose track of and call out real antisemitism while pushing back against Zionist propaganda. Things are not black and white by any means.
It's a symbol of the times we live in. People are more polarized now than ever before and nobody cares for nuance.
Maybe they never did and the internet is just revealing this to us.
It’s wild how he never had near a strong quote against racism of people of color.
Nope
I don’t think you listen to the show
@@CaptainSaltyOcean most pushback I saw from Joe on racism against people of color was when he had Ben Shapiro on. He said that black people started behind the eight ball via slavery in a very modest tone. When was Rogan strong on the issue, so I can go watch it?

What is wrong with everyone all of the sudden?? Criticizing a government is completely different than hating the citizens that live under that government. I haven't seen anybody hating Jewish people just hating the Israeli government
I've seen people calling for the death of Jews. Or saying Hitler had the right idea. That is stupid not to think that some simple minded people cannot see the difference between a government and its people because Isreal does the same things. Ive also seen people call for the deaths of not only all Palestinians but all Muslims. I have seen anti Jewish riots in chechnya. I think you underestimate how stupid human beings are or how black and white we can see things.
I also watched videos of an incredibly intelligent well informed guy saying that what Isreal is doing is not the fault of the government but that every isreali supports this. Sounds like the same justification that Isreal is giving by saying every Palestinian supports Hamas.
I also absolutely see the slogan "from the river to the sea" to be implicitly genocidal. If you are going to make a Palestinian state that takes over all of Isreal, what happens to the isrealis.
@MrWaterlionmonkey I don't think any of us should believe everything our government tries to feed us without speculation. The job of any government is to convince the people to make the country money and to stay in control. Do you always agree with everything the American government does? I sure don't. But do I hate my neighbor who has different viewpoints? I sometimes dislike them but I'd never start slaughtering their family.

For the love of... "medieval-style" siege isn't a thing. They're not using catapults, trebuchets, ladders and rotting pigs. I mean, if you're going to attach ANY technology to it, do "civil war-style" or hey, like Leningrad, a "WWII style". Or here's a thought, stop attaching inflammatory, nonsensical adjectives to horrific things to make them sound worse. What they're doing is already worse than anything we ever saw in the Dark or MIddle Ages. In fact, most sieges have, historically, been a loss for the attackers.
The catapults and weapons aren't the important part of the definition of a siege. This type of attack is specifically a starvation method. Whatever weapons were used, the point was to surround the castle, prevent escape or resupply, and basically starve the inhabitants.
The average person is a bitt too desensitized to bombing and carnage. It's easier to trick people into thinking of this as a standard, two-sided war even while talking about the relentless bombing and civilian deaths. Propagandists can still write that off as 'collateral damage'. The murder of humanitarian workers and purposeful starvation of the civilian populace is something else entirely. Focusing on that aspect might be our only ticket to getting through peoples' thick skulls and cold hearts.
You're talking out of your ass.
Man.... great one
Great show 👍
*Rogan:* "So Bibi, you ever done DMT??"
*Netanyahu:* "No, but the IDF does Jew Jitsu. We use it against Palestinian 2-year olds"
*Rogan:* Jaime, pull that up..."
"Just to remove all doubt and prove how clueless I am on this topic, I'll now use anti-Semitic tropes to complain about the rise of anti-Semitism" - Toe Rogan
Hey there are good people on both sides...
True.
If Rogan has such a logic, why does he condemn Nazis in the first place? 😃
You've got every point spot on
Hey Kyle, you need to go on Joe please.
I don't think Kyle can just pull up a chair whenever he decides he wants to be on JRE... and, unfortunately, I don't think JRE's current guest-pool makes much room for people like Kyle anymore. Now that his conservative grift is in full swing, he has clearly been avoiding inviting guests who are going to speak the truth and muddy-up his mainstream narrative.
@@Strype13 No idea what Kyle's access to Rogan is or what their relationship is. Or if he even wants to go on the program. All I can do is stick my hand up and say, It would be nice if you added a different point of view on the JRE. What Kyle does or doesn't do is completely out of my hands and up to him.
Joe Rogan is the obnoxious combination of someone who is very opinionated while also being very impressionable.
Rogan Is an example of what happens when you become rich and famous. You become a part of that particular collective and narrative
Kyle is absolutely on-point. Actually spitting 🔥
Rogan knows *who* controls his Spotify deal.
*Pathetic.*
Yea bro, you're one of the roaches he's talking about.
This is actual antisemitism
Here you go proving Joe's point lol
@@mfpope7431 the truth is the truth
He got the musk treatment.
Kyle is never getting invited back to the Joe Rogan Experience. Joe Rogan has convinced me that long-term marijuana use melts your brain.
Rogan has always been a knuckle dragger
Rogan's idiocy has nothing to do with Mary jane
Bill Maher should have Kyle and Joe on the panel. I'd watch that shit. Kyle would destroy Bill and Joe. It would be funny, and infuriating.
Marijuana is loaded with mercury. Even hemp protein powder is toxic, I swear it's more toxic than tuna fish. Eating just 4 tbsp a day gave me palpitations after 2 weeks.
@@MisterNilesBeen listening to Joe for 10 years he pisses me off sometimes and it's just entertainment but I've never seen one person crush him on anything. Kyle wouldn't be the first.
Kyle knows you can say things about certain groups on college campuses but not others.
I never saw the day that kyle would rip into joe, but the line has now been crossed
Rogan found his niche being like Rush Limbaugh but being against anti semitism is the most based thing he said
Kyle, are you really trying to say that this hasn’t sparked antisemitism? You don’t think people are taking advantage of the situation to display their antisemitic thoughts without as much push back? Bro go back to covering the Drake beef please.
It’s surely happening and should be opposed. But it’s not that widespread. Still fringe but should be stopped. A much much much bigger thing that’s happening is people pretending that criticism of Israel is antisemitism.
boy who cried wolf
no one cares about "antisemitism" anymore, fake or real
He really is that narcissistic and stupid
WhT I’ve seen I a spike in hate for Israel and it’s justified people aren’t openly saying antisemitic things and getting away with it. Israel is the biggest reason antisemitism rises
@@mcmcmcm6520"Not that widespread", I'm sure a lot of people used the same excuse in the 1930s.
Thank you , Kyle. I know you rarely go against Joe Rogan but this was a valid reason. Joe Rogan is just going off of clips instead of a whole video for years.
It has NOTHING to do with their actions. They never do ANYTHING to anyone. EVER.
