The tip to cut irregular Is great, I learned it 74 years ago watching my great aunt wall paper. It came in handy 30 years later when I did a vinyl wall covering for my MIL's kitchen. The last strip was too short. The vinyl was purchased at a closeout and I had purchased the last. Grabbed a scrap, did an irregular cut and nobody including MIL and hubby noticed.

Ah, I just sealed around the sink with the caulking since that’s a splash zone. For everything else I just laid it town and trimmed off. (Did that answer the question?)
Another amazing decor success. I woul have painted the knobs on the top cabinets blue, but l am a person who obsessively matches everything! It is a gorgeous transformation, and now l know how to paint contact paper. I think that makes me dangerous.
The one we got is good quality (translation: thicker than others) and waterproof. In my experience, it holds up pretty well. Of course, you don’t want to chop something directly on the paper and slice it up, but in general, it’s pretty good, especially if you caulk the edges to avoid water seeping under.
You could bleach those countertops. My grandma had that same one. When it got yucky looking, she would lay bleach soaked paper towels on them, for more than 50 years!! The pattern stayed and the background was pure white.
Somehow all of those patterns totally work together! Looks awesome. You didn't think about doing a peel and stick backsplash, too? Or was it just not in the budget?
Definitely thought about it, but we were trying to stay in budget. And since the counter extended up the wall, I wasn't quite as worried about it. I will definitely come through with the backsplash in a future ep.
Love. LOVE. Quick question though--- I would love to contact paper redo my own countertops but I have a deep corner... tips? Thoughts? Come all the way to Tennessee and do it for me?
I guess if the biggest worry is seams , I would just try to intentionally split the pattern at the corner to match up as well as possible. Like precut them. I’m sorry I don’t have more tips! But good luck.
This is Draco’s mama Candi. I was wondering about her cabinets was they painted?. I have painted cabinets and I rent . I heard you can’t put contact paper on painted cabinets.
Thank you for asking! And I should have been very specific/much clearer in this one. No, I wouldn’t use contact paper on painted cabinets. The adhesive is too strong. I used the paintable peel-and-stick wallpaper because it is wallpaper meant to be removed from painted walls (although they say you’re not supposed to use it on flat paint, so make sure to read manufacturer directions). If you’re super worried about any paint peeling, another no-damage hack is to use liquid starch and fabric. Here’s a link for that: sewbeckyjo.com/starch-fabric-kitchen-cabinets-tutorial/

You talk about contact papering cupboards/cabinets in several of your renter friendly videos….isn’t the contact paper permanent? That doesn’t peel off, right? Curious how it’s renter friendly…cuz I’m a renter who’s tempted to try it 😂….
Ah, yes. So here are my thoughts. -Actual contact papering is fine for non-painted cabinets (like laminate). There can be residue to scrub off but it doesn’t damage (in my experience, as I have contact papered my own bathroom cabinets). -peel-and-stick wallpaper is better for painted surfaces because it’s meant to be impermanent and removed from painted walls (except flat paint). But, you know, there’s always a chance there *might* be a chip or two. -If you want an absolute fail safe, liquid starch and fabric can be used to wallpaper! sewbeckyjo.com/starch-fabric-kitchen-cabinets-tutorial/
@@LaughCryDIY thanks for replying! I just recently found your channel and have been loving the renter friendly stuff!!! My kitchen is HORRIBLE…25 year old everything (😂) and it’s so ugly….The counters are particularly atrocious and I’ve been wondering if I could peel & stick wallpaper or contact paper it…then along came your channel 😄. Thanks!!!
@@LaughCryDIY, thanks for the link. I knew someone back in the 90s that had fabric he had been reusing for at least 3 places. Not sure if starch was used? He stapled it to the wall and hid the staples with trimwork.
Just wanted to make sure we didn’t get any paint on the actual cabinets. Plus, having to keep them all open at different angles to avoid them sticking together while drying. Wanted her to be able to use it immediately as we did it in a day.
She should be able to peel the paper/tiles up easily (caulk or not), but if any part is particularly stubborn, she can score the caulk with a utility knife. But it’s such a thin line it won’t put up much of a fight. 🙂
One thing I didn’t mention, which I should have, is that It’s actually important to use peel-and-stick wallpaper on painted surfaces (instead of contact paper) because it is made to be taken off of a painted surface (and has a different adhesive). Only caveat is to not use the peel-and-stick if you have cabinets painted with flat paint (which I can’t imagine you would).

Thanks!!!
@@lisabrantley5386 so happy to provide a little inspiration. ❤️❤️❤️
@@LaughCryDIY, thanks for the link. I knew someone back in the 90s that had fabric he had been reusing for at least 3 places. Not sure if starch was used? He stapled it to the wall and hid the staples with trimwork.
@@joantrotter3005 ooh. That’s smart too.

I love me some latex caulk too 🤤😇
I know you do 😉
Why paint the wallpaper before mounting? I'd put more time into doing a really good job with cabinet paper application, then paint!
Just wanted to make sure we didn’t get any paint on the actual cabinets. Plus, having to keep them all open at different angles to avoid them sticking together while drying. Wanted her to be able to use it immediately as we did it in a day.

Hell yeah
You should come host at my house 😂😂😂
Coming right over 😂
HAHAHAHAHA I WISH 😂😂😂🙌🏻🙌🏻
Wait, how is she supposed to remove the latex cauk?
She should be able to peel the paper/tiles up easily (caulk or not), but if any part is particularly stubborn, she can score the caulk with a utility knife. But it’s such a thin line it won’t put up much of a fight. 🙂

You take on hard projects for DIY. I thought DIY was like repurposing a table, or chair. Lol
I’ve got furniture flips for ya too: ruclips.net/p/PLnlXtE3EadC1HKoTM5RVa_Gr9opktFowC
Great Job looks Awesome and those tiles are killersssss
They change it up so much!
Paintable wallpaper. Why did I never think of that. Whyyyy??? You are gems for sharing all this. Gems I tell you. 🤍🤍🤍
