Congratulations on the video!! I have recently acquired one of those and managed to change the belts. But the door is not opening. What could it be? Is the door mechanism linked in some way to the belts changed? Wish you had made a video on how to disassemble this unit step by step. 😅 I had a hard time trying to change the belts.
    Best wishes!

Impressive job, I've done the same on mine... Even more, full recapping and touch control replacement What did you use for the op amps? NE5532P? Impressive deck, maybe one of the best ever released, alongside it's predecessor, the WR905S which is basically identical inside. Congrats on your work!!

I have a small trick for socket connectors... I drip de-oxidant for every one of them, not only those I unplug, doesn't score the ribbon and they become easier to remove. Besides, when I disassemble front panels each clicky button and pot is dowsed with de-oxidant as well and worked a few times.
Don't forget to clean the display screen from the inside as it does pale over time and DO NOT use IPA on that: there's a high risk of permanent staining. No problem instead with using de-oxidant as a solvent then clean it with window cleaner fluid.
I am wondering if this deck can accept multiple AMS seek requests. SONY has skimped on this part of electronics for decades.

Nice vid! I see you didn't go with the FET mod after all. I think its a good call, these dual Sony decks not that great...although I like them as well, got a modded WR870(97ES). Anyways, may I ask what FETs do you use when doing this mod? I wish 2SK170 was still widely available. Cheers.

    Hello,
I bought myself a Sony TC-RX79ES recently. I know it's not a high end ES. 2 heads and internal components are not at the level of the best. I'm in Canada and they are hard to find. Which model do you suggest me please. Not the most expensive but a good model. THANK YOU !
