I love how, at 18:15 , you see a real, genuine smile from Alan. He's been trapped for 13 years in The Dark Place. He feels trapped and at his wit's end. Yet, Mr. Door and The Old Gods of Asgard were able to bring levity and light to him. For just a moment, he wasn't afraid, angry, sad, or (most importantly) feeling alone. Little moments like that can make all the difference to your mental health. Life, even in the darkest of times, is capable of bringing joy. You just have to put yourself out there to find it
Quite possibly the best moment in gaming history for me, my face hurt so much after playing this, it just made me wish the game had a level select to keep playing it over and over
I also kept a manual save right before it. I was alternating between the 3 save spots every hour or so just in case I got a bug that made me go back. I just started alternating between the 2 and left this one to replay… So good looking with the graphics and ray tracing all maxed on pc. A graphical showcase. And I moved my pc downstairs just to play this (entire game) on my 85” Sony tv.
I don't know why but I was almost brought to tears by it. Just clearly a true masterpiece of love and passion for not only the game and its characters but also music. Hands down one of, if not my favorite sequence I have played in my near 35 years of gaming.
I'm playing since 1990, for me this is the most epic scene in game history. I Tought that scene in AW1 where you fight next to big stage was awesome, but this blew up my head.
I've been playing since the 80s, and this is easily in my top 3 of most amazing game moments of all time. I wish I could play it for the first time again and again. It was so amazing
Personally, what I really like about this sequence is, it makes sense to the story arc as well. If you read the plot board that Alan has he actually admits that he was a fool into thinking he could trick the darkness into writing himself out to escape. Basically, this was the dark presence way to show him just how powerless he really was.
Wanted to see someone react to this after experiencing it last night. Cool to see. This was, dare I say, the first profound experience i have ever had in a game. Lol, absolutely amazing.
Two questions 1. Why don't u open the mail box like boxes on the poles? 2. Why don't you use flash like to clear the darkness shield before using the revolver?
My reaction was pretty much the same as yours. I was hoping Remedy would do another musical level and they did not disappoint! I still have this song stuck in my head!
Yess, same! This is actually my first game from Remedy, sadly I couldn't play any of the other games in time to have them finished before starting this one, but I'll for sure play them afterwards. I've heard they are quite legendary as well
@@maizki I highly recommend playing them sometime! They are pretty great. Particularly Alan Wake, Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, Quantum Break, and Control. They’re all good imo and are loosely or directly connected to each-other in some way, especially the Alan Wake games and Control. Also going back further Remedy’s Max Payne and Max Payne 2 are pretty good too, and Alex Casey seems at least partially inspired by Max Payne. Especially since Max and Alex share Sam Lake as a model (at least in MP1) and the same voice actor. (There is also Max Payne 3, which is not bad, but it wasn’t made by Remedy and has a very different tone.) Those games still hold up pretty well and I think since Remedy got the rights back to the Max Payne IP they are remaking the first two games.
One thing that made Sam seem even more of an amazing game director is how he was able to keep the music going in loops and didn't get to other parts until you got to certain parts. That one area with the taxi took me forever to figure out! 😂
Best part of the game. I want to know how that pitch went. "We need something to break up the grim of the game a little." "Hear me out, a musical number." "That is the dumbest idea!" "But it will really mess with them."
I felt the same way when I saw this segment of the game. Glad you enjoyed it as well. It was one of those moments in gaming, like the first time you get a video game console ever. You just knew what you were experiencing was special. Happy holidays!
The first line is random filler that doesn't translate to English very well. The second line is "Boys really put the ghettoblasters on, goddamn" (he's basically just admiring the song).
That's so awesome when you click that first TV set after the first part of the show, and think it might be over, but... Nope. It's by far not over... :D Loved that part so much!
I know right!? I love how they put together the whole thing! Because in the beginning you're just thinking like "oh no I don't want this to end yet" :D
PERFECT video game segment. It could not possibly be improved upon in any way, shape, or form, so therefore, it is perfect. I've been playing video games since like 1994, and, save for recent bias, this was the best segment of any video game I have ever witnessed in years.
Nooo you missed all the loot in the red boxes 😅 Anyway when I was playing it I was smiling for the entire segment! Alan Wake 2 is such a masterpiece, a great sequel. Can't wait for NG+ mode (which hopefully comes out maybe the 24 november, there's a sus date in one of the posters in Watery were Ahti was singing) and the 2 DLCs! Ciao dall'Italia 🇮🇹😁
I know right, luckily I noticed them later but just missed all of them on the first try..😅 glad to hear you enjoyed it as well :) definitely looking forward on the ng+ and dlcs as well!
This is not only an epic scene individually, but in regards to what this scene represents in the overarching story about how little control artists have over their stories/art, it's extra brilliant. The dark place (Wake's creative mind) takes him on a wild ride, and that little smirk he gives at the end was so satisfying. Through all the horror and terror of this game, & Alan's Mind, it's still capable of surprising us, and even him with something amazing, goofy and fun . At least that's how I interpreted it, but regardless of it's underlying meaning, it's a masterful sequence!
Ihan hyvin se meni...tosin itellä en kuolojen takia viettänyt aikaa kyseisessä chapterissa ihan liikaa mut musan takia kyllä. Pelailen ihan ormi tasolla mut ne puzzlet, ei vittu. Tai no koko peli on yks puzzle 💀
Pakko sanoa että varmaan yksi pelihistorian parhaista pätkistä, Witcher 3:ssa ja MGS1:ssä on hyviä kilpailijoita, mut kyllä tää vetää parhaat kortit mun mielestä.
yeah, because the video would've lasted for an hour without editing it. I was taking the whole experience in and wondering around a lot in the musical scene, so figured it's better to cut out some parts. also yes, I am still pretty new to gaming and figuring out how everything works :)
I’m SO glad she posted her gameplay. She did a perfect job editing because she displayed the struggle of this part of the game. When you’re starting off, you have to start from somewhere. Better to game than to not game at all. Thanks for posting, Loved the videooo!!
Pro: Extremely cute, adorable accent, the most awesome level in gaming history Con: Erratic mouse movement hard to follow, cuts in combination with the music super distracting

I have a manual save right before this so I can replay it whenever. It’s so good.

This is a good example why you should just go with it and not listen doubters. Sam Lake had to force this on the game.
really?! I didn't know that. I'm so glad they stick to it!
Source?
@darkshadow578 really late but it was on a recent interview with Sam Lake on the friends per second podcast
This is one of the greatest examples of AMBITION and EXCELLENCE in gaming! I loved every second of AW2
"Can they perform this at the game awards?" Yes, yes they can, it turns out.

I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed it as well 💜 It truly felt super special for me as well and I was so surprised by it!
Your playthrough was just like mine. Smiling ear to ear, amazed and enjoying every moment.
This game is a MASTERPIECE.
couldn’t agree more! glad you’re enjoying the game as well :)
@@maizki Oh I finished it last week itself. Amazing finish and now I'm reading up on theories and ending explanations lol

You gotta try Ashtray Maze in Control.

This game def deserves the GOTY absolutely magnificent story, graphics a sequel that def made compensation for the long wait

a Finnish playing a masterpeace made by finnish people is meta and epic.

aww I was hoping for a translation of the finnish dialogue that Ahti has right after the musical number concludes.
