The best part was seeing Sam Lake's huge grin while performing it. You could tell he was having a blast. This was pure vindication for him. People kept telling him that AW was dead and AW2 would never be made because no one would buy it since AW1 didnt initially sell well. Over a decade later, he proved them all wrong and created a masterpiece.
@@Horrorizacio Same. I am happy BG3 won and everything I have seen/heard from it is insane. But AW2 is 1000% my jam and just lives rent free in my head.
Sam Lake has been slowly turning this group of games into a Pre-Marvel multiverse that has been slowly gaining steam and acclaim. People just need to let him cook. He obviously knows what he's doing.
Knowing Sam Lake's crazy-ass writing/lore-building, it wouldn't surprise me that this segment is probably canon to the games and Alan briefly appeared in the real world through an Overlap, lol.
Yeah, this is surely part of some of the loops Alan goes through whilst trying to get out of the Dark Place. Are those bouncers out there between the audience and the stage? Or are they undercover FBC agents?
This performance made the ENTIRE show worthwhile for me to stream with my roommates for 3-4 hours. Both of em never played AW2 so my giddy excitement was PALPABLE. Now one of em wants to watch me play this. Haha
Alan Wake 2, Baldur's Gate 3, Larian, Remedy, they deserved all the love. Along with all the other amazing titles. Even if they didn't win, no one can deny their quality and impact. 2023 was a great year for gaming.
Hilarious to see BG3 haters lose their marbles though 😂 but ye I totally agree with you. Best year in gaming since 2010 and im glad BG3 and AW 2 won most awards.
Someone's comment at the end of the stream "Half the audience must be thinking WTF" - I can't even imagine what people who didn't play the game thought of this. Sitting there like "wait, isn't this supposed to be a horror game? Why the fuck is there a musical number?" I love it so much. Especially Sam Lake smiling so wide as he danced it home with them. Fucking amazing.
I found them waaaaaay back in 2005 when the credit rolled for Max Payne 2. I fell in love with their music, and it is so good to see a game developer ton incorporate a band into its game from the same country as they are from (Finland). The fact that all the Old Gods of Asgards songs that are in the games (AW1, Control, AW2) are actually narrative setpieces and all of the add to the story and/or the lore of the games.
@@DuBstep115 It makes sense, of course, I just wasn't expecting him to appear at all, since Matthew Poretta was needed to sing. Then again, I didn't expect Matthew Poretta or David Harewood either. It was such a nice surprise that they reenacted a bit of the musical.

Loved music in both Alan Wake 2 and BG3. The compositions and implementation were just perfect. Both let the music take the center stage in multiple story moments.
You know its a masterpiece when you can cut a full fifteen minute track down to four minutes for the The Game Awards and a radio edit and still get the full package across.

I've said it across a few videos already, but the musical parts of the show were genuinely amazing this year. Usually those segments (except for the GoTY orchestra) are a hard skip for me for varying reasons, but Heilung - whom I absolutely love - perfectly set the tone and mood for the Hellblade trailer they were also featured in, and POTF/OGOA absolutely killed it here.
