Note: My model is the PNP version. After using the PNP version for a while now, this is the version I would suggest you go for. Its the same motor, ESC and servos they use in the Dart 250g, and that does just as well (and thats from someone who had all the parts here to add to the model already!).
Weight / Batteries
- - - - - - - - - -
Before adding batteries the weight is around 200 grams. I'm using a 2S li-on pack I made, it's using LG MJ1 3500mAh cells. Hence the ability to fly forever.
Flight Controller

Matek F11-WSE: bit.ly/2WrQ8TP
I went for the FC over the one I originally used because it has a current sensor AND an extra camera input, which I'm now using with a Foxeer Razor Nano as a rear-view camera.
FPV Setup

Front Camera: bit.ly/2OzsMHm (2.1mm, no ND filter, 16:9)
Rear Facing Camera: bit.ly/30pBOwq (PAL, 16:9)
I am definitely not using this vTx bit.ly/3j9ir2Z with a VRX antenna. However if you're using 5.8GHz, then this vTx is amazing (I own loads) bit.ly/2HBOKVm with these antennas bit.ly/2Fmey5z and this atenna on my goggles bit.ly/2FlC9DF
iNav Settings:

These are my iNav settings, as always make sure you know what you're copy & pasting in, as my settings are from iNav 2.5.1 and have li-on specific battery settings.

I been waiting for this video to come out thanks
20:46 I think you meant to say "it's amazing how it's always just at the edge of unaided visual line of sight!" 😄
Love the model and all the great info! The detail on the wing is great and I really like the Matek setup. I will get one ordered now haha my nano talon needs a little brother.
New to you're channel, thank you for the in depth information on the ZOHD and the upgrades, very helpful for this newbie! And i do wish they came out with a larger size model also! 🇺🇸🐾🐾🐾✈️
Dude, that thing looks awesome. I ordered mine with the Kopilot, as I've never flown with any type of flight controller before ( I'm that old), but I haven't even got mine yet, and I want to upgrade it to a flight controller like yours. That's just too cool.
I have both the Drift and the Dart. Both are great fun weather FPV or LOS flying. I just added crossfire to them flying with the kopilot. Looking to transition to a flight controller next. Great video Matt.
is crossfire a good upgrade for long range? Getting a tx16s max soon upgrading from a dx7s, love how i can use modules now. Need to do the same as you, control link and autopilot upgrade
Oh my.. matt.. now.. u r really tempted me to get one.. 😂
Love the video.
When the model is flying forward, the pressure against the front of the wings will hold the back of the wing to the side of the fuse. I got the Kit version from GetFPV a week ago cause I was tired of waiting for USPS Customs in Chicago. 11 days now.... But as was commented a couple of small magnets would do the trick to hold the back of the wings completely to the fusalage.
Love your videos! And btw you have my logo on your pc 🤩🤩🤩🤩🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄
I just bought the fpv version today :)
If they are going to upscale it, then turning it into a solar glider seems like good air-frame for flight that would last overnight. That would be a huge step into a fun direction that no one has done yet...
You doing a heewing ranger t1 review? I appreciate your videos Thank you!
can you add to your great videos one about how to laminate your wings , just ordered a drift
Brilliant! I have a spare Matek F722-Wing that I was saving for a Sonic Model Binary build but the extended flight time of the Drift on such a small platform looks interesting. Do you think there's enough room for a RunCam Split 3 Nano up front ?
Ok you got me I’ve ordered one, I missed or couldn’t see what gps module to get? Thanks Matt
Did you need any lead in the back for balance? Love the vids mate
Gracias
Hey Matt, I'm (pretty) new in rc planes and I live in Europe, so I need a plane that is sub 250g. I'm currently thinking about getting either the drift or the dart 250g. Which one do you think is better?
Thank you very much for the nice and informative videos :)
Hey!
Wings attachment note. I agree with you that this is a very bad design. Twice it happened to me that during a hard landing, the rear of the wing moved away from the fuselage. The servo connector popped out of the socket. Then the wing bent back, but the connector bent the socket contacts and the control failed. I glued the wing.
I had my Dart 250 in the sky for half an hour and flew the same distance as your Drift did in an hour. Interesting how that worked out.
Yes! The dart is about getting there and the Drift is about the journey to there. Make sense? Matt
Hell get a bigger wing and you can go much further with the same flight time.
It's all about compromise. This would be a fun cruiser and easier to pack, than a 60" wing
I just bought the Dark Breeze version PNP and a set of Drift replacement wings. First to verify that the foam density is the same but also to run both black and white for contrast with the sky. I was just going to use the 30x30 drone FC I have in my R690 wing in my drift but watching you video I see 1.It will not fit and 2.the Matek has some features I would use. Sadly though I was unable to find an F411-WSE that was not twice the price of the new released WTE so I had to go with the WTE and just hope I can get it to fit. Mateks website shows that the WSE only supports one camera and the WTE supports two so not sure if Matek is wrong or you made some modifications. I was hoping to go HDZero and ELRS with my build and am hopeful I can find a way to mount the 1W Freestyle VTX I have and not have to use one of the 200mw Whoop sized VTXs. Fingers crossed and thanks for the video. Any advise is more than welcomed....
cool
I got them antennas from AliExpress a pair for under a tenna 👌
Hi Matt, great video , and always entertaining. I’m currently making a video comparing the drift to the Bix2, do you mind if I make reference to this video of yours to highlight the extraordinary flight times that can be achieved?
Absolutely go for it :)
Hey Matt thanks for making the vid mate I’ve bought and setup exact same setup, with your modes switches could you go through how all those work in a vid or more so Ch11 how you set that up thanks mate really enjoy your vids 👍🏻
Howdy David, one of my channels is a 6 way switch. I think 8? Anyway! If you copy the AUX modes from the INAV diff file in the description and add it via the CLI tab (copy, paste and then type save and hit enter), you'll see my setup for switches. Matt
The fpv kit I think is cheap only have a bixler but it's big to take anywhere so may look Into getting this
just got the drift, loving the flight time with my 2s 3500mah lion, and the kopilot is helping me keep it safe, but it does NOT engage RTH when lost connection to the controller (tested by turning off remote, this prosses gave me a heartattack, never done this before). Do you recommend the FC you listed? I want INAV, i think, not sure if i care for arduplane. Seen some bad stuff about inav tho, just really care if it engages RTH when signal loss happens though, osd is also on the list
Hey Mat. I downloaded your INAV dump to compare with some of mine (not the same plane, not the same FC). But is it a full 'dump' or just a 'diff'? Its only about 10% in size to my full dumps. How did you compact it to the size that it is?? Keep up the good work. Cheers
Hey Peter, just type diff and hit enter in the CLI tab, then you only get the changes! Matt
do you have a video about putting the laminate sheet on thegs
Hi Matt, Can these settings work with the new Eachine Razor? The Razor is just an enlarged Drift according to most reviewers.
Hello. ¿Can you share the link to the antenna plis?
Great video.
Hey Matt. A newbie question. What setting do you change to tell inav that the FC is upside down. Thanks
max distance and max alt seems blurry to me, i think there may be a problem with your OSD ;)
For fixed wing newbie , would you recommend ZOHD drift or ATOMRC Seal or ATOMRC Dolphin.
I plan to longe range cruise
Hi Matt. Love your videos can you help me please. I want this glider simply because of it weight potential IE under 250 grams. Can you advise me of the best set up battery wise. Plus what voltage should I use.New to this so please forgive my ignorance. Best Mark
Matt
From your osd I see that the plane can’t be still )?
Great Vid, loving the mods. Just a heads up, it looks as though you have the uprights for the D 250 G backwards 🤔.
Howdy Mitch, they're on there right 👍
Advice Please Have 1 cell Li-ION rated 2800 amps for ZHOD Drift what is expected flight duration?
this or the nano talon for long range fpv? What do you think?
You need to catch some thermals with it 😀
Hello, good afternoon. Where do you buy the thermal coating "film laminate"? What is the clear coating that you use to reinforce the model aircraft? Sorry for my lousy English. It's Google's. :-D
Hola buenas tardes ¿Donde compras el recubrimiento térmico " film laminate"? ¿Cuál es el recubrimiento transparente que usas para reforzar los aeromodelos? Perdona mi pésimo inglés. Es el de Google. :-D
what should i learn? ardupilot or nav?
i just ordered one. also plan on using f4095wse. what do you think about flaperon settings and flaperon to elevator mix on this? maybe make it more agile?
Hey Joseph, I've left mine as is, flies superbly! Matt
Anything special in inav to set up the FC upside down?
can you add a link to the laminate
When using a flight controller, do the ailerons still use a Y-cable and plug into 1 servo slot, or does each servo need its own slot?
Howdy Matt, either. A Y lead is easier an juts one output needed. But you could.do them separately if desired. Matt
Hey, I just finished assembling my drift and I have already used your inav settings on my Matek F411 Wse flight controller. However, I don't know if the control surfaces were configured right, and I am pretty sure they are not now, after I messed with them. I am confused as to what I put in the mixer tab in inav. If you looked at my plane from above with the front pointing away from you, servo 4 would be on the left wing, servo 5 on the right wing, and servo 3 at the back tail (elevator?). Which settings would I put in the dropdown boxes under servo mixer? Thanks!
Howdy, it's the mixer tab you want to set what is being set to each servo channel. Pop the ailerons on a Y lead and out them on one channel. If they go the wrong way, then set the value to a negative or positive value, then hit save/reboot and check again. Matt
@@RagTheNutsOff Thank you so much for your quick response! I was wondering what that Y lead was for (feeling silly now). I did what you said and connected the ailerons to the Y lead, and then connected that Y lead to the S3 port on the Matek F411. The elevator in the back is on the S4 port. I also managed to use the CLI and copy the individual settings back over from the pastebin link. Everything appears to be working now! Thanks for this awesome resource, I can't wait to fly this!
why did you censor the max altitude and distance?
what are the delivery times like from banggood to here in the U.K Matt? been dying to order some goodies. cheers
Banggood is doing the job on their end, but my package with my Drift has been in Chicago USPS customs for 11 days now.....
Are you stepping up (boost) the voltage to your not-a-matek VTX? Minimum voltage on the spec is 6V, and hypothetically one might run their 2S Li-ion pack down to 5v. Asking for a friend...
Howdy Jacob, I've not hit less than 6V yet so I can;t say. I would be surprised if it failed at 6V, more likely to be down around 5.5V at my guess. Matt
PS. They're really good aren't they 😉
Hi there just a quick an idea for the wings how about fixing a small magnet on the wings and body just like the hatches
Hello there, does anyone has the reference of the plane at 9:27 ?
F411-WING fits easily to drift, and WSE is even smaller
Morning, I don't own one of those. but the WSE did just fit into it in the end. Matt
I’m stumped. Got one, got the F411 board, but it won’t let me calibrate the ESC. Sliders work in iNav, things move as they should, but calibration won’t have it! Any clues? It’s an XM+ receiver (SBUS) am I going to need to get a receiver that has PWM just to calibrate?
Hey Alex, I had the same issue, I unsoldered mine and did it directly. Also a daft one as Andy did this, did you solder to pad S2 instead of S1, and there is no mixer for it on the motors section? Yea, Andy did that had an issue too lol Alex, Matt
RagTheNutsOff
Following up - not sure if it worked, or I just wasn’t doing something correctly. Tried calibrating by plugging USB in, motors, sliders to 100%. Plugged the battery in, beeps, dragged down, beeps again. Now it works... It’s good enough for me, and may help someone else!
I'm undecided. Is the pnp the better way to go and but it still needs a camera vtx and GPS?
The motor/ESC/servos are good. I have the same ones on the Dart 250g. If you want a similar setup, you'll need FPV, a Flight Controller and a GPS unit. Matt
Do you have an INAV pasting for the ZOHD Orbit?
Hey Liz, I'm afraid not. Matt
I showed my wife your video in the hopes she will let me order one and spent the next fifteen minutes explaining what rags the nuts off means.
Think it would fly and fit a DJI air unit?
I'm sure you could squeeze one in there, whether you should or not though is a diff question as you would defo have CG issues. Matt
can i know where u get power vtx? from FC? i want to used 1000mw VTX that power from FC can support it? or that output V form FC is direct
Mine is direct from the FC. However check how much current that VTX is set to pull as you may take your FC down. Matt
@@RagTheNutsOff what the max current?
built the Drift but cant get rth speed to go faster, not fast enough to even keep it flying
Every time I watch your channel my wallet gets a little lighter. When will I learn.
your GPS have compass? the compass connected to FC?
Howdy no, it's not needed for fixed wing models. Matt
@@RagTheNutsOff hii man.. thank you for adive
where do you bay the lam
Hey Jim, on Amazon on 75M rolls. See the video series I did on laminating. Matt
@@RagTheNutsOff Thanks
I was going to get the drift but bought the £19.99 jet fighter that I saw advertised at the beginning of the vid. Na not really, got the drift.
Lol! Didn't get to fly mine today, was mental busy with the usual chaos. However already seen the weather for this week and she'll be up! Matt
You need a folding prop
Hey James, I never, ever use them. They're too much of an issue to get right and would be ineffective on a model like this too (too much weight and I run powered 99% of the time). Matt
That is some serious flight time..our troops should invest in some for surveillance.
But you know the military one would cost a million each 🤦🏼♂️
950k just for you 😁👍
Bargain I will take two one to open. one for the collection mint in box 😜
The antenna aliexpress.com/item/32841340687.html ?
Also why are you saying it is not a Matek while it is ? :D
Its definitely not Matt
@@RagTheNutsOff hahahah
Would the pastebin settings work on the Eaching Razor?
Wish they got the CG right...it’s not fly able as stated...way too tail heavy
Here I go spending money again...
Lol, sorry!
Want. Nip off to check bank account...
