First off, I'm sorry this happened! Please contact our customer service and they'll get that KeyMo replaced. When it allowed that initial failure, it most likely happened because the collar wasn't threaded all the way on. After it sees the stress of being shot off the gun and some lugs have sheared like that, then may not necessarily want to tighten down properly again on your mounts. The clicking is the detent ring and it sounds like those were stripped too. Send it in and we'll fully replace the unit. When you send it in, please add a not that says "save for Todd Magee". I'd like to inspect it. Thanks!
@@richardbonner1674 Nope. Both are full penetration welded. The laser one is definitely cleaner looking and has far less heat induced into the part, so it's inherently straighter. That's not to say the the full TIG aren't straight, but we were able to tighten up the process for the TIG (and military ones) by using both laser and then a final TIG pass. Every military one undergoes extra inspections and it is mounted up and checked for runout before shipping as well. In the end, they all have to pass the same runout spec.
Man I was going to get a keymo just cause they seemed like a great product. But to see the people that make their product stand behind everything. It's truly great to see
Why are you backing off the can and then retightening it? That’s not how you are suppose to use keymo system. You put it on and tighten it and thats it. You did not allow the keymo system to fully un-tension itself and that’s why you only got 1 click retightening it. This is user error.
Yea I was wondering about that too. Edit: The more I watch I'm convinced this is his problem. He only un-tensions it a single click so the 3 lugs don't have the room to fully seat clockwise when he goes to retighten it, which could easily explain how he blew it off the front.
there's a certain locking mechanism in the locking collar that holds the suppressor to the muzzle mount. if you don't tighten that locking collar all the way down before you try to screw the suppressor on, you'll have an unsecure device like what you referenced. dead air has videos on trouble shooting and fixing this
Sounds like you weren't paying attention to your equipment and probably had the collar ring set wrong. As you said you did maintenance that morning. Operator error
I'm in a predicament where my muzzle device doesn't fit on my keymo and dead air said they have a newer version of the keymo, and if you send the old one in they'll replace the old one. I'm in the process of doing that now.
....... you have to clean it man ...... just like anything else. clean your muzzle device and clean the keymo and make sure you put a light layer of lube on the muzzle device to help keep suppressor gunk from really sticking. you need to heat it up and then clean the shit out of it, your keymo is filthy and caked with carbon build up
I only had the endcap strike for the same issue you had. Lucky I had the 308 end cap on it while I was shooting my AR. I too have to get that extra click before she's locked in.
Just had this happen with my suppressor, ive shot roughly 5 to 7k through it and just 2 days ago, it got baffle striked, i always double check that mine is tight so it was user error, but mine got blown off at full tight and i have no clue how, now the keymo adapter wont truly lock and im sending my can to yhm to get looked at
Your locking collar needs to be tightened down on the can one more full turn. Deadair has a video on this I can even see a larger gap on your locking collar than there is on my keymo
@Lynx Actual oh yea my brain is deff fucked up. Because my thought process was, maybe his locking collar is loose and hes doing it wrong, then if you read his response he said he did ti one more full turn and it was still loose. Well then my first comment isnt the case....its obviously defective then. Yea why dont you read the whole thread because clearly your brain isnt working to tell
I had a baffle strike last month on my griffin Optimus. I was switching from 223 to a 9 mm AR pistol and I use griffin taper mount and that bitch was hot so I’m just about sure I didn’t get it tight enough and it come loose off the taper and I got some thread wobble. The 9mm took out a few baffles but can wasn’t damaged. Griffin took care of it no charge. I got it back last week but I’m “sketchy” as u say about shooting with it. I’m sure it’s good but don’t want that again. So what was your end result ?
I use the Dead Air Keymo system along with the Energetic Armament VOX S and soon to be LUX6.5. I have (6) Dead Air muzzle brakes, various 1/2-28 and 5/8-24 threads. I think I discovered what had happened to your Keymo. Here is Dead Air explaining what happens if the collar is not tightened to start with: ruclips.net/video/1w9DVYZ0P6M/видео.html
I concur.... it’s the keymo..... my Sandman S locks up consistently after 1.5 turns.... 4 different hosts..... gonna share this video with a armorer I work with to see if he has some input..... great vid... just sub’d
I would only use the Sandman series on 5.56 and up. The Wolfman is probably better suited for a couple shots of 5.56/300BO at best. Even on a 9mm sub gun it will loosen up after a couple mags.
Wtf are you talking about. Wolf man is full auto rated for 300bo. And it works fantastically, I also run it on my mpx…zero issues. And I use key micro on both….. I’ve got no personal experience with the sandman so I can’t speak to that, but I do have a nomad 30 that I also use on 5.56, 223, and 6.8 spc. I’d like to pick up a dedicated 5.56 can eventually but for now, those 2 are working just fine
@@sethrockwood I used the spanner wrenches to tighten the key micro to the suppressor body and I’ve had no issues. Also sent an email to DA asking if full auto 5.56 would be ok, and they said”send it!”
Sent mine back because mine wouldn’t come off without taking the fucking flash hider with it! Just shot a bunch today with replacement parts and same deal. Pretty annoyed but I think it’s the keymo system just isn’t that good

Is there strength differences between your laser welded sandman vs the MIl version thats tig welded?

Question for you. Between the Dead air and the Nox what are the differences.
NOX is a little longer for 13.7” barrels to reach 16”.
I think direct thread is the way to go anymore
Direct tread is OK.. unless you are running a 13.7 or 14.5 and don't want to go thru ATF's BS
I could be wrong, but it looks like you're using a crush washer on a couple of those hosts.

Agreed.
That said, the Xeno setups I got from DA have been excellent. A few thousand rounds through it between a few different rifles.
Xeno adapter is the way to go.
I have heard the Jmac muzzle devices can have issues with Deadair cans
If Todd Magee reached out to you. He will make it right as he is a engineer for DA
Ya my sandman and my dead air breaks don't do that, definitely a little sketchy
He doesn't have a Sandman, that is why this happened.
Could be operator error
This thread has aged well…
Your sketched out? 🧐
Started the process of going KeyMo, lately been thinking of shifting gears to the Xeno
My sandman s did this too
Just need to tighten the keymo dead air talks about this in their videos
You blew the can off your rifle. I'm not sure what you're expecting.
I'm expecting all my muzzle devices to work with the newly purchased keymo adapter. Pretty simple.
