This is great work, but I'm pretty sure Jeffrey's playing Am not C. So the main riff is Em G Am Bm. Also, the quicker "chorus" riff Jeffrey plays is Em G Am Em (over "Be exactly who you want to be" for example). I'm pretty sure Crass just play or at least imply E5 B5 A5 B5 for that.
@@wychwoodmusic you're absolutely right! Revisiting this video after all this time: I've actually been playing Em G C Am, but Jeffrey really does play Em G Am Bm. I feel any of the three can work, but Am Bm maybe does sound more mournful than C Am or C Bm to me :). I'll admit my personal favorite is still C Bm, though.
@@benperet Cool, yeah, I reckon the "right" way to pick up a Crass/Jeffrey/punk song is having some idea of what's happening in the original version but ultimately play it however sounds best to you and whatever falls comfortably under your fingers
@pidza21 I know exactly what punk was about and I wasn't saying that anger is the ONLY way to express a message. But the orginal version *was incredibly angry and not just a 'chilled out' singalong. I t's not like they were'nt littered with swear words and were going to be played on Radio 1...the songs were the way they were for a reason. That's not to say it's impossible to do slower versions of songs, this just didn't work IMO.
@ThePoliticsOf what isn't punk about this? punk was mostly killed by horrendous s. california skatepunk and the mainstream coopting of punk fashion (which has been going on since 1977 or so)

@pidza21 well it didn't work for you. And I agree , the original version is something else entirely..but for those who don't like the abrasive sound of punk...this version works too.
Meh, it's nothing on the original... Don't get me wrong, I like Jeffery Lewis but this is a bit of an insult to Crass, it's way too twee for what is one of my favourite songs ever...
What an odd thing to want to do to Crass... Hearing all the words was the one good thing about this mysterious cover ...the question is why on earth did they do this ?
Because the lyrics are great and arguably the best part of the original. Actually Jeffrey Lewis is a huge fan of crass and wanted to cover their music.
Musically not THAT bad but 10000% missing the point. Crass were a very angry band...I'm sure you could do a Girls Aloud cover of this...which would probably be similar and more to the point if we're honest. In fact - it's pointless.
