  • Using the tech disc, I discovered most of my 'nose up' putts were not actually nose up.

Nice putting. You're generating a lot of power from those difficult positions. Any tips?

I'll try to make a video soon but in the meantime here's a list of tips I shared in a reddit comment: www.reddit.com/r/discgolf/comments/1cv3bbg/comment/l4ott4f/?

@@disc-golf-neil I call what you describe in that writeup a "kettlebell swing putt" because the hip power is exactly like swinging a kettlebell. Have you ever done kettlebell swings? Kyle Klein is a great example of "kettlebell putting."

@@sabrewolf479 I've felt that before from hurling a big rock from between the legs, lol. How about Ricky, he does it too, right?

@@disc-golf-neil Yes, Ricky is probably the best putter that uses that style, but if you replaced Rick's putter with a kettlebell, his weight is way to far forward. You could almost replace Kyle's putter with a kettlebell. I'm not criticizing Ricky's form. Obviously a putter weighs much less than a kettlebell, but when I saw Kyle putt, I thought, "his hips are doing a kettlebell swing." With Ricky, I noticed his arm swing so much that I never noticed his hips.

Ricky has some interesting comments on putting and he seems to claim that he doesn't really putt nose down but everybody thinks that he does. He expressed it in podcast with Humphries ruclips.net/video/B5Gj8OU2-fI/видео.htmlsi=gtsw1j1LeM5_mohZ&t=756. He is definitely right about the fingers under the flight plate, but the nose angle isn't as straight forward...

All my spush putts that fly like his are very nose down even when it looks nose neutral. It's very deceptive because when you loft the putter up, if the nose is parallel to the ground, that is very nose down in relation to a steep upwards pendulum like launch.
But it often doesn't fly like it's nose down because the launch angle and the nose angle cancel each other out at the apex and allow it to float down instead of dive down.
Even in these long glidey putts it is obviously nose down: i.imgur.com/lW4q6DY.png
It's just confusing, even to pros because they just use terms intuitively and not super precise and analytically most of the time since it's simpler to communicate.
People don't realize that spush putts from low backswings are usually naturally nose down, you have to try hard to make them nose up. So when people say 'you putt nose down' they think, 'what? I'm definitely not trying to make it nose down so I don't think so..' But it happens organically due to the stroke's mechanics. You don't have to pour the tea or anything to make it nose down.

@@disc-golf-neil yea youre right, the terminology is often misused or at the least confusing. However some pros understand that grip is very important. I just saw Randon Latta on jomez and he spends half of his putt making sure the his grip is correct

if the putt goes in, IDGAF how it get there. any deep dive into this is wasted time

If it goes in but you don’t know how to replicate it because you don’t understand what mechanics resulted in the flight you got, that could be an issue, but otherwise I agree.
Some people think they know how to putt nose up but aren’t actually doing it by the definition of nose angle in relation to the launch angle and if they learned this, it would unlock another option in the putting toolkit. That happened to me recently, which lead to this vid and more putts made from difficult position by having more options.
A player that intuitively understands this at a high level though, it doesn’t matter of course, in that they can execute either version. But they might not be able to teach the difference well if they don’t have a clear idea, like, ‘idk, I just kinda do this’.
Of course, people learn differently too. My videos are more for people who like to supplement their learning with a detail oriented approach.
It works for me and probably similarly minded people. My putting is starting to click, and diving deep has resulted in me being comfortable with multiple styles of putting with all angles (hyzer, anhyzer, high/low launch angle, nose up/down, from knees, lazers/stabs, soft bids, etc.) and it helped me get my first MA2 second place finish two weekends ago, first place the following weekend (72 over rating), then this weekend first again and I attribute a lot of my progress to diving deep for most of the 8 months I’ve been playing.
