Replace all writers' rooms with existing novels worth optioning. Writing by committee doesn't work when everyone coming out of college shares the same brain.
At least the old Disney strike was about Walt lessening his perfectionist mindset. Universal robbed him of control over his 1st cartoon star, Oswald, so he wanted full control of his own studio. Current Disney couldn't care less about quality; just appeasing their activist cult.
What’s interesting is that the DGA the directors and SAG deals are up in June as well. So you could possibly have the Directors, writers and actors all striking at the same time. This could get very interesting.
Gods, I hope that happens!!! This might give other movie companies outside the Hollywood dystopia scene the chance they need to replace Hollywood!!! Daily Wire for all their political posturing makes great films! Run, Hide, Fight, and Terror in the Prarie were great films free of propaganda.
What did the writers expect? They thought Disney was something like "on their side" because some execs didn't like DeSantis's bill? Disney is a factory, nothing more. The writers are a cog.
It isn't just a "Desantis bill". Yes, he endorsed it, but it had to go through the legislature and pass. We shouldn't have to legislate common sense, but the evil out there is being promoted through the Democrat party.
I am for the firing of all of them. None of them know how to write, keep coming up with reboots, keep piling on the woke stuff. I don't feel bad for the writers or the companies.
I once told my boss everyone was underpaid. He was shocked and asked me to clarify. I said “if we were over paid we would be fired”… he stopped complaining about the kid asking for a raise
I was in a company that introduced a "lost leader" concept into the company. This is the concept of providing a product BELOW COST so they could attract a customer to purchase a HIGH VALUE product. So, if an item cost $100, the company charged $95, so they could have the customer buy something that cost $500 for $1000. They wanted me to follow the policy, which I did. But when I did, the General Manager then accused me of losing money for the company. I was let go, even though I followed THEIR DOCUMENTED policy.
What’s crazy is that last time it was unfair. Nobody deserved it only this time not only does. Hollywood deserve to go bankrupt. Along with other companies, and businesses for going far left leaning and woke, and E.S.G., Black rock scores, but mainly because no one cares any more and I think it’s fair to say that it’s time has come.
I hate reality TV but maybe this time it’ll finally hurt major companies financially, and to be honest, they really deserve it, especially for trying to shove political nonsense on the majority general public citizens
I see lot of supporters say something like “remember how bad your TV shows and movies got after the last strike? If you don’t support the strike now then that’s what will happen”. But they don’t realize that entertainment now is that bad. It’s been terrible for almost a decade since political activists took over. Quality could only improve from all of these writers being fired
If they don't want to be spoken to like children? Then they need to act like adults & get back to work or quit for something with better pay. This strike will get them nowhere & do nothing but expose their narcissism.
These people were inserting "the message" into much of our entertainment rather than actual good stories and call people bigots for not standing for it. No sympathy if they get fired.
You do realize that the guild has all types of writers. They can do crap like She-Hulk or good stuff like Maverick. The good ones and the bad ones are on strike.
@@nnickplays9713 Well they are there to control the companies to push the propaganda even if it is against profits. This uneasy parasitic relationship might be at an end.
But the studios are also politically obsessed, so they will instead just hire the next cheap generation of politically obsessed writers … all with the added benefit of paying them less.
Fire them all. Clean slate. It sucks for the few good writers that are being harmed by this mandated strike. But 90% of them are woke political activists trying to jam their politics and ideologies into their work without any subtlety or nuance.
It might be time for these “writers” to learn a trade, like plumbing. They’d be good at plumbing because of all the shit they’ve pushed through the years.
This strike gives other movie companies outside the Hollywood dystopia scene the chance they need to replace Hollywood!!! Daily Wire for all their political posturing makes great films! Run, Hide, Fight, and Terror in the Prarie were great films free of propaganda.
RHF isn't for me but after watching Terror on the Prarie, yeah that's not exactly correct. Sure it didn't have leftist commie propaganda, but to say it had no propaganda is absolutely false. It's just that it was, a) propaganda for actually good values, and b) not absolutely ham-fisted like Hollywoke's stuff.
I tend to find the best way to get people to go back to work, stop striking or come back to reality is to threaten their wages and future prospects of future work. Suddenly many get back into line and get back to work. Or you could just find and hire replacements instead to take over from the strikers.
Maybe some indie authors can finally be given a chance for adaptation as a result of this nonsense. Plenty of us out here who'd be willing to give it a try, and to do it without demanding 3+ assistants or co-writers, which cuts costs....
Considering the economic situation (2400 US banks on the verge of collapse) and such, its adorbs these Cali people believe they can preempt it all for their cause.
"obliged to continue your salary" -- this has to be the most arcane way to say "fired" that I've ever seen! 🤣 "No no, sir, you're not fired. We're just no longer obliged to continue paying your salary"
At some point for our system to work, big corporations have to fail and new businesses need to crop up and take their place. This new crop will battle it out until a few behemoths remain, then those behemoths stagnate and fail, and the cycle continues. The worst thing is for government interventions to happen to save the behemoths. We need to get back to a time when corporate mergers were the exception and not the norm, and we actually took monopolies seriously.
Walt Disney only fought unions because the particular ones he had to deal with in his day weren't about reasonable working conditions but were just spiteful and/or communist efforts to take him down. I would side with Walt over most any union any day. Disney employees wouldn't have had their jobs at all if Walt hadn't worked so hard to realize his creative vision. He did ask his people to work very hard, but never harder than he himself worked. They should have been grateful to him.
I’ve seen people unironically say that a cashier works harder than a CEO. The newer generations have no idea how the economy or even basic businesses function.
The funniest thing I saw about the strike was Hasan 'supporting' the strike by buying them pizza for the strikers only to be trolled by the Elden Ring kid saying he loves landowners. Nice of Hasan to guy them pizza when he basicly stream their work for free and make money off it.
What gets me is the fact that many writers have inserted themselves into shows as producers and show runners over the years (how else did JJ Abrams end up producing shows? *hint hint*), which means you have a kind of incestuous situation going on here. They scream about how they aren’t being paid enough as writers, yet they pull down up to $10,000 a week as one of the three dozen co-executive producers on a given show nowadays (none of whom add to the watchability of these shows). These same types go into strike as writers completely forgetting their other responsibilities as producers (which have NOTHING to do with writing). To me, it’s nothing more than a modern-day shell game, those involved being on both sides of the table. So yeah- this strike will not be like the one in 2007 (which I just-barely survived as below-the-line crew). This one will be much MUCH worse.
Just to make sure I fully understand this… over the last 2-3 years EVERYONE has been complaining about how bad the writing is on every single production (movies & tv) that comes out of “woke” Hollywood and those responsible for creating such garbage are striking because they feel they deserve more money and benefits for doing such terrible work!?! I’m sorry, but what a golden opportunity to clean house a get rid of all of these hacks!
Of all the times for writers to go on strike, this was absolutely the wrong time, HR departments are absolutely salivating at the propect of easy dismissals.
At this point, studios have nothing to lose by firing all of their current writers and just hiring new ones. The quality of content both theatrically and on streaming networks can be counted on both hands. One day, they might wake up to see the actual truth: audiences don't want activism, they want entertainment. Period.
Mid to low tier writers: "we're striking for better pay for all the work we do and to not be replaced by AI" Executives who didnt know how goos chat gpt is getting : "Wait we could replace you with AI? Now theres an idea"
They are NOT creative writers, but Wokesters and Activists. I hope they all have to find new careers like working for San Francisco Department of Sanitation Human Feces pooper collector.
Or better yet maybe this finally will hurt companies not just Disney, but Lucas film, Pixar, marvel, studios, Amazon streaming services, cable networks, and above all news channels, especially the ones that lie and spread a false narrative
Can you imagine if Paramount? Nickelodeon, universal, dark horse, comics, novels, and other books, etc. finally are going to be hit where it hurts the most? It would be nice.
Oh no the "Writers" what we gonna do without their creative minds to teach us about diversity and gender? We gonna have actually good stories again? Oh no...
9:49 "If you are engaged to provide non-WGA services but happen to be a WGA member - for example, as a Director, Actor or Producer - Disney will defend and indemnify you from any fines levied against you," If true that is pretty reasonable of them considering the WGA overreach.
The gods of Mount Hollywood are slowly becoming mere mortals and are desperately trying to keep their divinity by begging the Old Ones for salvation, little do they realize that once the Old Ones have their Tendrils in Mount Hollywood they will rebuild the Pantheon.
We can only hope that the executive management in Hollywood will use this to clear up all the activists "writers" and never hire them again. Now on to HR, Marketing and all showrunners hired within the last 8 years. Then the company directors like KK, Feige, Salt, etc. Let them all go and bring back people that care about the paying customers, their co-workers, the actual content and the history of franchises.
A failed strike can mean they can lower wages of future employees as well as those on strike. Using chatgpt, contractors, rehashed, offering opportunities are all tools. Plus they lose being paid when on strike Striking is not always best.
This isn't that hard to figure out. Wanting more for doing less, not providing ratings, not a problem solver, you're a dime a dozen. These are the same writers that told coal workers and oil riggers to learn to code, apparently some did and learned that most writers sound the same. They created a program that can duplicate writers, so maybe the writers should take their own advice and learn to code. Great writers will always have work, the clones ride coattails and those are being cut.
It is illegal to fire them for a "protected" strike. The issue is, you can still fire them for other reasons. This is a case of "other reasons". For example you can be fired due to an on going sexual harassment investigation if it started before the strike, and it continued into the strike. Or if your job was terminated regardless of the strike, such as preplanned downsizing, the loss of positions due to the strike causing sufficient loss of work or finances, drop in demand for a position, or because you were under a contract that expired anyways (never strike before your contract expires), an external contract being up and not renewed reducing positions, or if you had a contract that specified non-union duties you failed to perform (in this case you strike on part of your job, but not other parts. Effectively going to "work by rule" doing the bare minimum required for your other responsibilities) A strike can also be unprotected, such as if you strike for illegitimate reasons (based on certain laws), for too long, or if you strike despite a union agreement not to or without enough union support. In that case perfectly legal to fire everyone for striking. Showrunner producer-writers are being told "you can refuse to write, but you have to do the non-writer part of your job".
I'm torn. This is a scummy move by the studios but these unions are asking for too much without proper leverage. Very few union bosses know what they are doing without being sellouts.
And now you see Teddy Roosevelt's dilemma with the Coal Miner Strike. He detested both the unions and the corporate executives. Plague on BOTH their houses!
Explain to me why if you are not on strike you would expect the studio to pay you for not showing up to work. BTW aren't the writers the same ones that have written all the bad shows and movies over the last 5 years? They can strike until 2024. No one will miss them.
Hollywood should write their own AI called "Woke AI" that writes the script, creates the character illustrations, ensures that the characters are Diverse and Inclusive, does the cast choosing, berates fans on Twitter and ensures everything is ESG compliant.
It might take the AI a whole day to realize how fake (and worse) the woketards are, and then it would turn on them. Okay... you're right... they ought to create it.
Somebody recently mentioned that you can’t copyright the product of an AI in the US (I don’t know if this is true, but sounds possible). Furthermore, every writer who’s work was fed into the AI may even have a case to sue the company using the AI. So far AI is used as a toy, all the legal ramifications if billions of box office are connected to it haven’t been sorted out yet.
Sad thing is, I agree with them about stopping AI. Us being replaced by computers even in our entertainment is scary. But they really did pick the worst timing, and needed to pick better fights.
After She-Hulk, where a Lead Writer destroyed an iconic character and a entire series to fulfill a personal vendetta plus the existence of the CW, I’m not on the writer’s’ side. The herd needs to be thinned and a point needs to be made. Colleges are vomiting out uneducated activists so this would be a good time to send a message that is loud enough to reach current teachers and future writers.

You have to understand the screen actors guild is about to strike for the exact same things. The actors want the writers to get what they want so they get the same. The writers aren't going to get what they want... the actors will probably walk to no matter what. Hopefully they are all on strike all year.

At least the old Disney strike was about Walt lessening his perfectionist mindset. Universal robbed him of control over his 1st cartoon star, Oswald, so he wanted full control of his own studio. Current Disney couldn't care less about quality; just appeasing their activist cult.
These "Writers" are very replaceable.
FACTS
Of course, since they all have the same programming.
Replaceable with more woke writers.
Those are called “scabs”.
What’s interesting is that the DGA the directors and SAG deals are up in June as well. So you could possibly have the Directors, writers and actors all striking at the same time. This could get very interesting.
Oh, no! Anyway….

What did the writers expect? They thought Disney was something like "on their side" because some execs didn't like DeSantis's bill? Disney is a factory, nothing more. The writers are a cog.
It's all an act at the corporate level.
Blaming the grunts instead of themselves for their own policies. At least Costco knows how to do loss-leaders right.
Those "writers" were doing a terrible job anyway. Now they're just giving the studios a good reason to fire them.
The last writers' strike gave us a ton of reality TV. They basically lost work last time and it looks like they aren't going to win this time, either.
Can't wait for a new spate of programming depicting the trashiest people on earth as representatives of "Reality"...
So these writers on strike are nothing but woke writers? Figures.
You do realize that the guild has all types of writers. They can do crap like She-Hulk or good stuff like Maverick. The good ones and the bad ones are on strike.
So are progressives still gonna stan for these companies?
What they will do, is what they're told to do.
Gold medal in mental gymnastics
Probably, corporate sellouts.

Don't they always double down?
Pretty much artists who aren't politically obsessed could easily replace them. Heck even cancelled creators could.
ComicsGate Productions inbound!

I agree. The big ones must innovate or die. "Creative destruction" as one anthropologist described it.
Used to be that shows contributed to pop culture. Now all these shows only damage culture.
I think even Walt Disney was in favor of the Pinkerton's it's a miracle he didn't use them on Commie backstabber unions forming in that time.
Walt was 100% correct about commie infiltration. Just like McCarthy was.
I’ve seen people unironically say that a cashier works harder than a CEO. The newer generations have no idea how the economy or even basic businesses function.
So would I. To Hell with Meryl Streep and that traitorous grand niece that sided with her on the terrible things said.
Looks like Hollywood is going to write the ending to their careers.
The funniest thing I saw about the strike was Hasan 'supporting' the strike by buying them pizza for the strikers only to be trolled by the Elden Ring kid saying he loves landowners. Nice of Hasan to guy them pizza when he basicly stream their work for free and make money off it.
I am anti-union but I support the Ones that actually look out for workers. This Union is doing it's best to get em fired.
The last writer's strike got us reality tv. I wonder what great new thing will come from this one....

If this happened 10 years ago, i would fully support the writers, but current day and it movies and series, i just don't care.
At this point, studios have nothing to lose by firing all of their current writers and just hiring new ones. The quality of content both theatrically and on streaming networks can be counted on both hands. One day, they might wake up to see the actual truth: audiences don't want activism, they want entertainment. Period.

We can only hope that the executive management in Hollywood will use this to clear up all the activists "writers" and never hire them again. A failed strike can mean they can lower wages of future employees as well as those on strike.
Using chatgpt, contractors, rehashed, offering opportunities are all tools. Plus they lose being paid when on strike
Striking is not always best.
I am flabbergasted that these writers who have literally run all the viewers away with their horrible products actually think they deserve a raise.
Ha! See if i give any sympathy to those who are destroying our beloved franchises and stories.
Nowadays we have AI that can write better scripts.
Isn’t illegal to fire someone during a strike?
Effectively going to "work by rule" doing the bare minimum required for your other responsibilities)
A strike can also be unprotected, such as if you strike for illegitimate reasons (based on certain laws), for too long, or if you strike despite a union agreement not to or without enough union support.
"Not everybody who is in a union deserves to get paid what they are being paid"
Teachers?
Try construction work. Some factory jobs.
Tell the unions to use the money they force their members to pay for something that helps the members, not just politics.
Oh you mean all the Tumblr fan fiction "writers" are going to get fired? Sounds like a win to me.
Might be a good time to clear out the dead wood.
Not allowing small brushfires each year to clear out dead fall means massive more destructive fires years down the road
Hollywood sure knows how to go out in epic fashion.
And I say “bye ain't gonna miss ya!”
This is glorious!
