I wanna bring up a personal experience of mine working at retail:
So a lot of people who came an looked wealthy were always cheapskates, always wanted something "extra" because they made "large" purchases, they always had their credit cards almost at their limit and their general vibe was of wealthy beggars. Of course a lot of them also were making purchases with someone else's card because they themselves had theirs cancelled.
At this same store, credit was given to people of a more moderate income, the common rabble if you will. One day comes this old lady, very humble and soft spoken, a very pleasant lady. She comes to me and asks for my assistance so i provide assistance. This woman went through the store buying a fuck load of things and when i checked her client history in the store's computer, her credit capacity was monstrous and not only that, this wasn't her first time doing it. This humble old woman had a small business, but that was not the reason she had such large credit capacity, it was because she commit to pay and she had a desire to consume and all she needed was the chance to do it and this store gave her that chance.
Disney thinks the wealthy people will just shit money on top of Mickey's mouth, when the reality is that the middle class folk are the ones who keep those business alive.

I've heard that's part of the goal. Aps take up space and don't buy as much as the tourists they're trying to attract. If they can get the locals to go less or use less of the park, then they can gouge the tourists more (hence the genie+ being per day purchase vs permanent add on). So they either price people out or find a way to reduce their impact (getting then stuck in stand by).

Disneyland is very small. It's a park that seems bigger because it takes so much time in lines and crowds to get to each ride it can fool you into thinking this is some huge park. I went there for grad night in high school. There were not many people there and we did the ENTIRE park and all the rides in less than 2 hours. RIP-OFF.
It's also mostly old ass rides made in the 60s using olden style "tricks" like the haunted hotel. The dark rides are slow and lame like taking a slow ride through a chuck e cheese show. The "good" roller coasters are low level thrill kid coasters at other parks. The "main street" is a short crowded walk. Most of the park space is storefronts.
Space Mountain is outdated and SUPER LAME and splash mountain is LAME.
You cannot go into the castle. Only through it and take pictures in front of it. I was in the peter pan ride and had to smell farts and dirty diapers for an hour. It's a small world is outdated and creepy.
Maybe California Adventure is better? I don't know never been and I never heard anyone "excited" about California Adventure. No one has ever said "yay California Adventure!"
No one is missing anything fun from Disneyland unless you are interested in going into a time capsule park from the 60s.

I’ve been to DW and Epcot back in 88. Epcot was better than DW. Food back then was subpar as well. It wasn’t bad, but it was overpriced. I remember having to hop restaurants because we saw the prices on the menu. (To be fair, if it wasn’t for my brother graduating Navy boot camp, we wouldn’t have been able to afford to go otherwise.) I won a trip to universal in 93 and it was leaps and bounds better.

Unless Disney is going to build more theme parks around the country like six flags, It's time to realize that this is their trajectory. I think everyone who's old enough to remember when Disney wasn't as packed as it is today, remember it doesn't cost as much as it does today, but the problem is that it's so crowded that there's no other way to bring down the crowd numbers and also make the same amount of money, without increasing prices, then to price people out, unless you're going to kick them out.

It's actually a good testament to our economy that more people can afford a Disney vacation. Unfortunately in the future if you make less than 50k a year you can't afford it but adjust for inflation and you'd say the same thing 20 years ago at 30k a year. I just went to Disney this year and couldn't believe the cost of a beer. I really didn't spend more than the last time I went 3 years ago but I didn't drink as much beer. Raising the ticket and hotel prices, by themselves, is something I can't really get angry about. Disney parks do have a supply and demand issue, where the demand (number of people who want to go to the parks) significantly exceeds the supply (how many people the parks can reasonable accommodate). So, raising ticket prices while working to added guest capacity to the parks is the natural course of action.
What I can't excuse, however, is the constant nickel and diming of guests, which guts the experience and means that people who otherwise could afford to pay the higher prices are going to want to go somewhere else.

I'm curious, when did you go? I went to Universal in January 2020. It was a lot of fun and I'm glad I gave Disney the boot. I drank a lot of butterbeer. Oh, and Duff beer tastes great. Sorry, kids, don't try to fool them, they DO check IDs.

@@largol33t1 we went second week of January 2021. We had an amazing time. We are hoping to go back to universal next January. Hard rock was great and like a 5 minute walk to universal studios.

We cancelled our whole trip for the beginning of March. We could afford the trip due to planning, however, I felt nauseous at the thought of all that money being spent, when the quality just isn't there, and the thought of going makes me feel more stressed than going to work.

These Disney vloggers that keep trying to sell Disney’s magic to subscribers should be ashamed. There are much better vacations to go on beside Disney for the money. Do your kids a favor and show them the world and not the inside of a theme park.
Can we just all boycott Disney and the vloggers for bankrolling on all these detrimental changes.

Let Disney do it and sit back and watch as Disney looses target market after target market and one consumer demographic after the other!! If Disney are not careful they will end up with no one who can afford or could be bothered to spend on their overpriced products and experiences!! I once learned it is better to have a fair price that fills the store opposed to a high price that only a few can afford with an empty store!!

So glad I went to Disneyland in Japan years ago. It was a much more interesting experience and didn't cost me half of what they'd charge me in America now. This is absolutely absurd. I can't even imagine being a millionaire and wasting money on these abysmal experiences.

Disney is just not worth it anymore. They don’t want the Joe Shmoe with his family at their places anymore, and are just willing to give unimpressive “entertainment”. My wife and kid loves the Disneyland experience, and wanted to do the DW thing. But with prices what there were then and now, she just closes the book on that thought.

Don't forget "resort fees", which many hotels charge now, which includes things like the pool, gym, and Wi-Fi. You have to pay it, even if you don't use those "amenities". It's a scam so they can advertise a lower price.

Yeah, we're not renewing our annual passes. We can't even get a reservation for any of the parks for over a month. Ridiculous what we're paying to not be able to go to the parks, and even if we could, we can't ride anything because of the lines. We've been passholders ever since we moved to Florida 10 years ago, and sad to let the passes go, but Disney has made it obvious they don't care.

Disney needs to go back to Standby only Lines again.
Those Q lines used to hold a large portion of the people in the parks and now they are just clogging up the walkways.
I know Disney thinks they will go into shops and spend more and maybe that's true but it ruins the Park experience not being able to move.

We went last May and did not wait longer than 50 minutes during the busiest middle of the day without fast pass. Now without a Genie plus return time people are waiting so much longer , even first thing in the morning! Even worse is having to be on your phone all the time to try to book a genie plus selection if you choose to buy it!

I just cottoned on to something: The idea of "going _only_ after the whales" was the setup for "The Bank" casino in _Ocean's Thirteen..._ and it didn't really work out all that well there. Albeit there's no Danny Ocean and his crew to undermine it. Disney seems to be seeing themselves as Mafiosi in old Las Vegas and it's legal what they're doing. So sad. 😞

Still holding a grudge on the premature cancellation of the rebooted Ducktales. 4 Seasons woulda been perfect, each session focusing on 1 of the kids. Instead we got a rushed 3rd season where it focused on both Huey and Webby which left each of them getting less screen time.
