OMG this was in 1952?! Wow. She and Celibidache had amazing musical collaborations - I think they met in Mexico - she did not want to meet him especially but she conceded. He told her "you're going to play the Beethoven with me tomorrow", and she did, and the rest was history.
Ida Haendel on Celibidache: "Sergiu had it all," she muses, "a fantastic sense of humour, four doctorates in philosophy, psychology, higher mathematics and musicology - and then music, which was his life and mine. And a good heart - he would give the shirt off his back if someone needed it. He was a Buddhist - and also a little bit eccentric, but maybe so am I. He remains to me an idol and a genius."
I agree, I´ve got CD compilation and there are the recording was on 6.3.1953, Abbey Road Studios London. EMI Records Ltd. This Brahms was really Brahms. And the cadenza I think Joachims was brillant. Thank you for recording there.

dear Ida has left this world for the next, to play for the angels now -- she was a friend and we spent many hours sharing our love of music....

The only thing is, that there is no trace of even ONE doctorate...which does not make him smaller...
Fantástica Ida Haendel!
An incredible interpretation of the piece. Enjoyed every second.

What masterwork!
I think the correct date is 1953!
Is this or is this not a frontrunner for the best Brahms Concerto?!
It is indeed !
Yeah. EMI 'His master's voice' The only record in studio by celi
I think he must have had an affair with her otherwise I cannot understand the fast tempi here... With Menuhin he played it so much slower...
slower means nothing. Heifetz played fast- and he was God's violinist
