@@dontaedon5182It’s a character that appears in the Archie Comics (but first appeared in the SatAM cartoon), and due to licensing and also the person who “owns” (or _claims_ to own) the character and the other Archie Sonic characters being… let’s just say an unsavory person, they can’t use them anymore (even Sally).

@@GamesCage I'd be willing to see if they do a story focused game these days, but Mario and Sonic's level design philosophy kind of differs heavily from one another. At best, they'd probably do a Forces with Mario and Sonic getting their own individual stages and the tag team stages from Forces returning (with Mario taking the place of the custom character).

@@Signerdragon123That's always how imagined it as well, but I think it can definetly work, especially the tag team sections. Mario's control can help with tighter platforming sections and Sonic can be able to go through more open areas quickly. You can switch between characters to utilize their strengths.

Im a 2004 kid. Growing up with Sonic in Brawl, the olimpic games, SMBZ and having Mario and Sonic games on the Wii and DS. I though Mario and Sonic were always like buddies. So I will never understand how excited fans of these two series must have felt when they finally cross over.
Now that this series is over can we get a Mario and Sonic cross over in a different genre ? Platformer or RPG would be incredible.

The Mario & Sonic series is one of the weirdest things to me. Like having Mario and Sonic in a game together sounds so fucking cool yet they decided the best genre for them to be in is a sport game collection. But besides that I’m sad to see it go, there’s so many memories with the franchise that so many people had and I’m sure they could’ve added more to the formula. But maybe this will lead us to having an actual Mario and Sonic crossover, who knows

Nintendo could never agree on a proper way to do a crossover Sonic game with SEGA. They only allowed these games to be made because SEGA managed to get ahold of the Olympic license to make games.
London Olympics was peak as hell, and as a kid I was obsessed with the unique Rio win animations, I’m gonna miss this series unironically

I remember reading somewhere that they did say the last one was the last one but I didn't want to believe it, it's just fun watching these two crossover. The least they could do is make a genuine crossover game between the two

IDK how you'd be able to do a proper platformer crossover given how very different these series play outside of the basic genre, so I hope you like a Mario + Rabbids-esque RPG, or a Double Dash-type game.
I liked how all the characters matched each other to an extent:
Mario and Sonic = Main heroes
Luigi and Tails = Sidekicks that overcome their fears
Peach and Amy = Love interests/pink girly-girls
Yoshi and Knuckles = Jungle island dwellers
Wario and Shadow = Motorcycle riding rivals/anti-heroes
Waluigi and Silver = Losers that never give up
Daisy and Blaze = Fiery princesses debuted on hand-held consoles
DK and Vector = Big strong guys (surprised DK never mistook Vector for a kremling)
Bowser and Eggman = Main villains
Bowser Jr and Metal Sonic = The main villain's right hand son/product

The streets NEED a new Mario & Sonic crossover game. I pray for them to have a game in the Mario & Luigi series with Sonic and Shadow. Those four teaming up would be pure fanservice and we know damn well it’d sell like crazy. The goofy ahh attacks of Mario & Luigi mixed with the stylish and cool attacks of Sonic and Shadow would make me combust. 😭😭😭

Man, this is so devastating. I remember finding out about the 2008 game after walking into a GameStop and seeing it sitting on the shelf. I loved that game on the Wii. I was so excited when I found out they were making a winter Olympics version of the game for 2010. Every year they released a new game, I always made sure it was on some sort of gift list for a holiday. I felt slightly concerned about the series in 2018 when nothing released, then nothing for 2022. This was such a big series for me growing up, and it will always be something I look back on fondly, even if the final few entries were not as good as the first few entries.
All I want is a minigame collection where they take Mario/Sonic levels and areas and turn them into sort of "theme park attractions" like how London 2012 did with it's Dream Events.

There was something magical about that Career mode in Winter 2010 and the London Run mode from 2012. The Dream events were so crazy and fun and that's without mention the crazy dumb story mode on DS for Winter 2010. This spinoff falled down because they realized making a new Olympics game every 2 years was rough without just repeating everything + ports. We barely get a Sports title per Console and 2-3 Mario Party's, no way we needed that many. Olympics 2020 went the worst way, trying a "retro" road as the main selling point to cloak the fact they really didn't want to spend that much on an Olympics game and the clash between 8-Bit Mario and 16-Bit Sonic looks out of an old 2000's Newgrounds animation

Considering how much of a shitshow the Paris Olympics are and the whole river controversy, I'm more than happy the serie ends here with the Tokyo 2020 one... Which is a very fitting end, ending on the country that birthed both the Mario and Sonic franchises.

@@GamesCage there was a big drama going on about the swimming event taking place in the seine since it is unsanitary (think of poop bacteria and stuff) so the goverment used alot of expensive supplies to "clean" the water(over 1 bill) what made alot of people mad since the money could have been used for something more usefull so president Emmanuel Macron and the mayor of paris Anne Hidalgo said they would swim in the seine to proof it was clean so the french protested against this by pooping into the seine to make the already unsanitary water (that was claimed to be clean) even more unsanitary😂 there was even a website where u could calculate the time ur poop would arrive in the seine

This is something that our generation could talk to our own little gamers saying, “y’know, Mario and Sonic were in the same game at one point.” The first winter games was my personal favorite. Still have it to this day. Man what a time for iconic characters like these.

Oh, the series is done? Aww...I liked playing as Mario and Sonic characters in various Olympic minigames.
My favorite one is London 2012 on Wii. This game was the key to unlocking my increased interest in Sonic in the last decade. I love the fanservice with the Dream Events and even playing as characters such as Metal Sonic and Blaze. Further, this fueled my interest in the Boost Era of Sonic, but I'm otherwise not going to open that can of worms.
Special shout-out to Vancouver Winter Olympics on DS. That version has an entertaining story mode, where each character had a dedicated minigame. Winter 2010 in general also introduced Metal Sonic, Silver, Donkey Kong, and Bowser Jr. as full newcomers.
As you said, though, the series did fall apart after the Wii era. While I like Rio and Tokyo...both of 'em felt like they were missing something. I'll give the slight edge to Rio for having detailed descriptions for each character in the Wii U version and a bit of a festive atmosphere. Locking new characters to one event each was dumb though.
As for what Mario and Sonic should do in the future...? I'd be down with a party game. That way, you can keep the silly appeal from the Olympics while also having nice fanservice and potentially lots of playable characters.
But yeah. What an unfortunate end to one of my favorite crossovers. I will forever cherish the Olympics for bringing two of my beloved universes together.
What makes me upset is bc I wanted the idw cast's next step to be the Olympic games. Like, everyone in it is has no big story besides a profile, so that wasn't a problem, and they could make those simple so that it doesnt contradict anything and it's a good way to introduce them to more people. Like, I literally learned about Dry Bowser, Blaze and Marine from these. They could've had Tangle for uneven bars using her tail, Whisper for shooting using her wispon...
Big sad. It felt like a tradition 😭

A blunder they didn't delve more into the dream events. A shame that this franchise ended but it lost its luster so fast (pun intended), however, would love to see these two interact in another spin off setting, an RPG could be very cool (it worked for the rabbids) or a fall guys clone that is more focused on acrobatics and 3D platforming where they both can share the iconic characters and world locations!
I think now that the Olympics are over, it's time to give us something more unique. In terms of existing games, they should do something like:
Mario & Sonic Party.
Mario & Sonic All-Star Kart Racing.
Mario & Sonic the Fighters.
Although, for me, my dream game would honestly be Mario & Sonic RPG. I think it should be sometime after Brothership, but the fact that Izuka also said he wanted to make an RPG In the near future, would be a good chance to cross over with Mario and give us something insane! 🙏
You know I was about to say “if we want to keep the spirit of the Olympic Games going we as a community could come together to make some kind of fan project once every four years to celebrate Mario, Sonic, and the Olympic Games.”
But then I remembered copyright is a thing, and even if you’re giving away the game for free as just a fan game, something tells me Nintendo (and possibly the Olympics’ lawyers) wouldn’t appreciate that.

Nintendo and Sega have forgotten about Mario and Sonic
One thing I'll defo miss from the M&S Olympic Games are the insane remixes for the dream events. Genuinely the best songs in BOTH franchises.

The thing is, when the first olympic game came out both Mario and Sonic where at their late GC/experimental era and this can be seen mainly in the presentation and the dream events.
But because both series had a big change during the 2010s (sonic meta era and mario boring/safe era) this affected the series during the wiiu, both games have less charm making them look boring and not interesting to play, London wasn't affected cause it was probably developed before this big shift in tone.
IMO, paris 2024 could have been a return to form since both characters are doing great and SEGA and Nintendo aren't afraid anymore to use them more freely and pull out more wacky stuff
I really hope one day we'll see another party crossover between them hile we wait for the real crossover game

It's so sad seeing the series end. It was my favorite series out of all of the crossovers. I still play the games to this day (2008 olympics, 2010 winter olympics, 2016 olympics, and 2020 olympics). These games have really made my childhood and their the reason why both franchises are apart of my life now.
I remember being excited for Rio 2016 to be released. It's still my favorite to this day.

If this truly is the Mario and Sonic at the Olympics series' final breath, then I do hope this opens the door to a Mario and Luigi game crossing over with the Blue Blur, complete with Sonic and either Tails or Shadow as additional party members; imagine for the first quarter of the game you play as the Brothers and go against Eggman, while occasionally the POV switches to other duo as they take on Bowser, and then for the rest of the game you have all 4 fighting together.
If they did an actual platformer, however? Given the VERY different design philosophies of these series, the only way I can imagine it not feeling forced is if they made it like the tag-team stages in Sonic Forces, or they could pull a Crash Purple/Spyro Orange and make seperate games (one having Mario going through Sonic-esque levels and vice-versa), but WHERE'S THE FUN IN THAT?!
If not for Nintendo being the cowardly and pacifistic family-friendly company they are, I can imagine an MvC-esque tag-fighter between the two gaming juggernauts (with a sequel expanding the roster to Nintendo and Sega as a whole)
But yeah, realistically, I can't see these two crossing over (outside of Smash) ever again (though if anything, we might get far more Sonic reps than usual in the next Smash to make up for it).

I’m a bit disappointed the games stopped right when was Breaking/Breakdancing was added to the Olympics, but I played the only ones that mattered to me (Winter 2010/London 2012, maybe I’ll play try Tokyo 2020) so not a huge loss

Yes it’s the end of an era for the Olympics but that shouldn’t mean it’s the end of them working together and competing against each other in adventures! I wished that all the past Mario & Sonic at The Olympic Games are on Nintendo SWITCH games just like they did for mario and sonic at the olympic games tokyo 2020 because no one are playing Wii, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS anymore now that they're moving onto Nintendo SWITCH and there aren't going to be anymore released on Mario & Sonic at The Olympic Games in the future.
It's heartbreaking but I'll accept it. I'll remember the memories of me playing Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games (2008) and Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games (2010) (that the figure skating video is on my channel).

I never had that much fun playing these type of games that were in their prime like this one and including London 2012. It really is the end of an era when you can relive these nostalgic moments

With Mario + Rabbids existing and being a great series, another Mario and Sonic crossover is a matter of when, not if and thats super exciting. I do believe it will be one of the hardest games ever to "get right" due to how Mario and Sonic are completely different but also kinda similar if that makes sense? No doubt theyll find the ideal setting, genre and vibe when they get around to it, but i'm so curious as to what it'll be. I have so many fond memories of the M&S Olympics but mini-game collections forever would be wasted potential
I think this news was a bummer not because of the actual end of the games, but that they never locked in with the potential of the series. They could innovate and improve so much throughout the many iterations they had, but they just kept making the same games again and again, and so we’re left disappointed not by the end of the games, but by how much potential was lost.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Bejing 2020 was the reason why I started watching the Olympics back in 2008 with Beijing, but I never watched the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics since I was living in Dominican Republic.
I really had so much fun playing all the Mario & Sonic games on DS, Wii, 3DS, Wii U, Switch, and on Arcade at Dave & Busters, and I'm really gonna miss that Crossover so much.
Cheer up everybody! I'm planning a fanmade Olympic Games game featuring two new stars to take Mario and Sonic's place for them. One of them is me.

I remember when they/Nintendo or whatever said,that there's was gonna be no more mario and luigi games,but then they made a Mario and luigi brothership,a Mario and luigi remake/remaster for the switch,so if mario and luigi games can comeback,maybe they'll remake/remaster the old Mario and Sonic games for the switch?(2007,2008,2009,2011,2012,2014,2016,2020) there's no mario and Sonic 2021,2022,2023 or 2024 game after mario and sonic 2020
The olympics suck anymore because they are way too political nowadays.
I can confirm there is an Olympic game for Switch, but it is a cross country training game where you "work out" in very awkwardly chosen weight lifting exercises, and then run in various track and field events across the globe until you reach Paris.
I'm fine with it... Remaster the old ones.

London 2012 one was so fucking kino, it had so much soul and what felt like the most content.
Man, that sucks that the series had to come to an end. When I was little, I never thought I would ever see Mario and Sonic be together in one game. I looked at the cover of the game case and raised an eyebrow🤨 and was like, "Mario and Sonic together?" It was so surreal. Though I wish we had a REAL Crossover with Mario and Sonic, this was the best we got. But there are other options I'd go for a Mario and Sonic RPG game. I think that will be the best option
Sonic at the Olympic Games isn’t actually a recent thing, the first one was on Java phones in 2008 and they made a winter one for iPhones in 2010.

I feel like the death of the Olympic Tie-ins could give rise to a new Sports focused Sonic game series or even one with either Mario or SEGA's vast roster (like a Sonic & SEGA Sports Mix thing). Just because the Olympic license is gone doesn't mean it can't be replaced with something similar, but unique to the series. The world of sports is vast and there's so much you can do with it and the Sonic cast, so I think SEGA could do this again, just in more original settings.

The later games in this series were kinda ass, but the series definitely has that Wii game energy of being instantly fun for people of any level of game experience. A weird little series that was definitely 'of its era' but I think it'll be looked back on fondly.

I will say this: I am a top speedrunner for this game and series, and I'm not sure where that will take us. It kinda sucks that we aren't getting a new game, but at least we can optimize the games we have.

The Vancouver games is my favorite M&S game for the DS. I played that game so much. I'll always remember when this stuff was first announced and along with Sonic in Brawl, it was some of the hypest shit. I do hope there is still a Mario and Sonic crossover in the future, of course a platformer, but just having these characters interact is always a treat.
I remember playing the winter game on DS and being so confused as to why Mario and Sonic were at these game events. I never read any of the dialogue so that didn’t help, but it was cool

I’m glad it happened and I’m gonna miss it I just watched all the intros and they all give nostalgia despite not playing all of them even the music and cgi give each intro a different vibe.
Like London’s intro gives off Peak like you’re gonna have a good time playing this with how upbeat and visually pleasing it looks man. And the events and dream events were so creative and amazing.
And Tokyo has nice models and cgi but the music gives off a different vibe. And not a bad vibe more like reminiscent and peaceful vibe despite being the last one. I played 2 days ago for the first time since they had it on sale and I had fun almost cried 😢.
If you’re reading this rewatch all the intros and they’ll make you feel something…BEWARE it might make you miss your childhood.
