After a rocky start in the public opinion based on some questionable CGI choices, the first Sonic the Hedgehog movie ended up being a surprise hit- and thus, a sequel was ordered almost immediately. This time around, Sonic is joined by other fan favorites from the game- Tails and Knuckles.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 definitely raises a few questions. Like is it okay to travel internationally via portal like that? Why are we spending so much time on this sister-in-law wedding storyline? Does Sonic sometimes forget that he has superspeed? Did Sonic just kill a guy? What was up with that agency’s plan for catching Sonic and how did they think that was a good strategy?!

After watching several of these I am 100% convinced "so the movie can happen," "whoops," and "super easy, barely an inconvenience" are real things said in actual pitch meetings.

Just got home from the theater with the kids, and I gotta say that this movie is tight.
When it comes to videogame movies, Sonic is one of the incredibly rare ones that gets it right.
Also, I actually kinda hoped that there would be an after credit scene with the sister Rachel and the agent fiance.

I loved the emphasis on the wedding, and the fact they did spend so much time on it, WITHOUT any ties to Sonic. Funny, sure, but I was going "what the heck is this?" Also, I want the fat suit too (he said he'd have done it in the 2nd movie). *Finger crossed* he comes out to of retirement to make the 3rd

Fun fact about Sonic. In the games, Sonic doesn’t have a “no killing” rule. He kills gods and bad guys all the time. If eggman is gonna start shit, it’s all on him to get himself out of it.

@@Geostelar4920 Literally in the last mainline game, 2017 Sonic Forces. Sonic and the avatar kill Infinite the Jackal. It’s even confirmed in the 2021 Encyclospeedia published by Sega.
Before that was the last Mainline sonic game, 2013 Sonic Lost World when we drop Zavok in lava. The fact he survived is never explained. And for good measure, in the same game, he removed the exhaust hose off eggman’s get away jet pack having him take a Wile E Coyote type fall of thousand of feet.
In 2011 Sonic Generations, he left 2 eggman’s for dead in a timeless purgatory void.
In 2010’s Sonic colours he left eggman to die in space.
2009’s Sonic and The Black Knight, he kills King Arthur.
The mainline game before that was 2008’s sonic unleashed where as Super sonic, he lobotomized Dark Gaia.
This continues on but, you get my point. Sonic doesn’t take on the burden of protecting the bad guys. It’s a very Goku like character trait. That doesn’t mean Sonic is a merciless monster. if a antagonist want to surrender, they have literally every opportunity, but if they are dead set on hurting him and ESPECIALLY his friends/family, sonic has little room for pity. The movie absolutely NAILED this.
Quit making up fake games. There was only 4. The original trilogy and the hybrid interlocking cartridge: Sonic and Knuckles.

Well of course because Sonic the Hedgehog 2 managed to (almost) stay true to the source material while Morbius... Is just awful like... So awful that if it was a living being I would grab a sack full of quarters and just beat it to death with it.
The whole bit about the rom-com being shoved into the middle of a sonic movie was spot on. It went on for like ten minutes, and by the end of it my head was in my hands as I just said "I don't CARE"

Just like in Fairy Girl when the Justicers minus the title character were chasing a shapeshifting alien, the fourth-wall-breaking Toon Girl asked "Where's Fairy Girl?" The question gets asked again when the Justicers were preparing to save Fairy Girl's father just before Fairy Girl herself shows up late.

I think what really pulls both sonic movies together is Jim Carry. The Mask, Ace Ventura, Liar Liar, etc all follow a very similar theme where the movie has fun doing fun things, lets us get to know the characters in strange and interesting ways, and doesn't take its self too seriously. I really don't know if they can pull off a sonic 3 without him...

Regardless of Jim Carey’s presence or not, I’m curious how they might approach a next film because if that mid credit scene is anything to go by, it’s gonna get DARK.
All of me hopes that adapt it, but keep the dark points just to put emphasis on how bad things are
Well Shadow’s supposed to be in it so it’s definitely going to be dark and the the best one. Unless they give him a really off putting voice… I know it’s an unpopular opinion but I really wasn’t a fan of the new voices for Sonic and Knuckles. I grew up playing the games so it’s just not the same when they don’t sound at all like the characters I know and love. Shadow is my favorite so I’ll never forgive them if they fuck his up 😒

@@river-yuki I agree that they need to get Shadow right. Like Knuckles, he's been treated badly by the writers of Sonic games for a while. I think Sonic 06 was the last time they REALLY nailed his character.
I personally love the new voices and think they fit fine, but I understand that they do sound different from the games.

But yeah, while they're going over it, they discuss how they were getting rid of everything related to Robotnik, & they're like 'Hey, we found this experiment his grandfather was working on fifty years ago about building this lifeform or something...'"
Producer: "Ohhhh, are we finally going where I think this is going? We're gonna bring in that legendary character?"
Screenwriter: "Oh yeah! So we cut to a pod opening, and inside is-"

Not really. When actors retire, they wouldn't take another role just for the money, it has to be interesting enough, as doing it for the money is no longer necessary or enough, unless they fall on hard times

Honestly this makes Sonic a better character. First he chose imprisonment on the mushroom planet, but when that didn't work almost certain death. No third chances.
