What is YOUR Reason for Being? (Ikigai)

  • Do what you love. How can you find a job that you love and has meaning? Is it possible to do what you love and make money? Try the Ikigai exercise as Chris demonstrates to the team and applies it to a student who wants to know what to do after school.
    Ikigai:
A Japanese concept that means "a reason for being." The word refers to having a meaningful direction or purpose in life, constituting the sense of one's life being made worthwhile, with actions (spontaneous and willing) taken toward achieving one's ikigai resulting in satisfaction and a sense of meaning to life. The concept of this idea comes from a larger and more inclusive philosophy used within the Japanese traditional health system called the Wuxing that was introduced into Japan in the early 6th century from China and embraced by local folk religion and culture. • How Do I Know What I'm...
    🙌 Here is Jayden's IKIGAI:
    .
✅ I can help people to spread their message by making content and storytelling
✅ I can also try to teach and create courses that were the result of all what I learned
✅ I can also build my own business in the food industry
✅ Make a RUclips channel to try things and then show people what it feels like to do those things, what lesson did I learn.
    .
🔥 Once you figure out this thing, I would recommend you to pick one and then double down on it, go all-in with it, do it UNTIL you get it. And I am sure it will be an interesting journey for you all.

Naw no way that might actually be helpful. Schools lower the passing line so that they have a higher graduation output. Peoyin power don't want to breed critical thinkers. I don't know where you're at, but I've spent about 5 years trying to figure myself out. I wouldn't call it wasted time, it's time I needed to make big decisions and change as a person.
If you're realizing you need or want a change, then you've been doing something right! Many people stay lost forever. Pursue your goals, it's never too late as long as you're breathing.

      @clove8461 3 года назад +10

Ahmed, it's good that you know where you problem is from which is indecision. It's time to deal decisively with it. Focus on the identity you want to create for yourself. Who are you or who do you want to be known as or what do you want to be known for. I think you also need to do this ikigai exercise and then summon the will power to follow one path. The quicker you fail in one thing, the quicker you get going with the next thing until you pick the best for you. Also try to get an accountability partner. Connect with people who are already succeeding and doing exploits so you can be challenged to choose a path. I wish you well

The Futur i think you are spot on with the changes coming about too. People are taking responsibility for their own educations now and so that is a massive area of growth. I would add that the world needs more reliable platforms of quality and fact checks. Too much ‘fake news’ out there. I think there will also be a shake up in the education system going forward but I expect it will take a another generation or two to really show. There are also a massive amounts of ‘awakenings’ happening now which is why people need more smart and creative ways to help people understand how to hack their own brain and emotions.

Generally, a profession is the job you've chosen to do “for life", more than just a temporary thing. However, just because you do something long-term doesn't mean you enjoy it. You may even hate what you do for a living!
“Vocation" is something you are “called" to do, from the Latin “vocare", to call. It's following a profession that is your heart's desire. That is the main difference between the two.

I love coaching, helping people grow, getting people to reach their highest potential. I love challenges. I am good at problem solving, getting things done and activating people to get things done.
I did engineering which was great actually but I wanted a little more. My parents had no expectations, but I thought that should be what I wanted. The world needs me to help people realize that they can really do anything they truly want, that they are more powerful than they can imagine. Their ideal life and career is only 6 inches away. All the information is out there for them to learn what to do. Life is for them not against them. All the problems you have in work stems from miscommunication. There’s no one thing but you have your path that you will learn from. You are meant to have multiple purposes. There are many more options. Success comes from personal development. If you want to lead, you have to lead yourself first.

  • @huihuang2306
    @huihuang2306 4 года назад +25

Love this model and coaching session. Here is my thinking model to share with everyone:
    - Mindset: we have to unlock ourselves and get comfortable on life-long learning and training.
    - Model: When making personal decisions trying to ask 3 questions: a. what you can do today; b. what you want to do; c. what you should do.
    - Strategy: We strive to think creatively on clarity on long term but also know what we would want to put into actions in near term (next 3 month, 6 month).
If you have parents or others either say you should do this or you cann't do this, you can politely treat them as your advisory group, listen, analyze but still own your decisions.
I am with TheFutur here - it is about taking your decision mindfully.
The last thing - life is a magic system. you can bend the rules and build bridges toward the place you want to be. Don't just be a visitor, be a creator in your life journey.

They just need to be interested in something to be productive. Cuz once you love what you do, you will learn more about it, you will find job opportunities. You will be happy at work.

Thanks Chris! 💛 I love this concept and i would like to add as a psychologist, I judge from my own experience that traumas can be a key road to what you love and what the world needs. Looking only for the "joyful" moments is just one facet of ourselves - remembering the things you fear, you are angry or sad about are just as powerful and can become your ikigai.
I have most fear of expressing aggression in front of a woman. I learned as a child/baby that my mother may abandons me if I get really mad, so as a survival instinct, i stopped being angry even if i was. Facing that fear now continiously by doing the HAKA (Maori) and teaching other man to use their aggressive feelings as a source of power for focus, goal-orientation to follow what they really want - feels huge. I recommend you guys, look also for things you make yourself feeling sad, angry or fearful. There could be a huge potential for what you love next to joyful moments in your childhood. 🚀

I invented roles for myself and I played out all involved parts or said other character dialogs in my head also without camera. But I was super super super shy and anxious in general. I'm now 22 almost and anxiety is my biggest obstacle which I'm overcoming all the time. Actually in Kindergarten I said that I want to be a spy when I grow up. Because I wanted to fight like Zorro and Jackie Chan, and pretend to be someone else. Also I was too afraid to say that I actually want to be a singer. Now I'm working on my singing. But I always wanted to just try to be everything because everything is interesting.

I am battling burnout and depression lately thinking that I don't have a purpose anymore..or why the heck am I still living because I don't even know what I really wanted in life. And I have been thinking of resigning from my work because I can feel that I don't belong there. That I know that my heart was longing for something that I really want and would make me happy, but I really didnt know what it was. The whole 46+ minutes of watching this was worth it. Even tho I was sobbing hard while watching the first few minutes because that hit a lot of different points in my life, and it was an eye opener. Hopefully after listing down all the things needed to be listed I will finally be able to find my Ikigai and can continue on living my life. A big thank you to you Sir Chris for making this. Before going to uni, I wrote down all those things and decided on a thing that seemed to be best suited for me. It was hell. I wasn’t passionate about this. I liked some things related to it, but not the thing I studied, therefore I did horribly. Didn’t get good at it. I wouldn’t get paid for it. That was definitely not something the world needed, no matter what I thought earlier. Please think about it carefully. I dropped out after few years of studying… I feel like I completly lost these years out of my life. I felt so stuck. Now I study something different and it costs me quite a bit of money on top of the time BUT I have actual free time and I’m EXTREMELY happy about what I’m learning and doing everyday. Can’t wait to learn and do more, and work full time! I’m peaceful. Passion is a huge part. I also found myself a related hobby and started a small business since leaving the previous uni. Now… I have tears in my eyes. I wish everyone to find their calling. Follow your intuition guys. You know it in your heart.
Let this comment to be my contribution to “what the world needs” - if it reaches one person that needed to “hear” that, I’ll be satisfied

    1. What you love.
    2. What you're good at.
    3. What the market needs.

One of the best speeches and best way of couching that I've listened to so far. You've no idea how much I needed this, I'm a fresh graduate and I've been working in customer services for almost 3 years during school bc I needed money. This speech is turning everything over real soon. Thanks so much for the amazing content!

It's so great to have a class that ACTUALLY has meat and bones to it. Thank you Chris! Great listening to you and you feel like the mentor/coach everyone needs.

Earlier today, I literally searched for "passion" on Skillshare and I'm currently watching a video on Ikigai.
Glad to see this from a entrepreneur/designer point of view.

I knew what I wanted to do at 27. And was good at it. Fast forward, I’ve spent 25 years doing a vocation. Thankful I found this
