I have and appreciate all those things in my relationship with my piano musical-fluency coach. I'm finding your videos and the comments reveal the world of pianism in ways that most big-numbers RUclips piano channels don't. I watched a channel where the pianist seemed to be sharing her own very rough learning voyage, talked about skipping days, practising 15 minutes, etc. and presented herself as an 'intermediate' student. When asked, she told me she'd been studying for 22 years and teaching for seven. As in any art or craft, it's the depth of inner work that counts, not time. One of your commenters on your memorization video said, about the inner work, 'If only outsiders knew'. In my four years with a passionate and compassionate coach I've gradually realized how deep the experience and expression of music goes. Unfortunately, from the early days of pianoforte manufacturing and sheet music publication, teaching has been an industry where retention of students is the business model.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! I'm truly grateful to hear about your enriching experience with your piano musical-fluency coach. It's heartening to know that our videos have provided you with insights into the profound world of pianism, emphasizing the importance of the depth of inner work over mere time spent.
Your reflection on the misleading aspects of some RUclips piano channels and the industry dynamics around student retention is spot on. It's refreshing to connect with an audience that values the true essence of musical learning.
I appreciate your engagement and the time you've taken to share your perspective. Wishing you continued joy and growth on your musical journey with your passionate and compassionate coach!

Alexandra thank you for everything and i watch your channel a lot. You are fantastic. I do have a question Alexandra and would like to know how you would approach this: I have selected 10 most popular (rather simple) classical songs for my repertoire. I am “memorizing” them one by one and I am currently on number four. Should I memorize one at a time and move to the next one and spend two or three weeks on it not touching the three that I already memorized or should I visit each one for a period of time each day. I am favoring only learning one at a time while forgetting about the others or is that the wrong approach. I am curious what you would recommend. I wish you continued success. Thanks.

Hello and thank you for the great question!
It all depends on your final goal and timeline:
If you want to be able to memorize all 10 and play them together as a set, then I would recommend creating a plan where you would work on say 3 pieces at a time.
      Something like:
Piece 1 : complete focus on memorization ( basically do it until it’s fully memorized). Meanwhile you are working on Piece 2: working on it overall, polishing, fixing any possible technical issues.
Start on piece 3 and simply go over it couple of times day.
      That way your plan looks:
      Memorization- piece 1
      Polishing- piece 2
      “Run-through “ piece 3.
As soon as piece one is memorized, you are adding another section- “ Retention” ( you will revisit you memorized pieces daily)
Then you start moving your pieces around.
Now piece 2 goes to “memorization box” ; piece 3 to “ polishing “, piece 4 ( new) to “run-through “, and piece 1 to “retention”.
And so one until all 10 are memorized. Does it make sense? :-)
