    Slashing that square tubing is genius. Thanks for posting.

      Square tubing might be the best material to have on hand. The solution to the problem usually hides in it somewhere. Stoked you got something out of the video

    Really slick project chop man. Love the creativity. I'm building a smaller cutting station at the end of my CertiFlat 4' x 4' table. However I am lazy, so I'm using a removable water tray to catch slag and douse sparks. Yours is much more creative and well . . . cool. kudos.

    Dear Phil, very nice concept with a sturdy and level plasma table that cleans up after itself and it all packs away into a slim package. Good thinking.
    It’s funny how things go. I added some side-wings to my radial arm saw and had difficulty conceptualising how to support the wings which can swing down out of the way when not in use. Your long bi-fold hinge may be just the answer. Well done.

    • @HouseofChop
      @HouseofChop  2 года назад

      Thank you I appreciate the generous words. The idea I stuck to with this build was sturdy but as light and tight as possible. The hinges work well. They could use some stops so they can fold in the wrong direction but otherwise have held up to all I’ve thrown at them and I’ve put some beefy stuff on it.

  • @jakefriesenjake

    I saw a different video where the table folds down, like yours. And another video with a metal funnel, but didn't fold away. And another video with a bucket, and funnel but no water in the bucket. I want to make a plasma table, so I was going to put them all together. Then I saw your vid! Nice!
    But before I saw your vid, I already ditched the metal funnel idea and thought of making a cheap funnel out of a large welding blanket. It collapses even faster a is really cheap to buy. So I don't know anymore lol

    I also like that it acts as an out feed table for larger sheet work. Love this table set up with one addition: When I build this table for my shop, I'll be adding holes at the ends of each of the replaceable cutting supports, you call them slats @2:40, and a retaining rod to go inside the length of the square tube they are mounted in. One 1/4" or 3/8" pencil rod with threads on each end passing through the open end of the hinged square tube and through each of the support slats will be keep or retain them in the square tube cutout slots until you want to replace them. No falling out issues when the table is moved or bumped when in the down position either. Thumbs up for sure!

    I was just debating on how to make one of these and i figured the funnel part would just tuck into the side of the table when i lower the table, and eat up a good chunk off that space. i never though to make funnel foldable...

    Excellent video! I am in the process of building one quite similar. I can’t tell you how many times I have referenced this video. How did you fasten your funnel sides to your frame? Did you screw or tack weld the hinge?

    • @HouseofChop
      @HouseofChop  3 года назад

      That’s awesome. I use this table all the time. I even break it out for cutting and grinding on things.
      The hinges sit on 1/8 strips that are welded to the box tube and the hinges themselves are screwed into the 1/8 steel with self tapping screws. It’s held up quite well in the last 3 years or so.

      @@HouseofChop Have every done a video on the bandsaw build or consider a sort of highlite video discussing how you built it?

    • @HouseofChop
      @HouseofChop  4 года назад

      Always Aware I actually built it a bit wrong and wouldn’t go about it that way if I ever did it again. You’d really want the sides to be back from the top so you could clamp stops or whatever else you might want to create repeatable cuts. If I did it again I would basically copy the SWAG off-road design but without the miter attachment trench and I’d increase the top of the table by about 30%. That larger work surface comes in handy.

      Oh I got you now. It’s actually 1.5” x 1/8” angle iron that I cut a section out of that sticks out past the table. The angle gives you some more rigidity and surface to weld.
