Dr. Webb, you are great bro! Keep it up! I’m definitely gonna share this because you’re teaching rare stuff. By the way I’m feeling the SnapBack Hat we see you Doc!
Hi Dr Webb my name is hussein I learn your Chanel a lot of things so I would like to ask you a quotation, now i study at diploma nursing school in Malaysia so it takes to graduate in 3 years , however can i apply a medical school in diploma nursing. thanks
Dr Webb, what would you say to someone interested in medical school but is bad at math? And would it be possible for you to make a video about the math used in medicine?
El Paso- Ok, thank you for you’re response. I did not know what kind of math was used and so with this Information I can better my math skills by knowing what to practice. Thank you.
It depends on your training in math. If you've only ever done high school algebra or geometry, yeah you'll probably struggle. Math eventually stops being a subject where the expectation is that you merely crunch numbers, it becomes much more a subject of how to think about relationships between different things (variables or factors). Once you're there, you'll be just fine. Beyond that, math gets well out into the fabric of things and reality, and it gets philosophical. You don't need to go that far. Take a college level algebra course and a non-math-major stats course if your school has it (Stats for health sciences, Stats and experimental design, some computer science courses may even work). Also, if you can pass the algebra-based physics (not to mention all the chem) prerequisites for med school you'll be fine. These courses are prerequisites because they encompass so many of the skills you'll need, for example the "dimensional analysis" that El Paso mentioned. Talk with your advisor! Good luck and happy travels
TurdFurgeson571 - Thank you for you’re response, I am only a high school freshman but I have never been vary good at math which has led to discouragement from many people when I talk about med school, I thought about a computer science major for a while along with minoring in mathematics to get better at math. Thank you.
@@bobboberson7684 Ah ok. Well then you're in luck. You've got plenty of time to become proficient with math. Math is one of those subjects that, unfortunately, you must work with a lot in order to become familiar enough that it feels easy. The fortunate part is, there is literally a limitless supply of problems that you can do to become proficient. Once the problems start to look like they're all the same, you're good to go. I recommend to students at your level, commit to doing the homework (do this at all levels really) and maybe 10 to 20 extra problems each day. It sounds like a lot, but it becomes easy and this will take you around a half hour eventually. When you get to university, you will have to dial it back to as few as 2 or 3 problems extra per day as you progress beyond algebra (if you choose to do that). Essentially, devote an extra 20 to 30 minutes, beyond homework, each day to your math. Forgive the pun, but this effort really adds up. You'll likely surprise yourself and look back at how you used to say things like, "I'm not good at math" and wonder why you ever said that. It's supposed to be difficult by the way. Keep forging. Or as Dr. Webb might tell you, overcome the odds.
TurdFurgeson571 - Thanks for you’re response, I really appreciate the support, the math in my class (algebra support) has been getting easier although we will be moving on to something new soon. I will use you’re advice and hopefully it will work. We did a little preview of what’s up next (it is high school algebra now but their was some middle school math at the beginning the year) and it looks kind of difficult but I think with some time things will get better for my math skills. Thank you for you’re response and support.
ive been working as a medical assistant in my gap year before med school at a private practice, and while its offered me a lot of clinical experience, the insight into the business side of it has been super valuable too!
Hello Dr. Webb, can you please make a video, or at least explain puerto rico medical schools? I heard they are in the carribean, but don't count as carribean because puerto rico is a U.S. territory? Ideally I would hope to get into a school in the states, however applying to puerto rico is also a good option for me since im fluent in spanish. I will avoid carribean schools at all costs, but just want to know? Thanks for the time.
Yet another reason why you should *_not_* get into medicine for the money. You have to be willing _and_ capable enough to deal with this too, and more.
I’m looking for job shadowing experience this summer in Houston TX. I have zero connections. If anyone has any ideas or connections for a doctor to shadow let me know!
I have to tell you this is hardest thing ever! I had no luck or experience for awhile and seeing your comment I had to reach out. Start emailing... and email like crazy! I emailed for 2 years and eventually got a reply 1 year later. She called me back and now I shadow there and having experience is key! Email around and go visit the place! Just walk in to a few places and talk.....it’s hard but it’s worth it! Look online also.... look hard, email make calls and best of luck! It’s gonna be a long road but it’s possible. You’re in Houston! I’m from Texas but I can assure you, someone is willing to help.
No wonder they don't teach you about buissness side of the medicine. As it shouldn't be buisness as that drives doctors to do things to people not necessarily for them or at least what is best for them and least invasive as doctors doesn't get paid for that in US. They get paid to do things to people not for them, so it's good that they don't teach about he buisness side as doctors in Us gwt paid foe doings thing to patients. Not for them so to max the income of course it is desirable to do surgery asap instead of trying tp the max physio and injections and less invasive less income for doctors. And where else in the world do you see on a medical bill a bag of saline for 100-400dollars and tetanus shot for thousands. Well in most civilizes. Countries you don't get medical bill at all. And a wholesale for bag of saline is a few cents and hospitals sell them to patients who neess them while in hospital for. Hundreds of dollars. Its insane. So. Thankfully they dont teach you thete to drive up the cost more. And do unnecessary things at this point ( Patient might nees it later or. Could well do well wit out the suevery or whatever) to patients to drive up their income. Doctors in. Europe for. Example have it rather good financially. Tbey go through frwe education in uni in many countries like any other subject woek in socialized system still get paid well and the outcome foe patients are much better as they get paid anyway and don't desire to do a surgery that didn't needed to be done yet to patient just to get that exrea dollars for new car. And the hospitals themselves dont sell the supplies to patients like bags od saline wich they sell few cent bag for hundreds od dollars in Us. I. Europe the government buys it and it is used as needed at no extra cost..... I meant no cost for the patient. Good example:I was in different European country broke the hand and gor compartment syndrome and that meant one surgery to open the hand ans another week later to close it. And hospital stay in between. I paid nothing and max payment in the pharmacy each month was 18 eur. Sp as. A. Foreigner but European citizens I got the service free and max 18 eur that month in the pharmacy. No payments to the hospital, nothing to the doc oe the. Anesthesias I neeses twice as two surgeries. Nothing foe the hospital room. Or supplies or meds while in there. This leads to doctors just do what is nessesary not what theh get most monwyyfrom The patient. That leads to better public health and less errors and less unnecessary procedurws that have all risks. So thankfully rhey dont teach you to maximize your income as maximize it in us is beeing Frankenstein to patients. Worse things for patients more money for docs.
Yes, they don't teach us about Skillshare
It was literally like a third of the video lol
Hahahaha!
How to deliver bad news to patients families is definitely something we don't learn nor talk much about.
Yea indeed, but that comes from practise and experiences. It is hard to teach in lectures.
We learn/practice this??????? Guess the US system is just inferior
Thank you Doctor Webb for this video ; You are helping/inspiring alot of aspiring doctors on how the medical system is like , keep up the good work !
Thank you!
Really enjoying the videos sir! Beginning residency soon, glad someone is able to point to useful resources
Thank you!
Great pointers Dr. Webb, definitely gave me a lot to look into
Thank you!

An Entity thanks 🙏
It is a shame they cant teach experience at medschool. That is the thing I am mostly lacking, haha
I've noticed a lot of residents at my job have s hard time telling patients bad news, they usually shirk it off to the nurses.
Dr. Webb. You don't need the first THIRD of your video to be an ad. Get your money, but come on.
Joshua McGough damn just fast forward
Let him get his coin!
And it was lengthy
Can you make a video about after finishing your training wether to go to a hospital or work in a private practice
thats a good one..I rather do private vs hospital... private practice = flexible hours.
Oh whaaat, I never knew Gary was on Skillshare. I guess it’s no surprise since he’s always recommending pushing content on every platform. 💪
Adnan A Do you ever get off RUclips?
Miguel Pacheco nope
