- "There were desperate scenes of families separated and crying out for help, pleading not to be left behind," reported former CBS News correspondent Ed Bradley, as the city of Saigon was evacuated ahead of its fall on April 30, 1975. Bradley's intrepid reporting, detailing the dramatic events of the day the Vietnam War ended, originally aired on the "CBS Evening News."
My Dad was there,he was one of many Marines who was directing the evacuation. He said Saigon was being rapidly overran.
Tell your Dad thank you. I helped load out the USS Blue Ridge at White Beach Okinawa before they left. My unit was Truck Company, H&S Battalion, 3rd Force Service Regiment, Camp Foster. We hauled Marines from Camp Hansen & Camp Schwab to White Beach. He could have been on a 2 1/2 ton Duce & a Half I was driving, in late March 1975. Semper Fi from an old Marine Sergeant.
USMC 73-77 Thanks
The Army &Air Force was also there, but as usual no credit, same, same.
@@usmc-veteran73-77 - USA, are you idiots? :)) 😊 1000 military bases around the world, ... except Russia and China. Americans fear the Russian more than the Chinese. Even more than of the Aliens. :))) ✌🇷🇺

Ooops, we did it again!
My Uncle Dennis Weston was on one of those ships in 1975. He had pictures of the helicopters in the sea after they were pushed off. It was an amazing sight he said..

I guess Joe Biden didn't remember history.

Being a Vietnam vet I saw this this exact outcome 20 ago which why I was against the war.
Thank you for your service 🙏🇺🇸
@FAT TRUTH He did, so what's your point?
Yes!
the majority of Americans were ALSO anti-war. We had demonstrations against this war in the 2000’s, but the oligarchs shoved this down our throats.
I fear history will view this was as being endorsed by the average person.
But most Americans didn’t want this.
@FAT TRUTH Huh, weird point but understandable.
Không phải là chiến tranh ,mà là cuộc chiến chống cộng sản và bọn khủng bố. Chúng tôi đã từng sống với cộng sản Việt nam nên hiểu và chấp nhận chiến tranh để bảo vệ tự do❤❤
The same thing is happening in Kabul today. Ironic how history repeats itself.
History does not repeat, but history so often rhymes.

Crazy that Biden was a senator back then. He’s one of the few people still in politics.
I think Chuck Grassley may have been in the House at that time. Crazy how long these Congresscritters last. Shouldn't be surprised. We have an NYS Assemblyman who was elected in 1969.
That's why we need term limit. These old men are too incompetent!
Here we go again . It took us 20 years to recover.
Yes but look how much better the reporting was back then. Straightforward, honest an unbiased. At least that's the way it seems to me.
true true
Back when we used to have real reporters,
Some of the reporters were wrong reporting the fall of Saigon they said there was little Arvn resistance that was so wrong!! Some of the reporters were in the safety of the middle of Saigon where there was no fighting the Arvn were fighting in the outskirts of Saigon even a lot of nva generals and officials that were still fighting the Arvn were disappointed with what the reporters said. I’m not saying all of the reporters were wrong like the one in the vid but a lot were.
I was stationed at Utapao, Thailand then. 554 Red Horse Civil Eng. We built a tent city to receive refugees. It was a sad day. All types of aircraft landing every which way. People in wheel wells of aircraft. Families, some with nothing but clothes on their backs. Some with suitcases of money that was worthless. I'll never forget it.
Red Horse is still active there.
Well Vietnam is a wonderful place now. US democracy is overated.
I love a goo' ol' red horse
Though not in Thailand, I was a refugee boy with my family in Malaysia. We were there because the tides took us there and the Malaysians took us in. I'm watching this video due to hearing about the current events with the fall of Kabul in 2021. BTW, thanks for the sacrifices you've made for both of our countries.
Xin cảm ơn ông đã hiểu cho người Việt Nam Cộng Hoà chúng tôi ❤❤
Who’s here because of Kabul?
I'm here because Kabul fell to Taliban. Similar images. I'm impressed. History rhymes.
"History _repeats*_ itself."
It’s just worse this time. People hold on to the airplane and fell off the plane
I'm sure similar stuff happened in Vietnam, just not as many cameras around to capture it
Come on. People trying to hold on for life as an overlodaded helicopters are taking off. Quit with the phrase: 'It's worst this time" BS. Do some research and learn and quit the talking points of politicians.
History doesn't repeat itself, it just rhymes.
Don’t know why I came here, maybe something related to what’s happening in the news
History never repeats itself, but man always does.
This is Kabul in 3 weeks basically ...
Hey guys can you explain how this amd 2021s Afghanistan situation have in common? Or the backstory from both? I need knowledge my guys
@@yom0mma214 Both Vietnam and Afghanistan are seen as stupid decisions by the US/NATO. They’re fights that couldn’t have been won yet men and women gave up their lives fighting for a lost cause. The similarities of Saigon and Kabul are that people aren’t going to have the time to evacuate while a new power takes over that is hostile to the citizens who live there. The US is trying I get as many loyal afghani people/Americans evacuated before the taliban retakes Kabul while the clock is winding down at a rapid rate.
It's not that history repeats itself but it's that no one can be forced to change without his/her own willing

why they are jumping from heli? i couldn't understand
There was no space on the boats to land the helicopters so they jumped in the water to be picked up by boats
And now the Afghanistan people evacuation from kabul like this in Saigon

They can't bring it back to US (don't have enough space for people), but also don't want the North Vietnam army takes it.

Kabul??? 15 de agosto 2021
Reported by Ed Bradley. "We won an honorable peace in Vietnam." - Richard Nixon
What`s going on with the helicopters? Why are they landing on the water, etc.?
These helicopters were not from US carriers air wings, these were South Vietnamese military choppers. Carriers didn't had enough space on their decks to accommodate so many. They landed them on water and then pilots were saved by sailors from the ships. Also, when they were able to land some of these on the deck, they dumped helicopters immediately after disembarking, to provide space for other ones.
Real brutality is these as continued Afghanistan
E estamos aqui vendo essa cena se repetir no Afeganistão em 2021 :(
