Just wanted to let you know that you are a meticulous machine! I've binge watched your Mad County Series like it's a season of Breaking Bad! Great work and awesome detail. I DIY everything and have built a wealth of experience over the years. It's nice to see someone else's input on things because you're never to old to learn. Again, keep it up and I'll keep checking in!
Did you ever post the video for the uneven concrete door install? I cant find it in your videos. I am installing a door with the same scenario and would love to see it done! Thanks
This video made me giggle :) as much as my husband loves to have everything perfect seeing where the screws are doesn’t bother him for some reason as long as they are all in line and evenly spaced 😁 now when he says “well what can ya do?” I know exactly what!
Finally all caught up and subscribed lol... Nice to see a fellow Iowa guy on the tubes. I will be doing a similar build but in Hawaii, Great content and channel keep it up! 🤙🏼😁
I actually install doors for a living in Des Moines area, when we have brick mold, we actually attach the door through that with trim screws before we go inside and screw it off like you did. Just another trick for people
The trick on doors is to pull the foam moulding strip back and run the screws into the frame through then drop the moulding back in place and they are hidden. I never understood why they use tiny screws on door hinges. Btw its always a good idea on doors that connect garage to house to have some sort of seal gasket so car exhaust does not migrate to the rest of the house.
Did I see Floor Drains in the garage floor(not the sump in the storm shelter)? Will you explain how you plumbed those and where the water from the garage goes? Keep up the great videos!
Hello friend. If I am remembering correctly he shows the drain install for the storm shelter in the video with the retaining wall build. However it could have been in the video with the shelter foundation pour. Hope that helps.
Your channel is awesome dude! For some reason I can watch your channel all day because you are straight forward and actually doing the work. I learn a new technique or simply learn how to do something every time I watch one of your episodes. Thanks and keep up the good work.
I am an old retired carpenter and I think you are doing great, I like watching and seeing all the new materials that make it easier and better. So much tighter and better. again great job young man.
Fantastic, like Scott below, I watched way too many videos on door installs and yours was straight forward, well timed, easiest to follow & understand. Clear and concise, you are a master! Thank you very much.
What's your plan for finishing the inside of the door frame, after using a 2x6 door on a 2x8 wall? Wouldn't an 8 inch door casing have made that easier?
Im trying to figure this out now and feel like im the first one to install a door in a post frame building .so you have a 1.5in gert a 5.5 in post 1/8 wiggle room for trim and 1/2 sheetrock .ive recieved 3 answers and none were 7 5/8 ? to me unless im missing something the jamb should be 75/8 plus any outside trim you are taking J channel to .Am I wrong ?I purchaced a stock front door and need to build jamb extensions
I'm catching up on all these videos. It's great to watch your progress. I had a thought about how you secured the door to the framing on the hinge side. If you ever need to remove the hinges for any reason the frame will no longer be attached on that side. If you were to pull the hinge and secure the frame with a screw that would be countersunk behind the hinge plate you wouldn't have that problem.
Best storm shelter is using ICF concrete filled walls and below ground. Mono pour 6 inch ceiling. No window in the shelter. Here in tornado alley you want to be underground so flying debris doesn't spear you.
@@MrPostFrame I see now, i did not see that video. I am watching now. I would consider double layer plywood and shorter distances between joists. If that house drops in 1 layer of ply would not hold up.
If the head is level and the jambs parallel you can hang a plumb bob dead center and move the bottom of the door left or right until the plumb bob hits a center point mark on your door threshold the door will be perfectly plumb. Then measure off the string at any point to get the jambs straight and true in the center. It is fool proof and quick. I have this 1/4" x 3" wide x 8' piece of aluminum bar that I use as a straight edge with my router to edge a 2x4 into a perfectly straight board to check my jambs full height as well. Then I put the door back on. On exterior doors I finish off with non expanding foam in the gaps to seal the door jambs. Sills have a door pan to make sure any moisture gets directed to the outside with the sill being set in three strips of urathane sealant. If you have a concrete stoop at the door make sure you install self adhering rubber membrane between the sheathing and the concrete to protect the sheathing, rim board and sill from any potential future water that would cause them to rot. I use two pieces of old fashioned clap board to form a space between the concrete and wood and since they are wedge shaped it is easy to remove them so that 440 board (the kind used in sidewalk expansion joints) down into the space with backer rod and self leveling joint sealant to seal the joint. I have a question. What are you doing for wind bracing on the walls? Are you doing portal frames at the doors?
You installed this door onto the sub flooring but if you have hardwood flooring down don’t you need to raise the area under the sill by 3/4 inch to accommodate that extra height?
Hi, thanks for the informative Video. I'm planning on adding a side entry door to my garage. It's a five yr old house. How should I proceed. Thank you.
This man is a dedicated BEAST ! It is 27 degrees outside, and he works solo. All of his videos are well made and provide excellent detailed instruction . Thank You Sir !
I want to ask what (if any) adjustments do I need to make for the elevation of the door sill when using vinyl plank flooring over wood subfloor? Regards James
I recommend Stodoys plans to every beginner and not only.
How did u do the door on not level concrete

I guess he doesn't reply. I'd like to see that vid too
He goes over in the post frame exterior metal part 3 video.

Great vid on a composite frame door install. Awesome trick with hiding the screws. 😀

Great tips on concealing the fasteners !
I watched tons of door install videos and yours was actually the easiest to understand, thank you very much!
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
Super nice. I'm about to install one and we need to see the other videos when installing into concrete and not level? Thank you

Thanks for watching and for your comment! Appreciate the encouragement.
This video helps me tremendously, thanks! Oh, did to let the screw head countersink itself or do you use countersink bit?
Screw through the jamb behind the weather seal. The weather seal will conceal the screws

Agreed. I’m not sure this was done correctly to be honest. It should’ve been an 8 inch jamb not a 6 1/2 inch jamb.
Very clear and concise explanation. Well done, I’m more knowledgeable on this task. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Glad it was helpful!

This is a room above the storm shelter, because yes, having an underground space to go is safest.

What door slab size? And what was the RO? Looks great. Thanks.
Do you need screws on top or just the sides?
can you please tell me what type and size screw and bit you used? thank you
great video enjoyed it thanks
Very helpful, thanks!!
Well done, so how does it work having an exterior door on a cement slab is there anything to put under door other then silicone?
You can buy pre made sill pans
That makes it look so clean!
Love the screw behind the seal trick. Thanks
Trying to find the video you mention about hanging a prehung door on concrete and leveling the seal but cant find it. Can you help?
Looking for this also

Thank you.....a better video explanation than many others! BC Canada

Where did you order your door ?
Thanks for sharing this!
Nice job!
Really like how you explain processes. Really, really like your professionalism.
Thank you, appreciate it.
Could you install that door so that the door swings inside garage??????
If you wanted to. You can have them swing in or out. Just have to specify that when ordering or buying the door.
Thanks for the great instructional video.
