Bro I laughed so hard when you blamed the screw on China lmaooo
Here in Canada we have the Robertson screw It doesnt slip like a Philips screw
Största felet är slitna bits… men den där röda pissmaskinen ställer till lika mycket…
@@RobSharp-wo5qjya philips is trash
how about a torx screw? from china.
China Junk
Here in Michigan we usually drop the porch or deck a step so you don’t have snow and dirt building up against the door as much.
yes, thats how we do it also, greetings from sweden!
Hate shoveling when they don't have the porch dropped, dangerous as it builds up as well!!!😢
It’s not that the screws were made in china. It’s that you’re using those junky Philips heads. Get some real screws. Get torx heads.
One pointer, wrangler....
Place the shims just above the screw; Not in line. Maintains the integrity of the shims and you can do final adjustments.
Great video! I learned something, and I have hung a few doors! Pretty slick to use a hinge screw hole to hide the mounting points! The mornings are so awesome, humbled to be part of the WarBand! Act accordingly!
Indeed, see you at 5:00
The fizz is strong with those hats. Can’t wait
I'm with you on the impact drill sound. If I am drilling into concrete/brick I put up with it. But I don't need all that racket when just screwing something together!
I like to brad nail my shims to the framing on the hinge side you can run a level on the shims then just put your door to the shims and it will be level. You can also put 2 shims really tight in the very top corners(you wont bend the jamb) to pinch your door tight in the framing and you don’t have to put shims to hold up the door I also like to take the hinges off the jamb and put a long screw in behind the hinge. I mostly do this bc when the painters come in and take the hinges off they pull your long screw and 90% of the time your door will not be put back up correctly. Just a few tips I’ve learned and may help somebody else.
I used to install exterior doors in new construction for a living. You did a great job! You are blessed to have straight walls. Many framers do not take the care to build straight walls....which is why I always had a sledge hammer to fix their work. 🤣
Such a great lesson.
My father taught me to hang a door on our pool house. Supervised as I did most of the hanging and when completed, it would stay put, but any gentle breeze would make it swing and even latch closed; a perfect level door. Was so satisfying to see, I would open it and watch the wind catch it and close it, heh.
Had my dinner ready and was looking for a video to watch while eating. Might as well watch a man install a door in 15 minutes 🤷♂
Why Philips screws… behind the times! Robertson 🇨🇦 much better to prevent stripping. Torx even better. 👍
Nothing worse than Phillips screws they can make the most elegant work flow go south so fast
You should look into a hydraulic cordless impact. I much prefer them , I feel more control and much less noise.
Mr. W, I have grown up watching your channel as a young man, but haven't been a regular viewer since starting a family and my career. Coincidentally, I am about to install an exterior door much like you have done, and this was the first suggestion when starting my research on the subject!
I felt compelled to let you know the impact you have had on me and can honestly say you were a helping hand in the man i am today.
I thank you sincerely.
May God bless you and your family 🙏
I saw this, Friday the 13 VI , Stand By Me, Howard the Duck, One Crazy Summer and Thrashin in the same weekend
To counter Mr. W….. (sorry) I’ve built my own doors. If you have not (or have) installed a door before, please read the instructions. Square and true and you’ll be ok.
If you have an existing door that opens or closes on it's own you can pull one hinge pin and hit it with a hammer and put a slight bend in it and then reinstall the pin and the door should stay put.
East coast man realized "instructions" are other people's opinions.
Dude stop calling him your manservant 😂
Make me,
Your first mistake was running the decking right up against the door threshold. That will create issues in the future. You dont need that much extra space for your rough opening. This is unless you need that for the movement of the logs.
How much will the hats end up costing? Very clean looking.
TBD, stand by,
I think you got yourself some pine shims there
That’s not a French Door. French Doors have two operable panels.
Try the Milwaukee Surge. Its very quiet.
a large glasshole is not all that safe for those that fear everything but God
Door looks centered and swings cleanly....you've done this before! Morning livestreams are encouraging and uplifting as well, if you are not a member and joining us you are missing out on some of God's blessings.
I’ll 2nd the praise for the livestream. It’s already been life changing after only a week, and I’m convinced it can only make a man better.
You and me both, Dan,
Listening to some Chesterton? Very nice
That wouldn't happen if you guys had Robertson screws just saying 🤷♂️
We have them. I prefer Robertson or torx or hex drive... But it's hard to find a lot of different head types.
That's some damn good content right Thur
We use Robertson screws for nearly everything, yet Philips is the go to for doors. I wonder why?
i remember watching you when i was 15 and im so glad you still upload sharing all the knowledge you have.
Milwaukee surge impacts are easy on the ears!
When the cabin is done you should make one long video of the whole build!!
Doors and windows are one of the things I never got much time on in my few years of construction work. Now I kind of want to install a few!
Put a maga hat on bruh
Wake up, it' won't make any difference,
As a professional homeowner here in the UK, I find inflatable wedges indispensable for lifting up doors etc.
Well done! I'll remember that shim trick to keep the door from leaning. That's a good tip
I have never watched a video of his that I have not learned something new even if its something small
All the nuggets are in the comments!
Do a shop tour and tool box tour
Carpentry not so much as I was a 53 year carpenter. But plumbing or electrical I have to figure time and gas for three to four trips to the hardware store.
Good video and good job!
Out of all of this negativity in youtube, you are one of the few that try to bring some positivity. Thank you brother❤
If you don’t like the sound of the impact. Try the new Milwaukee Surge. Hydraulic impact . Makes very little noise. Your drill will thank you
OH MY GOSH!!!!
Are you OK????
You seem to have been attacked by a vicious beard trimmer!!! 😳
Best practice is to lay 2 or 3 thick beads of vulkem under the threshold. Especially when it's in plane with the exterior elevation.
Source: I've installed doors professionally for the last 9 years.
Stop camming them Phillips and get some Milwaukee pr2 bits. Life changing for and #2 Phillips screw
It’s painful to hear those little Milwaukees struggle
Go back to the 18 Makitas
Lol
When are Americans going to move past Philips and use Robertson already.
Being Canadian, we've had Robertson my whole life and nothing is worse than philips
Window door guy here . Nice work . Something to add.. I always set my doors in a bunch of caulking . Will stop water and air flow and keep sill from being “springy”
So I’m a trim carpenter for a living. Good on you for being able to hang your own door. Most people wouldn’t even try. But. It was hard to watch you hang that door. Boy do we do it differently when you’re going for production. Start from the top hinge not the bottom. Leave your level at your tool station. It’s not needed. You can hang that door just as plumb with good reveals starting at the top hinge and just using your eyes. The door won’t work if it’s not plumb and level. You can set it plumb and level with shims and your eyes much faster and use your 15 or 16 gauge to nail the door in and the tuck screws for security behind the weather strip after it’s hung and operates. Don’t fight with screw to make adjustments. One nail at a hinge. Adjust your shimming nail off.
Been following for over a decade. I really want to join... but things are so expensive right now.
It is not Phillips (PH) it is not used for wood it is Pozidriv (PZ). You are not using the appropriate tool for PZ.
You should consider getting an air shim / air wedge for doing tasks like holding the door up at the right height when leveling and fastening the door jamb into the frame. It's much easier to deal with than incrementally adjusting traditional shims.
Never understood the fascination with inpact drivers and why they are used for everything.
A drill is far more versatile. When i need an impact for a high torque application like sinking lags or long screws, i find most of the smaller battery models too anemic, and resort to a corded model.
Don't lose site that China makes products exactly the way US companies want them. If you want to spend 2 cents on an item, you will receive a 2 cent item.
Thanks Cody God bless you brother it's just like being there with you
You really should run a double line if sealant on the floor on the gasket before you place the door. This will eliminate drafts under the door sill and keep moisture from entering the house.
In scandinavian countries frontdoors open outwards, but make sense for security to have it opening inwards.
I dont like impact drivers either, with a drill driver you cwn feel what is going on and you have speed control
couldnt just let the weather seal tape sit around without using it😂 id feel the same not using it for the windows.
A flat bar can be a useful tool when hanging a door as well. When I hang a door I use the door hardware on both sides to help hide the screws.
This was great! Hey are you still going to do that skills training/camp/retreat resort?
We need to get Proho switched to square drive screws. No need to push so hard.
And that's why you would use an impact, not because of China.
I think the next Wranglerstar merch should be that knee mat
Is there a reason for you having the door open into to the house instead of the other way?
Just a reminder, heighth is not a word, but rather it is height (with no "th" sound at the end).
If you rub a bar of soap on the screws, they will go in much easier.
french door? 2" bigger than the door jamb?
Got a Ronald McDonald look going on here.
Cobra pliers…never leave home without em
Are you required to have two means of egress?
Who else is here for the IH fades?
Ken Follett's Kingsbridge?
Wondering same thing
A little G.K. Chesterton, nice
Very nice Mr. Wranglerstar!
West Coast man has sensitive ears…
You're my hero. 😏
Was a pretty solid video. For a minute I thought you might have done it wrong but nope you didn't great job!
Where is your man servant
I taught myself by trial and error most of my carpentry skills, and I tell you what... the inch and a half of wiggle room meathod would have saved me a lot of pain.
I would install the door knob and the lock before installing the door. Trust me. Nothing worse than perfectly installing the door and it doesn't close. In fact, the last few doors I installed were locked and closed when I was installing them. Of course, if you are alone, that is not an option.
So why is manservant called manservant? And not just his actual name?
it's a long running joke/satire on the channel. Cody realized a few years ago that he couldn't sustain the channel/homestead without having employees.
Had to watch the intro 3 times, so funny😂😂😂. Well done for leaving it in.
My jam is strawberry.
I dont do doors any other way. Cut, glue amd nail jambs together, install jamb, nail hinge side, install door, shim and nail lock side. Cut door and kamb for lock. Cut and install door stop. Never used a prehung door.
That looks just like the door my wife and I got for our house. I was shocked at the price but man is it a nice door.
Good installation tips. Can be awkward without a helper. Livestream this morning was a great blessing. Thank you.
I’m from a family in nh where we were gifted 5 million for our family heritage land easment from govt and we are struggling to build basic structure and living quarters on our property at the kennard hill in epping nh please ps bring a square a level we don’t have any 😅
Excellent work brother, thankyou for showing it. I have always known doors are very hard but you show not so much.
Nice work Cody! Solid info on hanging a door... Proho is quickly becoming the dad of the internet giving all the tips and tricks
Thank you this couldn't have come at a better time I'm about to replace our front door first one for me thank you would like to see how to trim it out also I'm a welder but I'm dabbling in carpentry at our house lol
Thanks Cody Have not hung a door in over 25 years, brings back memories :) TY ❤💯🙏
That's exactly how I dismount on my golf cart! LOL!!!
Me a door and window specialist watching like this is new to me hahaha, none the less great video as always 👌🏾
Nice job, brother. 👍 Quality work is so satisfying. Cheers.
Shoes?
Do you ever need to seal the end of the logs with wax or sealent?
They make log treatment solutions that you would apply every couple of years. Helps prevent insects and excessive weathering.
