You're so informative. HGTV should grab you for a gardening/farm show. You're a wealth of knowledge and comfortable in front of the camera. I love watching you and seeing your farm animals and plants! You're name should be Mother Earth. Keep it up! Hey! @HGTV #HGTV I found a star!
Yeah, the G of HGTV is not a thing any more...🤣 I think they make the ppl do outdoor landscaping just so they can act that the 2 mins of the show is their gardening end lol
Girl, for a young farmer, you are a fountain of information. You make it sound like homesteading is the way to live. I’m sure the work is hard and the hours are long, but with your positive attitude and tons of stored information, life would be enjoyable. Love your video!
You are my absolute favorite RUclipsr right now. My hubby even commented about how down to earth and natural you are at YouTubing. I’ve learned a lot from you. My farm is a step or two behind yours and I’m finding you to be my biggest small farm inspiration! Thanks and keep the videos coming!
When we first bought our 5 acres 7 years ago we set out to cover the cost of our homeowner's insurance and taxes. We more than did that the 1st year and I felt amazing! We are on one income and I felt like I was contributing. Then, I wanted to see if I could have it pay for itself as far as mortgage payments plus the taxes/insurance. I spent so much time trying to make money that I felt so much pressure and stopped really ENJOYING our beautiful place, I got burned out pretty bad and exhausted. A few years I made the amount of annual mortgage payments and taxes & insurance and it was great, it really helped us in tighter times but the truth is it added a lot of extra stress on our finances to be buying tons of meat chicken feed and supplies to butcher 600 chickens a year etc. There was more stress overall so we weren't able to keep our spending as tight as we might have....so yes lots of $ came in but it TOOK a lot of money to make that money and our spending was more stress based and we had to go into a bit of debt until we got the chickens raised which was a bit risky if we'd have had a failure of batches. We finally learned how to set our deposits at the right amount so we didn't have to go into "debt" but then we were in debt to our customers in a way too. I learned a lot about myself, and we gained a ton of skills. Right now, we decided to take a step back from making money off the farm and we are focusing on reconnecting with the enjoyment of it just for us, for our consumption and to get back to why we wanted acreage in the first place...enjoy the space around us, awesome neighbors (sharing our bounty), and we are thankful for the money we still bring in but I am not putting pressure on myself to earn a certain threshold. I think you have great advice in this video, I wish I'd have listened to it years ago.
AMAZING information. I recommend one more way you can make money, put it in a book with pictures and graphs of notes you already have taken (and a transcript of this video) and go to Amazon and self publish. Maybe even add a couple of spreadsheets where you keep track and include them in the workbook you publish (there's 2 books, the actual book and workbook which is an annual purchase with calendar). It will generate more money than you get from RUclips. I'd buy it.
Hmm...what an idea! How wpuld you actually make the books? Would you have to pay a company to make them?print on your pc and bind yourself?(Forgive me for asking seemingly stupid questions please!)
@@krystaldaniels7940 you can "self publish" which means that you have to have the publishing file (usually in Adobe InDesign) completely ready, edited, proofed, and laid out... then Amazon prints it on demand as orders come in.
@@krystaldaniels7940 Krystal, you could print them from a PC, but that is probably the most expensive way to publish (not to mention time consuming). The next most expensive is to have a company do it on demand. As folks order books, they get produced, then shipped. Probably best for a first book, until you can gauge how many buyers you are likely to have. If it does well, you can pay for say 1000 to be made at 1/2 the price of the first on-demand ones. But you are stuck with them if they stop selling. Sooo...I'd try the on-demand 1st, then have a batch made if you get reviewed by someone like Mother Earth News and sales increase. Minimizes the risk, maximizes the profits. If you hit the bigtime, you can get picked up by a publishing house. But this is becoming increasingly harder and rarer. As you can see, I've done a bit of research into this. :-) I hope this answers your question!
OMG!! I don't know how anyone could give this video a thumbs down. I LOVE LOVE LOVE all of your videos and this one is EXCEPTIONAL! Thank you so much! I am a disabled Veteran living in a one bedroom apartment. I decided this year (thanks to you) to begin a container garden in my pretty nice size patio. I plan grow at capacity for my consumption and sell excess veggies to supplement my dosability income. I started a worm farm also to create my own compost as I'd like to grow everything as organically/naturally as possible. Eventually, would love to have my own little homeastead. Anyway, you've inspired me to do all of this and it has been amazing for my mental health (PTSD and Bipolar Disorder) and motivational issues. Many blessings to you and your family!
I'm an original Mother Earther. In the 70's, we bartered a LOT! We also practiced co-op as neighbors.Anything that was costly, like honey, we bought together to keep the price down. A gallon glass jar holds 12 lbs. And to this day we are still buying in bulk and splitting the cost as much as possible. I will be raising Barred Rocks and hatching this one breed. Folks here tend to like this good, old style laying hen. Yes duck eggs make for rich cakes! Wet hatching goslings should net you at least $7.00 apiece, day old and the eggs can be sold for art work projects. I used a Sears redwood 400 egg incubator. Great video and & helpful advice Jess!
I've grown gourds and luffa to sell. Some gourds are simply dried, cleaned, and sold in their natural state. Others, I crafted with to sell. Luffa, which is a type of gourd, is dried and the outer skin removed before selling. Another free resource is to use trimmings from your berry or grape vines. Form them into wreaths or weave into trivets or baskets to sell. Lastly, a favorite thing I have sold is packaging surplus heirloom garden seeds that I won't need.
Your genuine joy and beautiful heart give so much life. Thank you for spreading positivity and light, touching other lives that you don't even realize when you upload. Blessings to you and your family.
Wow, she blew my mind! She has tons and tons of information on the subject and her willingness to share it all is what blew my mind. Many blessings to her and her family. What a little angel she is😇
I see one of the biggest mistake in people starting a homestead is starting off with animals. I would start off a garden. Especially a small garden. It won't overwhelmed you. If your animals are sick or die. You would be over stress. If things go wrong. Your can reset faster, your loss would be less. It's really hard to find buyers in the USA. That's why I moved to Vietnam to homestead. People need to do research on buyers before getting into homestead because you will have expenses like anything else. A lot of people believe homestead is that people can live off the land. It's not completely true. If you can eat chicken all year round. You need money for feed, medicine, electricity, water, salt, sugar, taxes and ect. I would be realistic in getting into homestead. It's going to be more business. Good luck everyone. Have fun with it.
I have literally only watched this one video of yours and I would call myself a fan. You blew me away with your energy and honesty and generosity. Thank-you for sharing. You are a jewel.
You gave me an idea of selling plant starts. I live in a trailer house in a court. This is the only thing that I can do here that the city doesn't have a coronary about. Thank you.
I just want you to know that you are a breath of fresh air for me... a wonderful inspiration that has led me in a great time of need. I'm 63 years old and conquering a few health battles... Endometrial Cancer, failed and painful back surgery and now Heart failure with a pacemaker defibrillator implant just put in this past Wednesday! I Follow Off Grid with Doug and Stacy religiously and that's how I found you. I went to their Homestead Life Conference in Hannibal and it was awesome! I know they would love you to come next year and speak and so would I... and I would love meeting you in person. You have touched my life in ways you will never know and now you're stuck with me as a follower. Please keep doing what you do and especially your Devotionals!!!
I have never in my life subscribed so fast, this was literally the most to-the-point, well done, informative video I've found on a single topic. Can't wait to binge this channel!!!
This is by far THE MOST in-depth video (or even article) I have seen on ways to make money on your small farm or homestead. Absolutely fabulous, well thought out information on the possible profits and costs of multiple ways one can make money raising different types of animals, produce, and even plants. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experiences.
Now this is how to run a home business :) Learning to see possibilities is often the hardest step for a lot of people. This is a perfect example of the right thinking.
I sell worms and worm and chicken poop....I make good money selling to the local coop. I have a ton of chickens and I sell them as meat, too. People love fresh organically fed chicken.
This is all great advice, even if you don’t have a homestead. We have a single income household in a city with 3 cats and a dog. We bought our house a year ago and have had to do a lot of work on the property because of poor work done by years of previous homeowners. In order to cover our debts, medical bills, pets’ needs, household maintenance, renovations, and build emergency savings and luxury savings accounts, we have to follow a fairly strict budget and be very resourceful. For example, we had a retaining wall completely wash out and bought our retaining wall materials on sale while a rebate was offered and are doing all the labor ourselves with a little help from some friends. We redesigned the retaining wall to create more functional use of that corner of the property, as it had been completely useless before. Now it will have an access to the back yard for equipment and a level space to build a shed in the future. As a result, we hope to get a much cheaper quote in removing the half dead ash tree from the back yard that’s hanging over the house, now that we can get equipment back there and winter is approaching. Removing the tree will not only remove a hazard from our property, but will also allow sunlight to a spot in our yard that would make a perfect second vegetable garden bed. It all boils down to being resourceful, prioritizing, and avoid frivolous spending.
I really like how easy you are to watch and listen to. You're sincere, concise, descriptive (but not too much), you have a pleasant voice and face but you command a presence that doesn't make me sleepy. You provide good information. I'm glad I found your channel.
This is one of the better vids on homesteading, that I've found, to offer advice on how to manage your homestead, instead of wasting time, money, and effort.
I believe that there is another way to view a small farm. You see , the actual bottom line is , you have to have some place to live. I have a younger brother and he has chosen to live in a senior's apartment. His monthly costs are much more than mine. Of course he has no lawn to mow and things like that. He also has a designated parking space for his car. He tells me that he can be fined if his car is not within the required distance from each side of his parking space. In other words, he can not be too close to someone else's parking space. Me ? I won't put up with that kind of regimentation.! That is what he has for his $1,500.00 per month. And he is satisfied with it. I on the other hand , live on a small 6.5 acre farm. At least I call it a farm. My basic living costs are about $700.00 a month , I can park anywhere I want to because there are no lines for me. Plus I have a three car garage and I can park anywhere within my garage. Oh , there is no roof over my brother's parking space. The bottom line is , whether I make any income from my small farm or not , I still require a place to shelter my body and a place to lay my head at night . So , I think that it may as well be here on my small farm . Here , I then have the opportunity to provide myself with better food . Any income that I may make by selling my excess is a bonus.
Yeah, I flat out can't stand to be controlled at all. The next time you spit out or pee on your farm's ground, think about how you don't have the "Bodily Fluids Police" watching you - waiting and ready to report you to Management for lewd behavior!😋 I couldn't live in another apartment or condo ever again...I LOVE MY FREEDOM way more than convenience. PEACE!
You make some good points but also keep in mind that many people who lived in cities don’t want to live without the conveniences offered. Or if they are still working their chosen career may not be available in farm country.
another great video :) my mom passed but she used to make a couple crafting things that sold rather well. figured id share them with you.. one she would make decorative fans from wallpaper i think it was and lace and floral arrangements. she would make them in 3 piece sets so people would get a big fan, med fan, and a small fan or 2 small ones. she would use a hot glue gun to attack the lace and floral arrangements. another thing she would do is making hat stands from 2 wooden hearts and a dowel rod between them. then she would buy like small wicker hats and decorate those with flowers and lace and whatnot and those hats used to sell rather nice. wanted to share with you since you take the liberty to share with everyone else ;) she said those clown masks used to sell rather well also and you could buy them cheap plain. then she had paint and stuff she would use for them and ribbon type material to deco them. then etching made some rather nice stuff she could sell reasonable :) best of luck to you with these ideas.
Sell your flowers, too. Sun flowers and zinnias are popular and could rake in some serious cash. Sun flowers, in particular are great for harvesting the seeds. I toss my dried heads of mammoths to my chickens and they love to peck through them. Thank you for your awesome vid!
I planted LOTS of extra greens for chicken winter feed. That keeps egg production up and yolks deep orange. On market days I sold out of eggs. Also sold out all baked goods. People love home baked goodies!
Oh, my goodness. I am canning salsa this morning and am watching RUclips in the background. Thankfully, after uploading some of my favorite youtube channels, I had autoplay on. You came up and I just had to stop what I was doing to come and type this note. You are SO smart. Love what you are doing and the lifestyle you are living. At 55, I too am following my dreams of a small homestead. Wish I had started much earlier...but better late than never. Thanks for great content. Looking forward to getting to know you better through your channel!
Jeezz you are literally a OG Queen of the Garden Hustle! Such an informative and motivating video. Everyones binge watching Netflix and im here binge watching Jess :)
Kudos. This was one of the only videos about making money homesteading that actually talked about homesteading. Most of the videos with that in the title should've been called "how to make money with free time and a computer".
You’re such a joy, Jess! I’m so happy and grateful I came across your videos. We’ve been “homesteading” the last 4 years and I am realizing how scared I’ve been. You are shining so much light and giving encouragement...as well as valuable, easy to grasp information. Thank you!
You really need a show on HGTV... It's been forever since Home and GARDEN TV actually did anything with a garden setting... But for now, you're our #1 RUclipsr... Thanks for what you do!
Omg I'm not a farmer nor have a farm yet (my dream is to have one) but just watching your video warmed my heart and you've earned a new fan. Your energy and honesty together with the kind warmth that seems to emanate from you while you talk just captures the attention and heart of us viewers. I wish you and your family a happy healthy life !
I haven't discovered yet where you are from, but where ever it is I'm sure you are popular. You have an amazing farm and family and very refreshing to see someone young like me whos smart in knowing that fresh is best. A lot of people today are living such a fast life they're grab - n - going their food and 99% of the time it isnt good for them and you hsve great ideas in your videos for others to learn how to live like our ancestors did. Way to go!
We started our 2 raised beds this year by turning the soil with a shovel and a hoe. It was hard work but got the soil better this year then we did when we used a tiller last year. What you put in is what you get out. My tomatoes and corn are growing beautifully. I really enjoy your channel and look forward to learning more from you. Keep up the wonderful work and may you and yours be Blessed.
I know you did this video a while ago, but I just found it. No, actually, I was just led to it after praying for a way I can spend more time on my farm and still make enough income to cover costs. You are His messenger again today! I truly love your heart for this!
Another great income idea is to rent out a small cabin for vacation rentals. We have a 1000 square foot small home, but can't legally rent it, so are considering offering farming or crafting knowledge workshops in the future, or potentially investing into build a commercial kitchen that we can then rent out.
Jessica I know you're probably not going to see this but I just want to tell you that you are inspirational to me you are a role model I'm currently working as a maid and yearning for this lifestyle and just listening to you as I wash windows gives me so much hope
I seriously want to move to the country and start my own farm! You are so inspiring 😊 I also love the way you shoot these videos 🙌 changing scenery and angles makes them that much more interesting! It reminds me of when I was young and would watch gardening shows with my Nana ❤️
This is the first video I watched, I am forever grateful for presents of the sowards family in our life. Watching their videos is my treat in the middle of raising young babies and our own food. We’ve shared many cups of coffee in the wee hours of the morning. 💕
Wow, Jess, these are great ideas! You are like a homestead think tank all by yourself! I mostly save money by repurposing a lot of things and growing food, cooking from scratch and canning, drying, freezing. I need to stretch into thinking about not only saving, but also thinking of ways I want to make money as well. Thanks! ps, your face is so expressive!
I second the HGTV comment (or the Magnolia network). This is seriously the most valuable video I've found so far! I LOVE your channel and you have a great personality! Thank you so much for all the work you put into these! It helps so much!
Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe you said that you do missionary work..I believe that your giving heart and your generosity and genuine caring for other people is blessing to you..you know and believe that God has blessed you and will continue to provide for you and your family..thank you for all your blessings and knowledge that you share with the public..I have learned so much from you..
I am so glad this popped up as a recommendation! We recently moved from California to Southern Kentucky onto a 6-acre farm and have been brainstorming (to the point of headaches) on what to do with it. This gave us some great ideas as well as putting the brakes on a few others. Thank you!
Starter plants (spring and fall) and save your seeds. Start with those for minimal risks and big payoffs. Branch out to microgreens, then produce and others. It CAN be done! 6 acres....so jealous!
You are so good-- not just the knowledge, but a radiance and professionalism as a speaker. HGTV SHOULD GRAB YOU UP!!!!! Your natural smile makes me smile :) :) :)
I live in Tasmania Australia. I couldn’t believe there could be someone who has so successfully dealt with the same soil conditions I have here. WOW your daily work load must be incredible. Wish I knew 70 yrs ago what you know now. I love watching your videos as inspiration of what will be possible in the future for me. Loved your little fella asking about a milk bath for the goat. So cute!
Jess you done a wonderful job of explaining all the ins and out for folks that is wanting to get into homesteading. Awesome job done my friend! With all that you covered should help them out a lot. Thanks for being you and sharing. Have a great week!
This is by far the best video I have seen so far on being able to make a little income with a small homestead. I am a country girl who always wanted my own small farm even though we didn't have one growing up but family everyone around us did. Im still dreaming about my own homestead but until then I have put to use my urban backyard with a raised bed and container garden (made with free or reclaimed resources) and happily was finally able to get my own chickens. I was smart and just have 4 little ladies.
I'm speechless! You are a great teacher & speaker, that is so much information in 26 minutes. I must say I take my hat off & vow. I will keep this video to come back to it for information. THANK YOU beautiful & GOD bless you on all you do.
Enjoy your posts. You have a wealth of information. Just FYI: Texas Laws are strict when it comes to making food and selling it. Since Cottage Laws passed they are a little more lenient but I suggest anyone interested in selling food they have prepared, check first the local and State laws.
New follower. Love seeing common sense homesteading and not going into debt doing it. We are working on buying our land in the next 3 years and going off grid 😍😍😍😍
o maybe an even better idea there is a lady here in KS that has goats for hire he loads up her goats and u can pay her to bring them and have her graze her goats she brings a portable electric fence
You are so wise and farm-savvy. I am so grateful to you for creating and sharing this video. I am blown away by the amount of knowledge shared here; I actually took notes! Thank you again!
I love the ideas in this video. I would have never thought of making a few csa boxes. That is a fantastic idea and not just using it to put veggies/fruits in. It could have jams and such. Thank you for taking the time to gather this useful information and sharing it. Very helpful!
I saw this on a previous video of yours, but I must repeat it, why do you not have your own television show? Best channel on youtube, and I watch a lot of youtube.
I love this. We sell Wood since we have a very big Forest. Thats our main "Homestead" income. Other that Ben's Medical Leave from the Army. We are not ready to have animals for now.
I am 51 years old and I have a 5.5 Permaculture farm in Florida. I have my Permaculture design certificate. I found your depth of knowledge, the way in which you explain things and even the way you modulate your voice, fantastic! You aren't my kid and I am so proud of you! You are exactly what this country needs! Good job!
My new favorite RUclipsr right now. Absolutely beautiful family, farm and soul. This is my favorite video you have made. Please keep up these kinds of videos.
Don't forget to research your state laws especially selling hatching eggs you're supposed to be npip certified I found that one out when I was doing my own research on selling mine. But I do like your input thanks for putting more information out there
I have watched several of your videos and this one is sooo…. excellent that I had to make my first comment. You explain each topic in great detail. You are living the life I always wanted. You are so blessed. I would love to hear your singing. I could only hear the music which was great by the way. Thank you for being real and honest with your explanations. I thought I heard you mentioned having horses. Haven't seen them yet. And you mentioned five kids, I've only seen three so far. Keep your videos coming.
This was the first video that introduced me to Roots and Refuge. I have learned so much about gardening and farmlife. So glad to be a part of Jess and Miah's world. Wishing them all the best for the Big Move and their future endeavors.❤️🍅
You are so precious! As I listen to you, I'm reminded of the worthy woman described in Proverbs 31 ❤ The garden tilling biz is great, but also how about a garden planner service? Just a thought. That's what I need someone to help me plan & plant it. I'd love to do it myself like I used to but am not physically able anymore.
Wow what a compliment that is. It's been my prayer for a very long time to be that woman. And I HAVE thought about a garden planning service! Maybe one of these days I will get to that!
Our goal is to get to the point that our homestead is paying for itself, thank you for sharing some ideas for us to keep in mind as we start this journey of ours 💜
You can do it Bear Tree....Honestly, I would concentrate on the farm replacing the need to purchase food (that right there will recoup most costs), and then to make $$, the easiest way is to provide starter plants before each season, as well as saving your own seed to sell. Lettuce and tomato seeds sell by the MILLIONS every spring...plus you can easily ship across the country.
I just found you!! Thank you for all your HONESTY!! I have enjoyed about 6 of your videos in one sitting. I have enjoyed your voice and your family. Your honest & OPEN approach to sharing gardening info both the good and the bad has helped me greatly. I thank you very much. Bless you for taking the time and these long journeys through the years to get to this point. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!! ♡♡ Amy
Ive been watching you since 2017 when you posted the Arched Trellis video and you are more adorable, knowledgeable and helpful than ever. I am so blessed to have found your channel and for the journey you have taken us all on . May you and yours continue to be Blessed beyond measure. Hugs from Texas
I love the way your mind works! There’s always a side hustle to keep it moving. I’m excited to dig into more of your channel and put some of your inspirations to work here on my own property. Thanks!
Yes, I live in a neighborhood and I always look on next door before buying. For my garden I got garden fencing, fencing stakes, wood, plants. I have saved so much! Chances someone is more than happy to give you their leftovers ;)
Hi! New sub. Wanted you to know that YOU (the farmer, grower) are as important in direct selling than any other side hustle plan. What your viewers see is proof visually that you ARE what you claim. Organized, clean and enthusiastic. THAT INSPIRES CONFIDENCE! ❤️. After visiting many farms I see there is a disconnect between what people want to achieve and what they are actually presenting and offering. Ugly, dangerous and uninviting farms are more common and the worst advertisement for you and your produce/service. Customers see YOU and your farm and will decide then and there about a long term relationship. Including your home and home kitchen if offering baked, jarred or dried goods. If you are not open to hearing public feed back from customers you may reconsider selling to the public.
So interesting, We grow a great garden with almost no Cost, we compost almost everything, and the plants love it so no plant food needed no soil needed to purchase, we share our ideas too, great video, Thanks!
I can’t express enough my gratitute for this video! In all the years I’ve been watching gardening/homestead videos, I’ve never wanted to repeatedly hit the like button, like I’ve wanted to the entire time watching this video. My goal this summer is to finally start my own small (in a city) homestead. This info was invaluable!!! Bless you!!!
We just purchased our little farm 2 months ago. I have some finishing work to do around here, and by next summer, I hope to be going with some chickens, ducks, and now quail! I’m looking into the town, to see if I get a property tax break for having a “farm”. That should help, being in Connecticut. I’m also SUPER interested in goats and highland cattle. Not much, but enough for me and some friends for meat, beef and milk. This video just got me so excited.
Wow! You've generously shared so much great information here. Thanks for doing such an excellent job explaining and suggesting ideas for making extra money :)
Omg I feel like you are my spirit animal!! Between the psycho research (which is me) and the amazing ideas that will keep my family happy year round!! Thank you soooo much for proving to me that my "crazy" plans and ideas are right!! I don't need to be rich, I just want us to be self sustainable!!! 😍😍
This woman is a wealth of knowledge period ....
she is Amish or a Honorary Amish girl !!!!
James Gabor I agree!
He’s a lucky man!
PERIOD
Why ellipses?
You're so informative. HGTV should grab you for a gardening/farm show. You're a wealth of knowledge and comfortable in front of the camera. I love watching you and seeing your farm animals and plants! You're name should be Mother Earth. Keep it up! Hey! @HGTV #HGTV I found a star!
Definitely
I was thinking the same thing!!!
Does HgTv even do any gardening shows anymore?
You said TV 😂
Yeah, the G of HGTV is not a thing any more...🤣 I think they make the ppl do outdoor landscaping just so they can act that the 2 mins of the show is their gardening end lol
Girl, for a young farmer, you are a fountain of information. You make it sound like homesteading is the way to live. I’m sure the work is hard and the hours are long, but with your positive attitude and tons of stored information, life would be enjoyable. Love your video!
That was one of the best overviews I think I've heard about a homestead. GREAT JOB!
I completely agree
I don't mean to be harsh: is anyone comfortable with that tattoo? on a woman? Have people gone insane, or is it me?
@@seanleith5312 wow!! Judge much?? I am absolutely NOT offended by it
@@seanleith5312 What tattoo?
@@seanleith5312 YEP i kinda love it and would have liked to see it in full.
I'm not even interested in becoming a home steader and yet I can't stop watching your videos! lol
Me either but I'm doing a lot with half an acre! :D
Saaaaaame!!! 🤣😍
You will soon
Now that’s hilarious and a huge compliment to her. I just found her.
Haha, same 😅
“Assess yourself as a consumer.” Good life advice.
Thank y'all so much! What are you are your hubby names? I appreciate you commenting and encouraging.
Roots and Refuge Farm we are James and Sara. So glad to have "met" you!
I really appreciate this comment, thank you for sharing. I hope you have enjoyed your place even through this crazy past year
This is super insightful. Thanks for sharing
I'd buy it.
I'd buy it too! You seem very well organized and thoughtful in your endeavors! A woman of true character I have found you!
Good on you!
I'd buy it too.
“Paid us in goats!” Hahaha that would be a dream come true. 🤣
Beautiful property Girl!
Great info! A lot of people don't realize if they reduce their expenses, then you don't need as much money to survive! Kudos to y'all for killin' it!
Thank you so much, I wish I could express what comments like this mean to me.
Wow, she blew my mind! She has tons and tons of information on the subject and her willingness to share it all is what blew my mind. Many blessings to her and her family. What a little angel she is😇
I totally agree!
Blessings to her & her family.
Hint: Raw eggs mixed with cooked white rice makes delicious golden fried rice! Add whatever extra ingredients you like.
I was going to leave a comment...but the goat ate my notes. Just "kidding", great job!
“My goat ate my notes!” - the new “My dog ate my homework!”
Thank you.
You make a dime a dozen people think that you owe them a nickel .
An Introductory MBA in small scale farming! Well done! 😁👍🏻
I just found her too and was thinking exact same thing!! And I did exactly same! ,🦋💜🙏🤗
You are so welcome! It is my great joy!
Now this is how to run a home business :)
Learning to see possibilities is often the hardest step for a lot of people. This is a perfect example of the right thinking.
I sell worms and worm and chicken poop....I make good money selling to the local coop. I have a ton of chickens and I sell them as meat, too. People love fresh organically fed chicken.
I am starting a mealworm farm because my chickens love them but they are getting quite expensive. Any suggestions?
@microleafVJ And It takes also a lot of money :(
Rebel the XApologist I may never pee inside again.
I just love you ! 🐦🌱🌸
another great video :) my mom passed but she used to make a couple crafting things that sold rather well. figured id share them with you.. one she would make decorative fans from wallpaper i think it was and lace and floral arrangements. she would make them in 3 piece sets so people would get a big fan, med fan, and a small fan or 2 small ones. she would use a hot glue gun to attack the lace and floral arrangements. another thing she would do is making hat stands from 2 wooden hearts and a dowel rod between them. then she would buy like small wicker hats and decorate those with flowers and lace and whatnot and those hats used to sell rather nice. wanted to share with you since you take the liberty to share with everyone else ;) she said those clown masks used to sell rather well also and you could buy them cheap plain. then she had paint and stuff she would use for them and ribbon type material to deco them. then etching made some rather nice stuff she could sell reasonable :) best of luck to you with these ideas.
Sell your flowers, too. Sun flowers and zinnias are popular and could rake in some serious cash. Sun flowers, in particular are great for harvesting the seeds. I toss my dried heads of mammoths to my chickens and they love to peck through them. Thank you for your awesome vid!
You can also feed sunflowers to other farm animals, like goats.
They're also great for sprouting as fodder.
@@Johnnnnnnayyy But surely if you sell your produce you would have to register for taxes that would reduce your profit.
Got my mammoths in late due to weather flowering now, hope they make seed - only three came up.
You're the best!
This kind of lifestyle makes me feel like I’d be at peace if I could live it
Thank you!
Thank you Kristine!
Wow! Lots of info! When my hens slowed down( in non-winter weather) laying, I would give them collard greens! Always got them going again. :)
Our babysitter used to give us collard greens when we were constipated, maybe that was their problem lol.
Hallelujah! Someone who is realistic about the economics of small scale farming.
OMG, "Doelings and Bucklings"!!! THAT is the cutest thing I've ever heard!
Thank you!
THIS is how these videos should be made, instead of talking 30 mins and conveying zero facts/solid pieces of information.
I seriously want to move to the country and start my own farm! You are so inspiring 😊
I also love the way you shoot these videos 🙌 changing scenery and angles makes them that much more interesting! It reminds me of when I was young and would watch gardening shows with my Nana ❤️
Do it! We need more small farms we need more young farmers!
Thank you Cynthia!!
I second the HGTV comment (or the Magnolia network). This is seriously the most valuable video I've found so far! I LOVE your channel and you have a great personality! Thank you so much for all the work you put into these! It helps so much!
Wow, thank you!
I learned more from this video today than I did in most of my business lectures. Thank you so much for sharing.
So cute!
You are not only beautiful and fun to watch but also very smart and knowledgeable
Jess you done a wonderful job of explaining all the ins and out for folks that is wanting to get into homesteading. Awesome job done my friend! With all that you covered should help them out a lot. Thanks for being you and sharing. Have a great week!
Thank yall! You are such an encouragement to me!
That bit about the eggs. That would make Ron Swanson so proud. 👨🏻🍳❤️
New follower. Love seeing common sense homesteading and not going into debt doing it. We are working on buying our land in the next 3 years and going off grid 😍😍😍😍
I am bingeing the heck out of your channel right now.
I'm in the process of purchasing my land and building my homestead. You gave me hope that my desire and goals are doable !
o maybe an even better idea there is a lady here in KS that has goats for hire he loads up her goats and u can pay her to bring them and have her graze her goats she brings a portable electric fence
This woman is an old soul with centuries of knowledge and wisdom she has desire and passion this woman is what I would call a golden nugget.
Wow thank you!
You are so wise and farm-savvy. I am so grateful to you for creating and sharing this video. I am blown away by the amount of knowledge shared here; I actually took notes! Thank you again!
Very informative, thank you for sharing, my husband and I love your videos🙂🙏💖
I love the ideas in this video. I would have never thought of making a few csa boxes. That is a fantastic idea and not just using it to put veggies/fruits in. It could have jams and such. Thank you for taking the time to gather this useful information and sharing it. Very helpful!
I saw this on a previous video of yours, but I must repeat it, why do you not have your own television show? Best channel on youtube, and I watch a lot of youtube.
Thank you so much for that!
Good job!
Thank you kindly!
But I do like your input thanks for putting more information out there
i don't have a homestead, would love it, but here i am watching this very insightful video!! You have so much knowledge!! thanks for sharing
Terrific short course in critical thinking for homesteaders!
Thank you so much! There are some bits of singing here and there and in the more recent vlogs I’ve been showing more of the horses!
Im4 Him I agree ! I have no clue as to how , where and when to plant stuff !
You are one intelligent and practical woman.
So interesting, We grow a great garden with almost no Cost, we compost almost everything, and the plants love it so no plant food needed no soil needed to purchase, we share our ideas too, great video, Thanks!
Love your channel. I have been following you for quite a while 😊
I can’t express enough my gratitute for this video! In all the years I’ve been watching gardening/homestead videos, I’ve never wanted to repeatedly hit the like button, like I’ve wanted to the entire time watching this video. My goal this summer is to finally start my own small (in a city) homestead. This info was invaluable!!! Bless you!!!
Do you ever sleep? I can not for the life of me figure out how you accomplish all that you do.😁🤩🤩🤩🤩😇
Hahaha I go morning to night to be sure, but I do take ample time to rest!
Fantastic video full of incredible information! Remain grounded my friend and you will go far in your endeavors.
I like to come back to this video when I am making new decisions for the homestead
Wow! You've generously shared so much great information here. Thanks for doing such an excellent job explaining and suggesting ideas for making extra money :)
hands down... best... most insightful video on this subject I have ever seen.
Your videos have been THE MOST HELPFUL that I've watched on RUclips. Thank you!
