In my opinion , it is the economy that is killing these treasured heritage , rent , debt , cost of living etc had been skyrocketed. Hence millennials may find these kind of job or the responsibility of continuing those culture / heritage not so feasible. I do need to give credit for those who are willing to continue and preserve these treasures. Feel free to criticize me and we'll have a healthy debate here
old chinese people: you must study hard and find a well paying job with future also old chinese people: NOOO WHY ARENT YOU CONTINUING THE HERITAGE AND TRADITION
I feel that old people require roasted beans and in the past, they wanted an affordable cup of coffee so they did this business. So now, millennials look towards better coffee and want higher quality. This industry won't disappear its just evolving into a more complex and higher-quality industry.

Even the hawker food also changing so much...........last time, I was back, so hard to find good duck rice, or even cai tao kueh, why everywhere Mala, Korean or Japanese food one? Maybe should learn how the Italians retain their foods. Can change and reinvent, but must keep the original version also. Look at how Starbucks failed in Italy? Some other Chinese language? It is an ambition of mine to one day work and live for a while in Singapore, and I would love to learn at least some of the local languages. 😊
Roasting in those conditions would be extremely tough. Hot, humid and smoky is a roasters worst nightmare. Not a fan of the coffee and technique, but these guys are pretty tough to work in conditions like this. The average person would spin out and crash after a few roast.

For your info, Singapore was once a province of Malaysia. Most of their culture are from Malaysia, they became independent but Nasi Lemak, Kopi-O, chicken rice, cendol and all their delicious food are also found in Malaysia lol. And all those food in Malaysia are definitely better than those in Singapore!
We were part of Malaysia for only less than 2 years, are you sure ALL our foods originate from there? Your statement on Malaysian food being better is not valid ! It all depends on personal liking!
how the person make and taste will differentiate it from other.. its personal taste.. when it doesn't say the origin, its doesn't mean that it is not important.. might be they forgot to tell.. and the video maker might not emphasize on that particular.. they only want to emphasize on how important to retain the cultural and heritage by the young people.. because they will be older, and someone must herit it..before its gone by age..

Anyway it's probably a Singaporean owned channel and you can see this sham trend across many Facebook & RUclips food topics where they make these false claims saying they created this, originates from Singapore and what not. Hence millennials may find these kind of job or the responsibility of continuing those culture / heritage not so feasible. I do need to give credit for those who are willing to continue and preserve these treasures. Feel free to criticize me and we'll have a healthy debate here

actually if you increase the salary for this job, and improve the prospect, there may be more 'youngsters' in the profession
We have industrial coffee roasting machines that aren't as laborious. Young ppl would much rather use them

@@veronham61 pls la, Singapore dont even grow the coffee trees back then, only they self proclaim they're the first, in fact this is very hard to trace back. Roasting coffee with sugar and butter not only in Singapore, let's talk about white coffee they also did so long time ago.

very nice coffee review. looks like you have a good relation in the coffee industry so you can make video like this.
Starbucks?
walao,Malaysia also have la. Say like only Singapore have
Please remember Malaysia also got
Yes, it was created by a coffee shop owner in Singapore in 1929, and then became popular in other states of Malaya.
Coffee from robusta beans is better than Starbucks arabica coffee. Is that just me who realised it ?
They say don’t trust the internet too much. Now I believe it. Editor can u tell me the difference between Malaysia kopi and Singapore kopi? This is a great channel but pls do more research. Don’t just trust whatever the uncles hv said. U are responsible if the Info is incorrect.
What u expect? Singaporeans.....they love to claim all things. Chicken rice, bah kut teh, kopitiam, cendol, and now coffee?

It must smell heavenly in there. Traditional Asian coffee is the best hands down. I hope Singapore will continue this tradition. Western style coffees like Italian are just too bitter and not tasty.
Not uniquely made in Singapore, Malaysia history of making coffee is even longer
在新加坡的两年
love the traditioanl way of making but i really think their grandchildren should buy modern coffee roaster machine for these old men....
Hope he can has a chance to visit Malaysia. To clarify his statement
Only sg. Pui. What a looney
But how do we encourage millennials to support them rather then spending $5-7 bucks on a Starbucks coffee ?
老板,因为你太刻薄了是吗?
Singapore guy : Only Singapore provide this kind of coffee
Whole Malaysia : Am I a joke to you
That young buck only 48 yrs old
Drinking coffee with sugar is a sin
The salary quite low man....
Only Singapore has this unique way of roasting or making this type of coffee??? What a bunch of liars! I was enjoying this channel until this episode. Please don't insult the intelligence of your viewers by spewing lies. Singapore is not the centre of the world certainly not South East Asia so stop making claims that everything under the sun is unique to Singapore. Its an insult to your neighbours and a black mark on your other achievements!
It's not the channel's fault it's the uncles words not theirs
Either the channel is ignorant or they don't bother to verify claims on their own content. Anyway it's probably a Singaporean owned channel and you can see this sham trend across many Facebook & RUclips food topics where they make these false claims saying they created this, originates from Singapore and what not. Its all about making tourist dollars but hop on over to Malaysia or Indonesia you will find the same food where it is tastier and 3 times cheaper!
