💜 A total pro in his field (and still working now!) who loves his family ( he even talks about his loved ones on set 💕). I love/have much respect for him.
Truly one of the greats with so many brilliant roles on his CV. Educating Rita is his best IMHO. Caine's longevity is all the more obvious when you realise many of those interviewing him are no longer with us.
And although he never talks about it, it’s a fact Michael Caine like anyone his age then, did his National Service. In the UK and served his country in the British Army in the Korean War, specifically in West Germany and Korea. And almost died in combat. This military period dominated his life from 1952 to 1954. But I know now, When i see how he holds a rifle in a scene in Get Carter I realise why he’s so comfortable and experienced with it. He certainly knows firearms.
I have got movie DVDS of Michael Caine with Shirley MacLaine in Gambit and in Funeral In Berlin with Robert Duval Anthony Quayle Donald Sutherland Donald Pleasance Judy Geeson and Larry Hagmen in The Eagle Has Landed with John Vernon in The Black Windmill with Pierce Brosnan in The Fourth Protical with Robert Shaw Edward Fox Christopher Plummer Ralph Richardson Laurence Oliver Trevor Howard Barry Foster Susannah York Ian McShane and Curt Jurgens as a German Officer in The Battle Of Britain I am dedicating these movie DVDS to my old school friends who are both sisters as I hope to see them both again very soon to Chris and Hester from Billyxxxxx
How long do actors have? Well he had forever as an actor. I think too ,his film Get Carter is one of the best films I’ve ever watched. Michael Caine produced that film if I recall , not only starred in it. And the film broke thru a whole new kind of movie about villains violence and crime. apparently it was shocking at the time. But if there was no Get Carter there would have been no Reservoir Dogs. The intro music to Get Carter is as cool af too.
The British wealth tax they are discussing was actually really unfair. And at this time a very punitive Inheritance Tax came in and between 1945 and 1965 this resulted in the demolition of of so many important historical British mansions. Demolished because the sons who inherited these huge properties couldn’t pay the Death Duties. A way of getting out of it was demolishing the mansion if it failed to sell. . So they did, 100’s of them. Even more so in Scotland. There was no such thing as English Heritage or any protective body to stop the demolitions. It has been called a ‘cultural tragedy’.
He did eventually up sticks and relocate to several other locations - the Labor Government of the early 1970's had policies that were hugely punitive to those on high incomes.
His accent in 'Zulu' wasn't 'cut glass'. an English upper class young officer of the 1870s would not have spoken with a very different intonation and articulation..
What a shame he displays a quintessential inferiority complex whenever he talks of UK actors who speak with an educated and cultured accent. He never compliments say Leo Genn or George Sanders or James Mason. He can only describe them as Posh gits ,are some such. Pity, after all, not all are snobs.
So sad that Michael has retired but I'm glad I stumbled on this video. He's such a natural storyteller and charming man.
Sir Michael is a great interviewee and even a greater man.
Caine is a very down to earth actor extremely humble he's just turned 90 this year.
An extremely charming man.

Fan of Michael Caine, but his gleeful description of destroying iconic cars I couldn’t approve of 😧
good 50min documentary.
He looks a little like King Edward VIII here. He could have played him.
I'm a fan of Michael Caine 'but I'm surprised to hear him say he despises cars ' why ? how odd.

And you don’t do it with the broken voice when he becomes emotional

Look at that gargoyle his hand is leaning on at the very beginning. I think it somewhat funny.
He did eventually up sticks and relocate to several other locations - the Labor Government of the early 1970's had policies that were hugely punitive to those on high incomes.
The top rate approached 90%, why would you bother working?
I didn't know that he kind of arranged the Italian Job
Let's talk eye to eye ay?hi
