  • It is time for the tiny Dendrobium seedlings to be repotted into fresh medium. They actually turned out so cute that I really like them even if not in bloom :D
    ▼▼▼More info bellow!▼▼▼
    So the Dendrobiums I am repotting today are the jenkinsii x aggregatum, the tetragonum var. giganteum and the speciosum. They are all seedlings or younh orchids so I will have quite a lot of waiting ahead of me, but I think they look pretty enough to make it all worth it.
    I am choosing clay pots and medium as always and it will be fun to watch them as they grow :) In case you missed the haul video here it is • Unboxing birthday Orch...
    On a side note I am suffering a big loss due to fusarium wilt disease. The problem is I am discovering many very healthy looking orchids infected as well and this makes me have a different course of action. I will stop throwing away my orchids unless they are on their death bed. What consequence will that have? we shall see.

    I use the water hose outside with the strongest spray, right down into the rootball from the top. It makes the process of getting the old medium out, so much easier.

    The end made me really sad. A moment of silence for the ones that were taken by the Purple Ring of Death. Rest in peace, little orchids :(

    Congrats on your new orchids, it's always so funny to get new orchids. They look really good. I bought a batch from Orchidgarden in Poland, and I'm really happy with them: nice, healthy plants, good size on the flowering size orchids and good, thorough packing. I haven't bought from them for the last time.
    Btw.- I've lost quite a few this autumn, mostly tiny plants, seedlings aso, but I've learnt to see it in the most positive way: it makes room for more ;)

      Glad to hear you were happy with the order :D I made a second order as well as they just added some orchids I wanted for the longest time, they are mature this time :P and yes good way to look at it, more room for new ones :)

    Hi Ms. Orchid I have a dendrobium jensinki and I had it for about two or three months now, when I first got it they told me to keep it in the pot that it was shipped in for 30 days before transplanting so that’s what I did. And now I feel like I’m killing it. When I first unpacked it I took it out of the moss and planted it in potting soil for cactus then I noticed that it was getting yellow leaves so I figured I was overwatering and then I watched a video about someone who wrapped their orchid tightly in moss keep it moist and that seem to kill the roots. The the dead roots looked like little white hairs. Now I’ve got it back in potting soil for cactus with a lot of pearl lights and I’m keeping it in my bathroom and running the shower hot so that it makes a lot of humidity and water in the air for about 20 minutes a day. I don’t know if this is going to help or heard it I would just like some advice on what to do. As a sidenote the reason why I got this work it is because I had a beautiful one when I lived in Hawaii and I watered it regularly like once a week but I had it outside on my porch and along with the humidity and the rainy season then everything it bloomed year after year after year and I was just so in love with it. Now I live in Utah I can’t put it outside because of the different temperatures rising and falling 100° one day 60° the next day. I’m mostly into succulents but I really wanted to get this orchid and groom it to bloom it. I have pictures that I can send you if you want to see more please get back to me and let me know as soon as possible my orchids life depends on it!

    Hi, Orchid queen! Congratulations and thanks for sharing such a huge range of orchid care videos based on your personal experience and love for orchids.
    I recently had a crush on these lovely plants. I had got dendrobium and oncidium two months ago. They were not growing so I checked carefully and found that most of the roots were rotted and dessicated and even the media they were sticking to was kind of rotted and smelling. I removed those roots and potted them in new pine barks in new plastic pots (not transparent) with lots of holes. I have kept them indoor near northern window so give them fluorescent light during day time and I am trying to maintain temperature and humidity 20-25 degree and above 50-60% respectively. (witers are coming at my place (in India).
    Could you please give me any additional tips it should take for these plants.
    One thing I was wondering weather transparent pots are any better for growth of orchid roots apart from being able to see them.

      +MissOrchidGirl I know what it's like, Danny... I lost 72 Catts this summer to Black Rot Fungus;, all from one haul which was kept away from my collection and spread like wildfire within the confined area... Very, very sad seeing it spread right before my eyes while using virtually every product on the market to try and control it... Useless...!!!
      I can only wish you the best, Danny...

    Hi Danny your collection of orchid is lovely and your video are so helpful and teach so much specially for us the newbies, one question what is the media (pebbles) you use?. I know not all the pebbles are safe for the orchids, I have few that I have to repot but will love to try different media that may help my babies 😀.

    I love cycnoches so please do! Catasetums not as much. I'm sorry about the fusarium, I noticed some favourites like the cuculata, but yeah we can rebuild! I actually suspect something is wrong with my Nelly Isler be cause it is producing too many new growths, but most of my plants doing meh had a lot of root rot problems so I want to wait before I suspect anything.
    On a side note, last night I placed an order on a HAUL at Schwerter, second and biggest haul for me ever so I'm very excited. I plan it to be my "last" one because I will be left with no space whatsoever xD (but who will say no to a cheap orchid at Aldi for example? :P).
    I will list it just because, don't feel obligated to read
    - Monnierara Millenium Black Magic (they put them for sale yesterday, cheap young plants, I HAD to go for it)
    - Phal Bellina Ponkan x Coerulea (love phals, love fragrant orchids, love blue bellinas, so Im crossing fingers)
    - Renanthera monachica (hope I can bloom it)
    - Cycnodes Wine delight
    - Cycnodes Jumbo Puff "Taiyoung N1)
    - Dpts Purple Martin (since I cant have a violacea blue norton this is a good substitute)
    - Brassavola Little Stars (thanks to you I wanted a Brassavola, yesterday they put on sale an AM/AOS cultivar of the Nodosa, but I wanted a mounted orchid so I got this one haha)
    - Paphinia posadarum (was on sale, and I love the pendant flowers, I think you would love this one)
    - Hutleya meleagris (suuuuuper discounted and its fragrant and rare, so I had make the shipping worthwhile :3)
    - Polystachya maculata (also super discounted)
    - Howeara Lava Burst in bloom (my mom wanted an small sized orchid)
    If I manage to rebloom all this plus what I already have I think I will have a decent collection for a room only space :D Sorry again for the unwanted info, I just wanna tell the world :D :D

    Try to use small baskets, one or two inches bigger than orchid so it's better for root growing. Orchids doesn' t like space on the basket.

    Wow, Dany, sorry for your loss... So many!
    Good news: about Dendrobium speciosum blooming size I've found this (Less than 15 years):
    An 80mm size is about 3 years old and about 4-5 years from blooming
    Our 100mm advanced size is about 3-4 years out of the bottle and about 2-3 years from blooming.

    I enjoy your repotting videos. Do your cattleya roots stay alive longer when left in seramis and not disturbed?

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  7 лет назад

      Hi, not really they stay alive just like with bark, but if I disturb them or damage them slightly they do tend to die off no matter the potting medium :)

    Nicely re-potted. They look so beautiful after repotting in seramic. By the way I ordered a big bag of seramis from Germany which is coming in three weeks time . did you re pot your paphs and bulbophylums on seramis too?

      Hi, yes I have, everything except the vanilla is in seramis :) I can tell you that my vandas didn't like it, also pleiones weren't happy with it, so those are the 2 types of orchids that didn;t do well in leca and seramis, but all the others are doing well :)

  • @alinapasc861
    @alinapasc861 7 лет назад

    Dani, ajuta-ma te rog. :) Am primit un denbrobium nobile (inflorit), frumos acum 2 saptamani, l-am replantat in seramis (de pe net) si un soi de leca foarte mic cumparat de la dedeman, intr-un ghiveci de lut (ars ca nears nu gasit), radacinile sunt superbe. I-au picat florile (ma asteptam). Are in prezent inca doua tije micute in crestere (si m-am decis sa il mai tin la cald poate mai creste, e suficient timp de hidernare mai incolo). Sta in camera, pe pervaz, undeva pe la 20 grade sau mai mult.
    Intrebarea mea ar fi: nu-mi dau seama cat de des sa il ud (la suprafata se usuca foarte repede stratul) si mi-e teama sa nu il supraud si sa il omor. L-am udat la 2-3 zile, dar mi se pare ca e cam des. Insa daca nu il ud am remarcat ca se scofalceste o tija (cea mai veche, care e taiata). Ce crezi?

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  7 лет назад

      Buna Alina :) in primul rand, sigur e nobile? dendro nobile nu face tije, florile cresc de-a lungul bulbului. ok in legature cu seramis, poti insera o scobitoare lunga si cand nu esti sigura daca substratul este uscat, scoate scobitoarea si vezi daca este uda :) ghiveciul are vreo vopsea sau vreaun lac adaugat peste? daca da va retine mai multa umezeala inauntru deoarece nu este ventilat. Daca este poros se va usca destul de repejor.

    • @alinapasc861
      @alinapasc861 7 лет назад

      Multumesc din suflet pentru raspuns. M-am exprimat eu gresit, nu sunt tije florale (nu e dendrobium phalaenopsis cu siguranta), ci bulbi suta la suta. Dar sunt micuti, subtiri si in crestere, de asta le-am zis tije. Am incercat cu scobitoarea si e uda :(. Ghiveciul are lac pe exterior , ca simple nu am gasit. De asta te si intrebam, ca stiu ca nu se ventileaza.

    • @alinapasc861
      @alinapasc861 7 лет назад

      Si inca o intrebare si promit ca ma opresc: ai cumva habar de unde as putea cumpara din Ro vreun ghiveci de lut netratat pe exterior? Ca tot ce am gasit e pe exterior tratat cu lac/vopsea. La Ikea am vazut pe net ceva ce parea mai ok, dar nu sunt din Bucuresti si nu le-am vazut personal ca sa fiu sigura de calitate, pretul era cam mare, plus ca nu stiu cum rezista la transport (e distanta ceva pana la mine).
      In alta ordine de idei, multumesc pentru ca existi :) si ca gratie tie si postarilor tale am descoperit ca totusi, nu trebuie sa ai un doctorat in horticultura ca sa cresti orhidee, ci doar sa respecti niste reguli de bun simt (si sa nu le inneci in apa in principal).
      Si ma rog din suflet sa castigi lupta cu fusariumul, pentru ca esti mai puternica ca el. Si pentru ca cei buni castiga intotdeauna la final :P

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  7 лет назад

      Buna Alina, nu stiu sigur unde poti gasi, eu am vazut in hornbach dar super scumpe, la ikea sunt mai ieftine intr-adevar deci poti sa te uiti acolo, sigur sunt mai ieftine. Dar alta sursa nu stiu, poate Leroy merlin? de aici le cumpar in noua locatie si sunt ieftine, dar nu stiu in Romania. Ok atunci foloseste scobitoarea cand vrei sa sti daca ghiveciul e uscat, pana replantezi (ceea ce va fi curand, can florile sunt gata si noii bulbi incep sa cresc) poti sa te ghidezi dupa scobitoare. De asemeneapoti uda cu o cantitate mai mica, nu e nevoie sa scufunzi ghiveciul, un jet 2 la chiuveta, daca poti folosi apa de chiuveta, si e de ajuns :)
