Dear Ken, there is a great book ' The Brain That Changes Itself '. You can find the book in internet. If you might not move your limbs , you can surely control your breathing. Pranayama ( slow controlled breathing ) can help in many ways. Wish you improve daily, slowly and surely, in a peaceful manner.
I've been saying this for a long time. I'm 46 and have been lean/strong my whole life. I'm not a gym rat, not that I mind the gym. But I fast regularly and most days I'm snowboarding, bouldering, rock climbing, hiking, paddleboarding, mountain biking. Yeah, I do take care not to eat too much junk but for the most part staying lean is on autopilot just because of my lifestyle. Keep up the good work geting this message out there!
Love watching you guys, your tips for better health and your adventures. At 75, I like to follow a lot of your healthy habits making them work for my age. Don’t forget us 75 y.o. on your videos, thanks!
Completely spot on with the intermittent fasting…I am 53 and lean, and didn’t fast from sleep until noon for many years thinking it was a diet, I just wasn’t hungry in the mornings. Most often, I’d have some coffee, tea or water and go about my day, and eat sometime between 11am and 1pm. I just wasn’t hungry. If I eat in the morning now, it may be a banana for the potassium and a few calories.
This resonates with me so much. This is what it seems like how humans should utilize what we are capable of while being conscious of the experience. Fitness not out of vanity, but because its just so much better to function in every aspect of life with optimal an optimal body.
If you have a hole in your heart, then you subconsciously compensate or fill it with food or other things outside. Self-love, self-acceptance and, if necessary, therapy are the keys to being happy on all levels of being. Love from Germany.
If you want to get rid of those last few pounds, two or three weeks hiking through the mountains is a great option. Unlike most other forms of exercise it can be sustained for 12 hours a day, and the calorie burn in steep terrain is awesome. It's actually hard to keep the weight on when you tackle a long hike - so losing it is no problem. Of course it's wasted effort if you don't have a sustainable maintenance routine ready to go for when you get home, but while I was transitioning from obese to lean, backpacking played a useful role.
I like this video because it talks about being active without doing Hardcore workouts. Sometimes the body just needs to have fun. Thank you for sharing the insight guys.
LOVE intermittent fasting. I would like to add that for a woman it is definitely a different experience. Not to be done everyday, always. Instead maybe 1-2 weeks a month for when the menstrual cycle rolls around, time to nourish. When I forget this and intermittent fast a week outside of my cycle, I definitely notice a massive difference in my emotional stability. Something to ponder.
I agree with the fasting and I break fast with fruit. So cleansing and digests in two hrs. You are making me a more fit woman! New sub and thanks so much. ❤😁
love fasting!! I have a 6 hr eating window between noon and 6pm. 6 mile walk with my dogs 3 days a week, hiit exercises 10min.5 days a week and your stretching follow alongs most days. 😀
I have tried some fasting and maybe need to revisit that again.I actually don't eat right away anyway.I have a spiritual practice I do and some chores I do before eating and I usually eat light in the morning. I love camping and hiking and i do a lot of moving landscaping, doing tree work and working out, so I move a lot. I have recovered from shoulder surgery and had some leg issues and I am back at it. I had to do this gradually but I have made tons of progress. I lost a lot of weight since recovery, I hated not moving and being so limited by my injury. Now that I am recovered nearly 100% I plan to start to bike again. I went from 174 to my present 154. I am learner and stronger. You guy have great attitudes. I loved when I lived in Colorado. Thank for the inspiration today!
I like how these guys choose to be authentic about the work and trial-and-error that goes into what they do instead of just presenting a polished front.
Injuring my back sucked so much but the one benefit I got from it was that I built in more low intensity moving exercises like walking. Your channel is awesome cause youre just some guys loving movement and being outdoors, like that is actually relatable for me compared to going to the gym lifting weights. I thought I wasnt a sports person but I just didnt like the one type of it that everyone on the internet is doing. So thanks for showing another side of fitness.
Walking is massively important. Especially if it's the first thing you do when you wake up, with a glass of water. 👍 Staying supple is also very important. Having also suffered with a bad back for most of my life. Stretching and being able to pivot at your hips is a bit of a game changer. I also found cycling really helps.
One thing I did to lose weight without any weight training or cardio and even diet is going to therapy. All I did is I started therapy and I lost some weight. Maybe it’s just me but hopefully it will work for someone else.
I found that just taking some time for myself to learn to be happier helped a lot. That gave me the drive to start working out and taking care of myself more. So far, I've gone from 100 plus kg, down to about 77kg. Feeling great!
Motivated me to do that damn backpacking stuff in new zealand during my three months stay 2023 and reminded me to do another hike soon here in germany :D thanks guys
Loved ALL of this!! Thank you.. the camping/hiking part was beautiful! I had some deep thoughts watching this.. especially in regards to myself and how I interact with the world around me. I am so grateful to you for this!! 😌🙏🏽💖
Land and farm working is a good kind of workout and conditioning while staying sustainable. Mix it with some locomotion, mobility and yoga and there you have it
Your videos give me so much joy and inspiration!… these incredible nature adventures and outdoor play places illustrate the feelings of deep satisfaction that a movement centered lifestyle elicits! Gratitude for you both!!
Watched a few of your RUclips shorts and this was the first video. Lots of good nuggets here. Love this lifestyle with intermittent fasting, movement snacks, backpacking/hiking and cold water dips. Also see that you're wearing barefoot shoes, even for hiking. I started wearing them too...they seem like a game changer for foot and ankle strength and mobility. Subbed on here and IG
@@cooperpayne señor I found some Amanita Muscaria on my last hiking camp... you guys should drop to the southeast of Mexico for a natural primal test of experience
Just found your channel and after watching the backpacking portion of your video I subscribed and hit the like button WOOHOO!!! When I was in my teens I used to backpack in Yosemite National Park as often as I could. The back country is incredible and actually makes up 90% of the park. You’re at elevations of 6,000ft-9,000ft and you definitely feel it because your home is at around 100ft elevation lol. My buddy’s and I would go long trekking for 10 days, 15 days, 21 days and just love every minute of it. Fishing for trout in a lake that’s 8,500 ft elevation is so awesome that words can’t describe it. Get up before dawn so you can climb up a giant granite peak and watch the sun rise. Its rays shooting straight across Nevada and landing on your feet. You turn around to see those rays make their way across the granite peaks and shoot out over the central valley of California all the way to San Fransisco. You’re standing on one of the highest peaks in all of the Sierra Nevada Mts You can see into 2 states at the same time and they have two completely different weather patterns most days. Dry very low humidity air sliding across the vast openness of Nevada. Meanwhile the central valley of California at that time of year is covered with a thick moist layer of fog as far as the eye can see. If you were to drop down under the fog you would find that it’s hanging at about 200-300ft above the ground. Underneath it’s like a dull grey blanket just hanging there with light from the sun making the fog glow like a fluorescent light fixture. People start to get bouts of depression from not seeing the sky or sun for 30,40, even 60 days some year’s. Yet all they have to do is drive up into the foothills to about 3,000 ft elevation which puts them above the fog and into full sun and beautiful blue sky. Great memories even when the bear stole all our food one night lol. Mama bear and two cubs working as a team lol Cheers all
Really glad I found your videos, spiritually received. I'm doing the morning stretch regularly now and follow a lot of your tips. Introduced your video to my wife and she does some of your stretching too. We're both over 60 so thank you for keeping it simple and primal. 🙉 even practicing your floor rolls. My tip for wet shoes, put heated rocks from your camp fire in em for drying, works really well. 😉
Wonderful feeling sharing your outdoor adventure with you, loved it. Made me want to stay fit forever so that I can always go goof around out in the backcountry. I am inspired, thank you.
Never tried backpacking before, getting more into hiking though. This video is making me seriously consider trying out a backpacking trip soon. Your guys content is great, keep it up dudes
Thanks for the inspiration! I was doing IF, cold showers and such but then I got sick and I removed all stressors...I've gained a lot of weight, and am recovering from back problems. No backpacking yet, but it's my goal :)
I love this so much. I've been going through a very thought time lately and watching your videos is helping my emotions and attitude. I started today with the morning stretching but i want to mimic your vibes and more. Thank you for being part of this lifestyle and sharing it with the world.
This comment was originally posted over on Gym Free Athletes because I was really excited when I found out you guys have another channel, and everything just came pouring out of me in a moment of inspiration and catharsis. However, it really should be posted here on Strength Side as I feel this channel is continually handing me the tools I need to enable me to change for the better. Josh, I find such inspiration in your videos that I could never thank you enough. And not just your movement videos either. You had a video a while back about taking responsibility that really resonated with me, and that gave me the push I needed to face an uncomfortable but very necessary choice that I needed to make. I apologize in advance for the length of this comment, but it came from a truly grateful follower ❤️❤️: I am so, so, SO excited to find out you guys have your own channel!!!! I’ve been following Strength Side religiously (my husband may argue fanatically is a better word choice 😂) for around two years now, and I have made absolutely AMAZING gains in that time!! I always love when you guys are in on that channel (I loved the recent one where you all went camping. I genuinely laughed out loud at least a couple of times 🤣), so I immediately clicked as soon as a saw over there that you guys have your own channel! Trevor, you seem to explain things in a way that JUST MAKES SENSE for me, so I am beyond excited to explore what else you guys have!! (BTW, I’ve been doubling dipping for ages already! I’d have gotten rid of the couch by now if my husband would let me 😆). I’m out camping with my family right now, and while they’re in the trailer sleeping (it’s 10:30 pm for me), I just ran through this video twice, (once for each side 😉), using a soccer ball as my yoga block (hey, you use what you have!). Not bad for a 41 year old mother of two, who found herself weighing 250lbs (on a 5’1” frame 😫😱) following the birth of our second child three years ago. My body was completely wrecked back then. It was literally a struggle for me to take a basketful of laundry up and down the stairs, and I absolutely hated and resented this thing (my body) that I had to haul around with me everywhere I went. It made going anywhere and everywhere a struggle, especially when I had a baby to carry as well, so I found myself finding reasons to just not go anywhere unless I really had to go. It wasn’t healthy, and I knew I had to change for my sake, and the sake of my budding family. I’d been overweight my entire life and had struggled for years to get fit, but, like for so many, nothing ever worked. I wasn’t just heavy, I was completely out of alignment in what seemed to be every possible way. Nothing worked properly together, and I felt like I was fighting my body any time I tried to “work out”. However, I had been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome and had made a lot of changes to how I ate, and was finding myself with a lot more energy because of it. I FELT like moving my body for the first time in a long time, so I started dancing in the living room every night after my family went to bed. I put in my earbuds with my progressive rock/metal playlist, and just let my body move! Eventually I discovered RUclips, and specifically channels like Strength Side and other primal movement channels (I HAVE to shout out Lisa Chaves here. Her channel is super inspiring and she also has a way of explaining things that just works for me), and it was like I was home! THIS was the way my body wanted to move! THIS was how I was finally going to fix my body (seriously, it was a mess. My right calf was a good 5 inches wider around than my left). I also started trying to run again around the same time, but this time I ditched the shoes with all the arch support that I realized were only reinforcing my poor movement patterns, and bought myself a pair of water shoes for running on the treadmill (they’re basically the same as the more expensive barefoot shoes since they’re zero drop with wide toe boxes and they’re super flexible, but they’re about a third of the cost of ‘barefoot’ shoes, and you can also, obviously, wear them in the water if you happen to find yourself, for instance, in a river with your kids earlier today 😁). The movements I’ve learned from Josh and you guys, combined with barefoot running and taking control of my eating, has completely changed my body and my mind. I’m so much more connected with my body now, and every day I’m grateful for what it can do for me, instead of being resentful that it’s attached to me. I’ve lost 75 lbs so far, but, more importantly, I’ve gained my life back. I’ve got more confidence in myself now than I can ever remember having before. I like myself more now than I ever have before. I FORGIVE myself more now than I ever have before, and that has made an enormous difference in the relationship I have with my thoughts, and with food. I realized a while ago that, simply put, I was punishing myself with food. And I eventually realized that I was, when I really stripped it down, punishing myself for not being who I thought I should, and could, be. That thought came to me so clearly while I was listening to a self hypnosis audiobook for weight loss one day, and all of a sudden food lost its power over me. It was like a switch flicked in my brain somewhere, and I realized that I was the one with the power in the relationship between food and I. I started listening to my body instead of what the experts on eating were saying, and I fell into an eating pattern that really seemed to work for me. I just recently found out, in a Strength Side video, that I was using intermittent fasting; I just didn’t know it had a name! I have a lot of dietary restrictions now because of the IBS, but I don’t even mind because I feel so much better inside now! I am rather restricted in what I can eat now (I had to give up dairy since I found out I’m allergic to the protein in it, and I miss cheese SO MUCH!! Never let a vegan tell you their cheese is just as good as real cheese. It, unarguably, is not.), so if I want to have a treat of something I can safely eat now, I let myself have it without ANY guilt or negative thoughts toward myself. I am so sorry for turning your comment section into a diary entry, but I’ve been meaning to leave a comment like this over on Strength Side for a while now, I just never seemed to sit down and actually do it! Ahh, the simple joys of camping 😉. If you’ve made it this far with me, thank you for everything you’ve already done for me, and for all the amazing videos I know are in my future!! I wish I had a better way to thank you, but know you are at least guaranteed a like on each and every one of your videos from me! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I'm a hiker. I miss it. I'm in a new state w/o a car, still trying to find my footing (so2speak). I've never been backpacking. Looks digable minus the cold dips though.
Thank you for the information and the reminder! I always forget about certain times in my life, until I'm watching a video that reminds me of them. I had a period of time where I never ate after 2 pm and usually waited 1-3 hours after waking up to have anything. Not planned, just the way things went. Up super early (3:30 am - 4:30 am) didn't eat until around 6 or 6:30 am, if then. Every meal was served on a saucer, not a lunch plate, or in a cup, not a bowl. Always had at least a good nod to fresh and healthy fruit or veg. And, we'd eat the meals while doing the sitting sort of things, like watching a little Netflix. But when we were done eating, we got back up, cleaned the dishes and went to go do yard work, dance, ride an exercise bike, walk down to the pool and go swimming for a while, etc. No plan, just the way life worked out and it was great! Lost so much weight, with no dieting and not even thinking about losing weight. Just enjoying life. It's been very hard to get into a routine, for more than a day or two at a time, most of the time since then. Had to move, different circumstances ...But, I did get to spend a couple of weeks mostly by myself in 2020 wherein I had pretty much only things like beans, rice, spices, fruts, a few fresh veggies and some Dave's killer raisin bread. That was quite the treat. Oh, and ginger. Lots of ginger tea. And, that was another time of exercise just being part of the life, because, the place I was at had a lot of stairs and a dog to walk. I shall quit rambling now. I just wanted to contrast and compare truths from my life with what you are saying. And, try to drum it back into my own head.
Dudes, really enjoyed this vid, just back out into nature, fresh air sunshine, total disconnect from the rat race. Totally awesome, great camera work, perfect, wish I was out there to. Take care, fantastic work, looking forward to the next vid. Enjoy. Peace
Back packing and hiking literally gets you fit. I hiked two super long really steep hills like twice a day and I also did hiking spots with my fitness friend and I got fit again. When I went hiking and biking several days a fit I was in far better shape.
Oh no dude didn't you just get those Xeros pretty recently too?? I always love when you guys are on together. Your relationship and how you play and grow from each other is so joyful to watch.
This video is making me feel pumped. It's also encouraging to see that I'm not the only wild ape-man fascinated with movement and how to better connect and appreciate the body in all its functions. Thanks for that! :)
Love, love, love you guys! Thank you for making these videos, good vibes and inspiration. You keep me motivated and discovering new mobility within myself at 50!
IF, for most of my life, but I learnt the concept in 2014. Usually about midafternoon, but from noon to sunset or dusk. It is the natural way of eating. Love the cold water
I used to backpack a lot. If there was open water I always began my day rinsing off, even if there was ice. One time I jumped into what looked like icy shallow water. It was over my head. My first thought was, "I could die and no one would know where to find me!" It amazed me how warm I was when I got out. Fortunately, the current wasn't fast and I didn't end up under the ice. One's body is pumping to save your life. I loved beginning the day that way!
Very cool! In both the awesome and cold sense 😂 The experience looks so invigorating though. Makes me want to find a group of friends to go adventuring with! I hope the trip filled your hearts and souls with life! ❤
Loved this video! It was fun to watch y’all on a hike, and very nostalgic for me. My dad and I used to go on backpacking trips together every summer and I loved it! Haha, when I saw your shoes next to the fire I exclaimed out loud, “Oh no! They’re too close!” 😂 I have also burned socks and shoes by a campfire… it results in a very interesting hiking experience afterwards.
Yeah right, I am into the intermitted fasting and find it just mind over matter and mastery of the mind as most things are in breaking down preconceived limits as I am learning, think you can't and you can't be think you will and in time it may materialize, I am much older (60s) and working out in the park is a three to four day a week routine now, plus the morning exercises, has changed my life, I am down with most things but this kind of physical activity at the beginning of the video has given me pause in my mind, but the Wim Hof cold water immersion is a daily thing, I will try to exert myself in challenging ways that are just a little beyond my capability, but with baby step attempts and failures in time I am in hope of success, I will push myself, thank you guys for the inspiration, the rest is up to me.
Wow it's great to see results by working out to have the ability and discovering what the body actually needs to do. This is really motivated to getting stronger and healthier for a long time. 💪💪💪👊👍
I just have to say, I am SOO GLAD I found this channel, you guys are so freakin awesome!!! I love your workouts, your way of life, your fur baby (poncho) I think that’s what you said ( 🤞) thank you for the life advice and please PLEASE keep making more and more videos, I’m a beginner myself at working out and I struggle really hard to just get moving, that’s why I love your videos cause your workouts are not very crazy but they still get the job done
Yeah, out in the wild one can see whether one is really fit or just work-out fit. The wilderness has different challenges, usually every day the whole day, than civilization. I realized it for the first time when I was doing a wild camping, treeclimbing and canoeing trip in the Río Napo region of Ecuador back in 2017. Energy gets depleted quite fast under wilderness conditions. Plans sound nice in the warm apartment, but then you are out there and stuff begins to feel quite different. Cheers.
Good stuff! The video made me want to go out of my remote office (aka a chair and a table at home) and take a walk on this forest trail by the sea, which I'm doing right now!
Hey guys great to see u jump around like kids, be safe.I iust started interm fasting a week ago and I had so much energy even after I did my landscape maint. this morn and I will be 66 in a few weeks.
Intermittent-fasting is a total game changer! It wasn’t until I started doing it that I realized how expensive the digestive process is for our bodies and just giving that a test frees so much energy for focus + mental clarity. 🙏🏼💖🤩

Right at the part where Josh falls on his longboard, I took a sip of burning hot tea and it had a huge beard hair in it. Didn't know if I should stop laughing, spit the tea out , or get that hair first. So i kind of just giggle and drooled while choking on said beard hair. 10/10 Great video. It made me feel joyful and alive despite being sick. I had many laughs, memories of doing this stuff back home, and a reminder to make good friends

Started fasting then realized that i've never felt hunger thats when you know you need to change up. GOOD LUCK TO ALL!
Yess!! So important to distinguish between male and female bodies there
Interesting, i never thought about that before
Same!
As a woman I concur!
I like how this guy likes to be athletic more than being huge and unathletic
Yeah much better to not be big and jacked.
Super healthier also
:) 👏👏👏❤️🙏🙏
From what I can see, the only ones who want to get big and jacked are insecure.
@@VidzMisc any advice for someone who used to be thin and athletic but bulked and now regrets it and misses how thin and athletic he used to be :(
Love the vibe y’all have. Backpacking is dope - it’s the way I feel most like “myself.” You guys really know how to max the fun factor!
Intermittent fasting makes eating more enjoyable i noticed. Not only do I look forward to it more but I eat slower and more consciously.
definetely. I appreciate food more now
You'll also feel disgusted towards junk food and more satisfied by real nutrition.
I agree on this one man!
I agree with the fasting and I break fast with fruit. So cleansing and digests in two hrs. You are making me a more fit woman! New sub and thanks so much. ❤😁
I tend to scarf it down cause I'm so hungry but it definitely tastes extra flavorful
Love you guys. This is the kind of life I secretly love. Just finished practicing my trumpet. Going in the house to crawl around the floor.
love fasting!!
Stress will definitely make you hold on to weight, happy to hear that worked for you
I found that just taking some time for myself to learn to be happier helped a lot. That gave me the drive to start working out and taking care of myself more. So far, I've gone from 100 plus kg, down to about 77kg. Feeling great!
@@richardparker8211 Wow! That's amazing! Keep it up and stay focused. A little self-care goes a long way towards a happier, healthier life. Well done!
I quit my stressful job in March and have lost 40 lbs since then. Sounds dangerous but I look good 🤷🏾♀️
Great to see Boulder again. I lived right next to that building for 2 years when I went to university there. Thanks for the memory flashback.

You’re standing on one of the highest peaks in all of the Sierra Nevada Mts
You can see into 2 states at the same time and they have two completely different weather patterns most days.
Mama bear and two cubs working as a team lol
Cheers all
What can I say, dude, love your page! Your clips are motivating and the routines fit well into the day.

Looks like a lot of fun. It's awesome that you have such a good relationship with your brothers. Family is so important.
Thank you for being here
This comment was originally posted over on Gym Free Athletes because I was really excited when I found out you guys have another channel, and everything just came pouring out of me in a moment of inspiration and catharsis. I apologize in advance for the length of this comment, but it came from a truly grateful follower ❤️❤️:
I am so, so, SO excited to find out you guys have your own channel!!!!
This is my kinda life.....makes me feel rejuvenated, exciting and refreshing.

Loved it, Thanks guys! Makes me feel positive and happy to go backpacking soon. Love the silliness!!
I like the authentic approach you guys add to fitness with natural living

Cheers.
