Great video! Love these kind of tips. We bought the cineeye and its great for... .... some situations. It works great in the studio, great outside (in places like the woods or in small villages), usability is simple and features in the app are amazing. Where I mostly had big issues is on shoots in citys on exterior sets and on interior scenes were a lot of wifi devices are around. We shot for example in a cafe were the cineeye didn’t work at all. Connecting to the app can be a real pain and sometimes the image is very very bad and blocky even when you stand next to the camera with the cine eye attached. I think this is due to all the wifi signals from phones, stores and other emitting devices around. They constantly update the IOS app but until now we had no luck. If that will be more reliable in the future that concept could be a serious competitor to hollyland or swit which we use by the way. The advance is clear. Every client brings a screen. I told them once how it works and they used it on several shoots. So they came in, logged on the Cineeye and had an image. But if it’s not working you have 2 to 3 people screeming at your back which can be annoying 😉 long story short, it’s a great concept. Until it works better we use the swit flow 500 which is much more expensive but also really reliable.
I'm a big fan of the Accsoon, though I use it as a monitor for my client or stylist via na iPad , so I can't speak to pulling critical focus. It's has actually helped so much that it is now an essential tool in my kit. I had been eyeing more expensive options( Teradek $$$) but this a great value. It takes about 20 sec to establish a first link, so you have to remember to be patient , the battery lights are a bit hard to see in daylight, but you just have to cup your hand over it. I run this off a c200, then quickly move it to a Ronin passing through a ninja V. I've been dealing with them through Facebook and they have been very responsive and helpful. If you shoot with clients or have anyone else needing to monitor what's happening in the frame ( and it always helps to have a second set of eyes), don't hesitate to grab one.
I literally used the same hardware this weekend on set, i didn't use the exact same little pieces, but as far as the hardware and camera gear the exact same lol, works pretty well for indie production, the latency can be an issue but can also be dealt with.
So many reminders that we are now ready to rock and roll in this video. You NEVER want to rock and roll if you in fact are not ready. Measure twice, cut once goes double for your ability to RnR baby!
Nice setup Caleb. Would you be able to remotely record as well? For example, if I use this with my GH5s, would I use this setup for focus and monitoring and then have to switch to the Panasonic app to trigger the actual recording or does this app handle it?
CineEye works only in confined spaces with very little wifi activity. Once you take it to the street with a lot of wifi networks do not work properly. I try to troubleshoot for a long time and end return it to amazon. Be aware. Try it before take it to the field.
Very nice idea. Imagine an urgent call and you are talking with the phone attached to this follow focus rig setup. Ridiculous huh. You're gonna probably set it to airplane mode anyways.
I honestly didn't notice until I saw my own footage demoing the final project 😂 not an issue for me personally. Most of the latency is HDMI out of the camera which you will find on any monitor with these mirrorless cameras.
The Accsoon latency is intolerable for true follow focus work, especially with fast lenses creating narrow depth of field. It's fine for a youtuber who is mostly standing still, or similar situations. It also works great as a monitor for director/producer types, especially with full size tablets, up to 4 at a time can simultaneously connect! But for a 1st AD doing narrative or fast moving documentary work, the cheapest usable wireless is probably the Hollyland 300.
Hey man, great vid as always. The app for the transmitter is awesome, buy I live in NYC and the stability of the connection is awful. In the middle of Manhattan it won't even connect due to interference. I ended up sending it back and going with the Hollyland 400s. It also has a very good app, and while a bit more expensive, works flawlessly. But as all things, ymmv.
I love the Accsoon CineEye and it works great on my iPad but not as great on my Android phone (Pixel 3). I can get it to work about 20% of the time on Android and 100% of the time on the iPad.
Accsoon CineEye is not as great as it seems. It's not resistant to any interference and drops out a lot especially in dense urban areas or buildings. And both the transmitter and the wireless FF have quite a serious delay. But if you're just using this in your suburban home, should be fine :)
I use the GH5 with the Panasonic Image app and the lag is almost unnoticeable. I've seen expensive monitors (via HDMI) with more lag than this wireless connection. Plus, you're not shooting sports or racing cars, I find it ideal for narrative filmmaking...you know the blocking and camera movement in advance, and after a couple of takes, you don't need to look at the monitor anymore :P
@@dslrvideoshooter Not really, been using HDMI monitors for some time and this is not the way.. You got loads of delay on monitor + another on the follow focus..

Hi Caleb, great video and something I am just getting around to sorting out. The reason I ask is because I’m setting it up on a Ronin sc and will need to split the power from the Ronin to feed the focus motor.
Could you do an alternative Setup to this, where no Phone is needed, but instead a monitor? On set I always need my phone as a phone, even though it is handy to be able to use it as a wireless monitor.

Just about the same as using an HDMI monitor. These mirrorless cameras are awful when it comes to HDMI latency. The wireless setup doesn't really add much of a delay.
Yeah I’ve found the hdmi outs can very. Between my 3 cameras A7sii, GH5, and D850, the A7sii is the best almost real time, GH5 2nd but still usable, but d850 lag is so bad, its just too far into the past. I’ve tested the Z6 and found it’s even worst then the d850.
