From what I've heard from other long time builders, yes, wiring and supply pipes count toward your base part count. Another thing to note is that the power and resource points are a vertical cylinder so you can optimize the extraction by stacking your extractors and power generators. I usually build mine in towers of 3 or 4 tall.
Took me a few days but watched your 12 hour part series and higly enjoyed it. Something you might not know is if you use glass cubes, can place the solar panals and the batteries in them without having to use wires to connect them for power.
Solar panels are such a pain in the ass but i use both depending on location. Good thing about the panels is they dont need the sun on them they activate with day and night cycles so you can hide them on thr basement floor
you can get like, 100+ metal plating per purchase from the space station pilots really recommend you fill a storage container with them, helps a lot lol
Watching your vids has inspired me to build more in NMS. Its one of those things that I used to do constantly, and then just stopped for whatever reason. Its like rediscovering a band you forgot you loved. 😂 We got this new expedition that I am gonna have to dump my attention into, but I really wanna find a system to make into a stasis device factory.
I usually just make solar panels, with 2 batteries per 3 panels. Mostly cus I am too lazy to find a hotspot. I don't even consider it when picking a build site. Its all about the look of the spot. It really depends on what you are building. I don't make a lot of industrial bases, I just need my lights and teleporter to run. If you are making a huge mining operation, the electromagnetic is the way to go. Guarentees it runs 24/7. And the look of the location is less important, you can pick the spot based on the hotspots. Though its nuts how they buffed the biofuel reactor to run like 50 hours on a single gas-up. It used to be 20 minutes 😂.
I’ve really enjoyed following this series. We have about equal playtime and it’s incredible to see how different your gameplay is compared to mine. loving this game
I always find an electromagnetic hotspot for my proper bases, but I'm not against using solar panels to quickly get access to a specific resource at a base where that's the only thing I want or a temporary spot before my proper bases are set up.
for ferrite dust. Find a snowy planet with tons of those little to medium sized rocks. get in your starship and just start blasting. I get a full stack of 9999 in minutes
So um. If you didn't know, there are diminishing returns on extractors. Once you have more than 6, you start to lose materials. Personally, I find 4 more than enough for a once per day pick up of 10k resources regardless of class.
Everything you can construct counts as a base part for purposes of save file restrictions. Wiki says: "Each save has a limit of 402 bases including one's freighter base and planetary settlement, so 400 planetary bases. The game displays a generic "unsuitable location" error message once the limit has been reached. There is also a limit of 16,000 base objects per save and a 3,000 components upload limit per base. Bases which use more than 3,000 parts cannot be uploaded."
Using electronagnetic hotspots requires more work and a lot of less material. When i find one, i don't install the wires exposed, i do it underground digging holes every 50-80 units... Looks cleaner. If the electric hotspot is beyond 1000 u yeah can't use it.

Set up a parafinnium farm for your ferite dust needs. Really enjoying your vids

If you attach the solar panels and batteries inside of a ferrite room, you don't need to connect then together as the room does it for ya!
I usually use cuboid rooms
love the no-nonsense approach here. Toss a floor down, toss machines down, connect, done.

it does need to be a 3 star economy for jt to be more than 100 i think

16k cap on base parts per save file.
3k cap per base on uploading.

Day 6 of asking croc to make a stasis device farm
I never build mineral farms/mines without an EM hotspot nearby. Solar is too temperamental in NMS to feel consistently reliable for me.
